What's lost in all this is how bad the kings are at drafting and how overrated in general prospects are since when all is said and done a team once heralded for their pool really has nothing to show for it and ended up getting their pieces via trade.
Danoult, Fiala, Gavrikov, PLD goalie, all spots 3 years ago expected too be filled internally.
They obviously don't feel Byfield will stick at C, Turrcottes a big ol bust, they traded a bunch of dmen that king hook said were better than Quinn Hughes, Cal was waived after signing for 5 million etc etc.
It simply goes to show drafting is all about quality, if you can draft your 1C, 1D, 1G close together and they are all high-end continuing to suck and draft high is pointless. Even if you hit on more elite pieces, the time it takes to develop wastes time of the previous drafted guys and eventually it costs to much to keep them all.
And really if you trade a 1st for an older guy that immediately steps in and produces, your still getting value from said draft pick.
The kings horded their prospects in Ontario and by the time many of them got the call their value substantially decreased.
Vegas took it even one step further and unless there's a generational or can't miss prospect available fans need to stop obsessing over magic beans.
