Well the whole world thinks because Laf isnt lighting it up yet after 80 NHL that he is a bust, so obviously everyone is going to say Rangers will need to add in Fox and 3 1sts as well.
I'd be so f***in happy if we could get Fox for next year's 1st overall, let alone Laf + multiple 1sts

I'd rather pick 3 and say no to laffreniere . Every french Canadians Habs get always turn Into a disaster. Already laffy should never have been in the NHL at 18.

French Canadian players playing in Montreal is a curse so no.
Bolded just isn't true. In fact there were so little lately it's hard to make an argument with so little data.
Danault turned out great. Drouin didn't work out. Then we never really had impact full french Canadiens since Ribeiro/Theodore (which both worked out) or potentially impactful players.
Very rarely if ever, has Timmins drafted a French Canadian in the first 2 rounds. Last I can remember was Fucale. Before that it was Leblanc in what 2008? Before that you had Carle and Latendresse which worked out ok too.

I feel like Lafreniere is getting discredited way to quickly sure he hasn't lived up to the Eichel/Matthews/Kane/Tavares/Stamkos tiers of 1st overall talents but I think its safe to say he is likely going to be a 70-90 pt winger for many years in the league kid just turned 20 like two months ago people need to chill.

From what I have seen of Wright he also isn't going to be one of those 1st overalls thats gonna come in a light up the league he is likely gonna be 20/20 player for his first couple of seasons.
It has been over a decade, so I understand how easy it might be to forget. But Stamkos had a rough start to his NHL career. You can blame Melrose for that, but he didn't tear up the league right off the bat.

1 out of very little, doesn't mean much.
Danault + Latendresse / Fucale + Leblanc + Carle

Drouin is a decent top 6 player, we just gave up a better player for him.

French Canadians have a huge history of success playing for the Canadiens and the NHL, we just haven't drafted much quality players out of the bunch in the recent years. OBV not as much as they have been 40 years from now, but that as a lot to do with the emergence of European countries and the US.

LOL that really helped with KK over Katchuk

While I'm not going to bet that Lafreniere wont make a jump, the Habs have also made the "trade for the under-performing elite Francophone prospect" before, and it didn't work out great.

We still take the pick with several highly rated Centers and Dmen available. A winger isn't a core piece I'd want to build around. You trade for one, once you're set on a core, our current core is depleted.
this is true. Gorton isn't bergervin who may not have learned his lesson with drouin. not that laf is drouin, but i want to stop with trading for the local kid at all costs.
and as you posted, it's stupid to build from the wing

I think it would be different for a Quebecois player that is already well-established and in his prime.

But for a young, highly-touted Quebecois player trying to develop? I think Montreal would be more likely to bury him and I say this as a big fan of the city itself.

What? Lafreniere's value tanked last year and tanked even more this year because of his lack of progression. It's happened multiple times before that players have unbusted but we're not giving them a prospect(of our choice!) that is looking good for a prospect that isn't looking good. You can't just use a prospect until he looks like a bust and then trade him away at zero loss, other teams are seeing the same things you are. You're better off keeping him and hoping he unbusts.

Latendresse stopped playing hockey before turning 30
Fucale is ahler
Carle and Leblanc are not even worth talking
Drouin is a floater and has negative value for 4 years now in Montreal.

Yes we have a huge history with french canadians , but since year 2000+ it's been more than awful.
That's my point.

Like if Huberdeau wanted to be UFA id take a yes but as for prospects. Hell no. imagine a 1st overall french canadian in montreal , dude makes 1 turnover and whole state would burn

A struggling quebecer in Montreal, what could go wrong here!

Be prepares for a Drouin 2.0 situation where fans will shred him every time he goes on pointless game streak

Even if the Habs picked 3rd or 4th, they should not trade that picked for Laff who had not done much the last couple of years.

Drafting has been god awful since the famous 2007 draft. It has nothing to do with nationality. It seems like you have hatred for french canadiens and I'm not sure why...
