Even Lucic signed a 1 mil deal. He'd have worked as well. With Lewis we're going to get at least 1 failed breakaway!
Why the hell did Blake sign washed up Lewis. He did absolutely nothing with the Flames. He was washed up after the Kings let him go last time.

Lucic only got 1 million and Reaves only 1.3. This shows the Kings didn’t want to invest in a big forward.
Maybe the Kings reached out and were rejected? Lucic was always rumored to go to Boston, hopefully we at least kicked tires with Reaves. Fell back to England who can slip back and forth to the AHL?

Just curious what the expectation was for a getting a Goalie today? Based on what the situation was, this is exactly what was going to happen. Just not sure why such an uproar about it, it was a known thing
well yeah, the expectation was low if you tunnel vision into "what's different today that wasn't yesterday"

the expectation was iron this out BEFORE you go and sign a big ticket center! we knew from the day edmonton punted us, durzi walker et al needed to go. great job, did that one, perfect. goaltending was suspect.............. PLD!!! oh f*** we still have no goalie

it's the thought process that was f***ed from day 1, it's not the players

Blake took arguably the top prospect pool in the league 1 day after winning the 2 overall pick, mismanaged the development of an entire pipeline, nutted 2 top 5 picks, let 75% of the prospect pool whither on the vine and become waiver fodder, or throw ins to make up for pisspoor roster management!

He took a team with a huge window to one with a 2 year window with Kopitar and Doughty! If he wins a cup he got lucky his bullshit worked out. More than likely he Sam McMastered this team!

I don't know why everyone is so surprised by these moves, we literally can only afford the bottom of the barrel guys that we can waive and send down without a cap penalty and low risk of being claimed. Today we need bodies. We are going to have weaknesses to start the season, but there will also be opportunities for the kids on ELCs to earn a spot and it'll be a make or break year for several of them.

There won't be, though. These signings blocked them yet again.

Sure we can sing the usual refrain of 'it's their spot to win' but we've seen how that's played out every single year since Blake has been here.

EVEN WITH NO CAP SPACE Blake and TM can't help themselves but provide dead bodies in the way.

As of right now--

Byfield - Kopitar - Kempe
Fiala - Dubois - Arvidsson
Moore - Danault - Lewis
Grundstrom - Lizotte - Kaliyev

Fagemo, JAD, Turcotte, Thomas, Madden, etc...all waiver eligible but turcotte

Doughty-Anderson
Gavrikov-Roy
Englund-Clarke/Spence
Clarke/Spence, Bjornfot

At least one of Spence/Clarke is blocked if not both, and Toby will be waiver eligible too.

It's not today -- goes back to the PLD contract. It's a continuation of that. You are late to the party. It's why many of us were so against that trade. The trade itself was fine -- it's the contract that was bad. Because it prevents being able to fill a HUGE hole at Goalie. Let alone size/toughness.

The problem now where does Fagemo play.

The two extra forwards are now JAD or Fagemo and neither can pass thru waivers. I really hope Lewis is an extra forward or heads to Ontario.

Kiss him goodbye

Instead of trading any of the 8-ish waiver eligible 1st-3rd round forwards for picks or anything else, we're just going to waive them after getting nothing out of them but burying them in the AHL for years.

the fact that he hasn't given out a 5-8 yr contract to anybody today is a win

we have to adjust our expectations, in order to see the clear wins here today guys

all his contracts can be bought out on the cheap, that's the win of the day

I like to imagine that Englund is here for a shot in camp but the expectation of being waived into the #8 spot. The second year acting as a potential waiver deterrent for his role in Ontario.
Wouldn't be the worst thing ever if it was. Although would also not be surprised if he also stayed up as the 7 depending on if they want both Spence and Clarke in at the same time

The Kings only drafted him 3 years ago. You expect him to get an NHL spot this early? :sarcasm:

A la the Moverare contract.

But this is where we are, and this is what was going to happen. I think the PLD move was necessary. What was a fair deal to you? It's within range. I agree with your point on the toughness, and I want that as well. Hopefully we can address that throughout the season/trade deadline. I wanted Garret Hathaway, but here we are.

Easy answer. Bodies = kids with the exception of a goalie since there isn’t anyone in the system that can be a #1 goalie right now.

Why do people look at deals signed in free agency and assume the Kings could have gotten the player at the same price? A lot of those players could have family or non-hockey reasons to choose a destination. Blake could have even offered the same deal and they just chose elsewhere, we don't know.
