This team just cannot shut down and hold leads. It’s really bad. That was also the first time this season the Kings came back after being down after two...thanks Sam for that stat. Lol

At least this time they held a lead they actually deserved to have in the first place.

Baby steps

It really is going to be a tight race to the bottom again this season.

I'm starting to think Gorts is a little bit idealistic when he says Hank will still be a top NHL goalie by the time NYR are competitive again. Honestly best case scenario we're in the playoffs again the season after next. 20-21. That's Hank's last year under contract, and he'll be the same age Luongo is now.

With the exception of Brodeur and Hasek (Both nonbutterfly goaltenders) I can't think of a modern goaltender who hadn't significantly declined by age 39. Luongo hit a wall this season. Belfour was a backup by this age.

The Rangers have four forwards capable of producing any offense on a consistent basis. Zibanejad who has been great in the last 3-4 weeks. Kreider who has fallen back on earth since December. Zuccarello who is playing his best hockey of the season. Hayes who has been good all season but he wasn't good last night. Maybe he celebrated the Patriots SB win a little too hard the night before. They trade away at least two of them(Hayes & Zuccarello for sure, maybe Kreider(depends)) by the 25th. Look out. Timber. Watch out. Look out below. Timber. They have 20 games left after the deadline. 10 more games before the deadline. 1-2-1 since coming back from the long break.

Hayes hasnt been a scoring much since Kreider left him.

Luongo is still good when he is healthy, that doesn't happen much. I agree though, hank will at best be a 1b by the time this team competes for anything. Decreasing his work load would do a lot to help him to continue to play. This season is a nothing, split the rest of the year with Georgiev.

Beyond all the usual stuff I'm excited to see how Strome progresses in this organization with guys like Kreider,Skjei, Zibanajad etc who all put hard time in during the summer. In the short time he has been here he is night and day better what he was in Edmonton and every game he seems better and actually looks good with Chytil.

Namestnikov-Howden-Strome has the potential to be a very passable third line, and not very much fun to play against.

to be honest why on earth are we trying to win games...we are currently holding the 9th draft spot and for what reason? we obviously are not making the playoffs so why bother even trying to win games...this team should be in full tank mode and get down to the lower 5 draft position...wining games the rest of this season is utterly pointless, the season is a washout so just tank the rest of the way and get down to the last 5 pick positions

Looking at this defense, I’m not sure why anyone would feel confident about this tram holding a lead. Go watch McQuaid on the tying goal.

Strome is carrying his line based on eye test. He's cycling and protecting the puck. Too bad he has Nash syndrome. And those who are playing with him are not doing much.

I’m amazed people like namestnikov he is pure garbage and at 4 million dollars?! Horrific

The other guy floating by is Jesper Fast. He’s been awful. He’s been undisciplined and his going to be 28 next year. He should be a goner.

For me these two along with Buchnevich and Vesey need to be gone. Obviously Hayes and Zucc but these 4 guys are not going to help us get better. They’re bad players. The quicker they’re gone the better long term.

I like Strome Nieves and Howden. I think they all should be added to kreider Zibanejad and Chytil moving forward. Kravstov of course, our top pick this year, and hopefully Panarin and you’ve got 9 of your forwards imo.

Namestnikov is a nondescript dime a dozen player. He's really overpaid for what he brings. Fast is a complete black hole offensively.

Namestnicov plays the right way, his play is infectious,he works hard, hits, and is hard to play against, something Fast used to be but is pretty much invisible now. The cap hit is an overpay so I'm not sure we will be able to keep him but if its between him and fast I'd take Namestnicov now.
I'm with you on Buch, I just think mentally he cant handle the NHL. Vesey doesnt bother me if he is cheap and on the 3rd or 4th line but he needs to embrace the role of power forward for him to be effective.

To me I try and trade Zuc, Hayes, Buchnevich, McQuaid, Fast and offer to retain on Staal and Smith to see if there is any interest. The roster will be pretty baron but we might get to see Andersson again to see if the time in the minors has helped.

The Rangers couldn't lose at home in November. They went 7-1 at home in November. They have been bad at home in the last couple of months.

Lost to Winnipeg in a shootout 4-3. They had a 3-0 lead in the 3rd period.

Lost to Arizona in OT 4-3 on a Stepan GWG. They were in complete control of that game. Arizona hung around and OEL beat Lundqvist from the blue line.

Lost to Vegas 4-3 in OT on a Tuch GWG.

Beat Anaheim 3-1 in a boring game. It was in slow motion. Johnson was in net for Anaheim.

Lost to Philly in a shootout 3-2.

Lost a brutal game to Columbus 4-3. The Rangers were up 3-2. Strome scored a goal to make it 4-2 and it was off side. Columbus scores in the last minute to tie it up at 3-3. Dubois scored in OT.

Pittsburgh blew them out 7-2.

Lost to the Islanders 4-3 in the waning minute on a goal by Bailey.

The Rangers blew out Carolina as usual. Carolina hasn't won a game since Barack Obama's 1st term as president.

The Rangers beat Chicago 4-3 in a game where the Rangers controlled play and should have been up 3 goals in the 2nd period.

Lost to Philly 1-0. Stolarz shut them out.

Lost to Tampa 3-2.

Lost to LA 4-3 in OT on a Toffoli goal. LA had no business winning the game.

13 home games.

3-4-6
Wait until after the fire sale. Gonna make the Knicks look like the Pats.

I'd break it out into tiers.

Zucc, Hayes, McQuaid, Namestokov are players i am actively looking for a net-positive return (picks and young prospects)

Buchnevich and Fast I listen to offers, and take one if someone blows us away

Smith and McLeod i look for like-minded swaps, 'change-of-scenery' type trades, if only because i don't think we can get real value back (see 1st category above)

I'm hesitant to trade Staal or Shatty because (1) Staal at this point is a legacy palyer, and i think he deserves to play it out. Shatty because moving him is a bad message towards future FAs.

Fast has been taking maintenance days lately in lieu of practicing. He is not healthy

Because coaches think holding leads is about throwing up your best defensive guys for 10 mins... You can't take your foot off the gas

Only feel that for the last two mins or so, but yeah you need to keep foot on the gas and try and score an insurance goal.

Plays the right way? 16 pts in 50 games making 4 mil a year is playing the right way? If everyone played the right way like namestnikov and Fast we’d be a laughingstock. Sick of this idea of playing the right way meaning trying really hard and accomplishing nothing

This game should have been a blowout. We can't finish as a group.

Again... that was a necessary loss last night.

People can talk about how the Kong’s have our # but it doesn’t matter.

Until we draft top 2 or 3 it won’t matter.
Exactly. It’s in their best interest to lose and put themselves into the best position possible for the draft lottery. Draft position can decide whether you draft a Pettersson or a Lias “Malhotra”
