With Dubois coming in at $8 million, the Kings have $5 million in cap space with 11 F, 4 D and 1 G under contract.

That doesn't look like "plenty of room" to me. They can't actually fill out their roster even with league minimum players.

Dubois’s contract means the Kings won’t be signing a big name goaltender. That’s all. Again, parting with Vilardi and Iafallo more than pays for Dubois in cap.

But surely you’re seeing something no one in the Kings organization is seeing. Quick, submit your resume so you can actually get paid for this level of cap analysis.

Question for the Kings fans upset about Kupari’s inclusion: why? I don’t watch a ton of west coast hockey (past my bed time), and nothing about his stats stands out as good, or even particularly promising, but I assume you guys see something there.
Flashes of brilliance, all the tools a guy could ever want, and just a general question of “what if” because of his lack of opportunity further up the roster.

You still have to wonder why the Kings think this is such an imperative move for the franchise right now. It has “Shiny New Toy Syndrome” written all over it..

Obviously they’ve likely given up on Byfield ever playing C in the NHL, but still…. We could see Detroit or Nashville or other teams make the move, but that’s a lot of assets pushed in the wrong direction. And I’m a PLD fan. I think he can become a really good player consistently. He brings a lot to the table. It really is a head scratcher in many ways.

The Jets did about the best they could’ve hoped for.

He had flashes here and there, really helped with PK too. He got exposed at times during the playoffs though.

Kings fans on the main board are insufferable

I can do basic math to show that the Kings need to clear out more money to be cap compliant with a full roster. It has nothing to do with adding a big name goalie, it's that you literally cannot fill out 7 roster spots with $5 million in cap space.

Vilardi was expected to get between 3-3.5 on a bridge deal. So, those two are close to paying for PLD, but not quite there. Maybe that Vilardi contract is why he is on his way out. Kings have little to no money and will need to make more trades.

Vilardi is 1 year younger than PLD but only has 78 points in 152 NHL games vs 302 points in 434 NHL games for Dubois. In what universe is Vilardi a better player?
I cant believe people dont like this for L.A if its true lol. Dubois is a true difference maker, there are very few players that can impose their will on a game like he can when he is firing on all cylinders. The heavy game with the offense, defense and physicality is few and far between.
Because he isn't addressing any of the problems that kept them from advancing. Glad you guys think numbers on a sheet of paper matter.

Please tell me he skates better than Holmstrom did.
There’s a reason why he drew one of the most penalties in the league last year. Hard to move with good agility. And better hands. Vilardi is a magician around the net.

It gives them depth similar to Vegas at centre and it gives them a long term replacement for Kopitar (albeit obviously not as good).

Kupari is very good skater, good passer and good defender.

He was a little unlucky scoring goals last year, but has accurate and powerful shot.

I think if he made 8-10 more goals this year Kings would not trade him.

It doesn't really matter - that's the past. Who's the better player NOW? If they are both playing the same number of games last year Vilardi is outscoring PLD.

I don't care for this trade but let's be real, bottom 6 centers were atrocious last year and caused TM to roll only 3 lines at the first hint of adversity in any game, especially the playoffs. This makes Danault the 3C and Lizzo the 4C which is a legitimate improvement. Goal is still a huge problem, as well as team D, as well as physicality, no argument there
