Ive watched both players thanks. I have seen Dubois raise his game in the playoffs and brings a physical element very few players can and are capable of.

Dubois had 27 goals 36 assists, 63 points in 73 games.
Vilardi had 23 goals 18 assists for 41 points in 63 games

In what world is Vilardi scoring more. Being healthy is also a skill and is important. I have no dog in this fight I am a sens fan I cant for the life of me understand how someone doesnt like this as a kings fan.
Mostly because it's not PLD for Vilardi straight up. They're also including Iafallo and Kupari. Two very good "tools" guys that every team needs to be successful.

It's not the most horrible trade ever made or anything, but it's very much the Kings removing depth and getting a mild upgrade while not really addressing their big issues.

For a sign and trade they need to stay compliant to sign Dubois, depending on how much he signs for/bonuses it's possible that we do.
His contract won't kick in until July 1, at that point it isn't our problem

Well Dubois is worth way more than Vilardi. So I dunno what to tell ya.

??? PLD = .86 ppg and GV = .65 ppg

Love Vilardi and hate to see him go, but....

Just truly amazing how much BS is posted here as a fact, thank you for pointing out the nonsense.

In the last hour we have seen

"Vilardi would have outscored PLD"
"Vilardi was a point-per-game player"

Was going to say maybe Vilardi is coming with an extension back? I have no idea why cap would be an issue here.
Is it cap, or number of contracts for the Jets? Cap should not be an issue, as you say. But...... who knows.

Vilardi alone has higher upside than PLD. He's a PPG player who is younger and can play wing or center. And he doesn't have a bad attitude like PLD.
I must’ve missed the season that he was a point per game player.

I love Gabe, and I’ve always backed the pic, and always supported him even when other things phones were upset and ready to give up.

The two players are one year apart. One has played six years in the league with three near 30 goal seasons already. The other one had his first bit of success last year, and then got injured.

I wish Filardi nothing but the best if the trade does happen, but in no way, is PLD a downgrade.

Winnipeg will enjoy Iafallo. The guy just competes even for a smaller stature guy. He wins bottles and frees up pucks. He has a bit of a carpet put on a team that can afford it. He will be a positive asset. I was really hoping that Turcotte would turn into a better version of Iafallo. Say a top six version of Iafallo.

I was really hoping it was a Lizotte shipped out and Kupari took his spot on the fourth line center. I like Kupari. He has its ups and downs, but is still young. We’ve been a bit blinded by Kempe over here and I think some fans are thinking he will truck the same way as Kempe but I just don’t see those tools. I see a bottom, six big bodied able skater they can put up some points.

I also really wanted elevator add Dillon to the trade

How is trading for a C not fixing one of their issues?
Do you honestly believe a team can win a SC with Phil Danault as a 2C in his age 31 season?

They have 34 contracts out of 50 right now so the contracta wouldnt matter . Maybe since we are giving up alot im hoping Winnipeg is retaining salary either on PLD or Helle coming back with him. Other then that im confused as f*** and have no other theories

We’re not retaining for 8 years on PLD. Hellebuyck maybe, but keep in mind what kind of value a $3m Vezina-caliber goalie has. Not saying it’s impossible (and we would certainly love to keep him), but we appear to be open for business.

I never said he wasn't. Though I don't think he's worth "way more", he's certainly better right now. In two years time? I'll be they're pretty close to similar.

I was only pointing out that it wasn't a 1:1 trade and that when you include the other assets, it's closer to a mild downgrade for the Kings as a team (not individual who is the most talented guy). Again, not terrible, just not some fantastic trade for them.

Credit to @Weezeric

“Under Article 50.5 of the 2013 NHL Collective Bargaining Agreement, any team that is trying to re-sign a player to a multi-year contract after December 1 needs to have “Payroll Room.” Basically, Payroll Room is the difference between the cap ceiling and the total amount of all Average Annual Values (“AAV”) and bonuses for the team’s one-way contract players, any deferred bonuses applicable during the current season, any buyout amounts, any outstanding offer sheets, any qualifying offers, or any money earned from two-way players while those players are playing in the NHL.[1]

So, if a team wants to re-sign a player, the difference between the team’s Payroll Room and the cap ceiling must exceed the amount of the AAV of the player’s contract. For those who keep up with NHL Free Agency, this isn’t a hard concept: you have to have cap space for the player to acquire him.

But in the world of extensions, it gets a bit trickier. In order to sign a player to an extension, the team needs enough of that difference to be able to afford his AAV this season. However, if the team does not have enough cap space from this difference, then the team may pull from any available cap space received from the expiration of the AAVs of its other players’ contracts at the end of the season so long as the cap space received would accommodate the player’s AAV after re-signing after the space is added to the existing difference in cap space.”

I don't think removing Iafallo and Vilardi and Kupari for PLD makes them a SC contender no. The trade may fix an "issue", but it wasn't the main issue that needed to be fixed.

If AK plays in place of Vilardi, and Moore stays healthy, and Clarke/Spence fill in better than Durzi (which I think they will), and coaching improves, and they either get a solid goalie or Copley turns out to be more than a 1-hit wonder, then I think they can do more than they did this year. Otherwise this trade doesn't really get them any closer.

Vilardi is like Newhook. It seems like we've been reading about their elite promise for years and years, but it hasn't panned out... yet?
