20 minute drive to the Arena? Is it Superbowl Sunday?
Sorry, I thought the players live closer to Staples but maybe that’s just the NHL guys. I guess even from Manhattan Beach is still a 40 minute drive but it’s still not flying across the country.

Just signed Trevor Lewis.
Probably to retire as a Kings no more...he doesn't have anything left...but if they think he can help the 4th line then there has to something huge coming down the Pike and I'm thinking Hellebuyck and Stanley from the Jets for a Shit-Load of Kings...I'm thinking 8-10 players...Bjornfot,Grundstrom,Moore,Lizotte, Spence,Fagemo,Turcotte,Simontaival,Jamsen and Markkonen...forget it that's not near enough to get Chevy to move the needle even 1 cm

Ontario has 13 forwards including Fagemo and only 5 D including Bjornfot. Assume one of Spence or Clarke goes down, that makes 6, but then Tobias needs waivers.
Nope Bjornfot has 1 more year without waivers but I imagine he's grown really tired playing for the baby Kings! I think he's probably wondering how he got talked into coming to NAmerica as a 17-18 year old

Talbot...not horrible...not great. Feeds my theory that the team identity is changing. No longer a defense first team. We just don't have the players. Gonna be more offensive and let loose a bit. Team will have some lapses. If he wanted the build from the back out, he would have cut loose Copley and signed Korpi to the 4 mil/year and made adjustment to keep him and brought in a scrub at 1 million or league min as a bad up. Team is going in a diff direction. I just don't know if he knows.

A little butt hurt Korpi went another way but I get it. Life span in hockey isn't forever and he needs to get paid. He's worth it and got his long term deal on a shit team but would have liked more of him.
That's the thing with the trade: everyone knew it would be tough to sign both of them. The fact that Gavrikov played so well sealed it for Korpi and Blake had to do the whole Petersen/retention trade just to keep Gavrikov.

I get punting on goalie. They didn't have insane goaltending last season and the D Corp should be better on Opening Night. Are the forwards better defensively though? Cue Trevor Lewis signing.

It's just absolutely wild that this is what the team looks like post-tanking.

Last season's Toronto Leafs/Marlies are in the same situation and I think you're underselling it. It was an absolute shit show to the penny every day.

It's far more inconvenient than "less than ideal."
Absolutely agree. Not saying that won’t be a fight to stay under the cap. The management team has really painted us into a corner.

And out of everything. All I think is if they would’ve signed Moore to that ridiculous contract we would have four extra million to play with this year and a guy like Fagemo would get a chance for playing time.

Now the rumors are they are trying to extend Kopitar sooner than later. Why do they think everything needs to be done at the beginning of the season. At this point we have the horses to replace him next year if he walks or wants to much. If he plays well again this year he still not gonna make $10 million a year like he did this past contract. Wait to the end of the year until the team makes a decision on stuff like this.

Blake took arguably the top prospect pool in the league 1 day after winning the 2 overall pick, mismanaged the development of an entire pipeline, nutted 2 top 5 picks, let 75% of the prospect pool whither on the vine and become waiver fodder, or throw ins to make up for pisspoor roster management!

He took a team with a huge window to one with a 2 year window with Kopitar and Doughty! If he wins a cup he got lucky his bullshit worked out. More than likely he Sam McMastered this team!
Rob Blake’s McMaster Class.

Cap friendly shows Björnfot not being waiver exempt next year. Think he hit the games played mark.

Bjornfot, Fagemo and JAD all require waivers.

Spence, Clarke, Kayilev and Byfield do not.
One of those groups should all be in the starting lineup.
The other group should all be on bench / waiting for an opportunity in Ontario.
Unfortunately, it's backwards with how the waiver requirements line up. Another job well done and proper roster planning Blake!

Tristan Jarry 5 years 5.375M

Need to find a young goalie that can get it done & not double down on an overpaid vet after the Cal debacle.

That's been the stated identity for a couple of years now... But here we are with Todd as the head coach and his refusal to run anything than a 1-3-1 trap system that stifles any offensive creativity these players could bring.

There's a clear disconnect between the system the team plays and the players being brought in.
I've had a thought in my head these past 2 seasons that if you take these rosters and give them no coaching and have have them play themselves, team pond hockey wins the majority of those games.

I don't mind these rosters, I don't think they are great, but they are better on paper than they are on the ice.

A bit surprised they're going Jarry/Nedeljkovic (DeSmith trade too?) instead of going for Helle/Gibson

So I'm guessing Kaliyev and Spence will be "sent down" as paper transactions back and forth through out the season to get their cap hits down?

Byfield-Kopitar-Kempe
Moore-PLD-Arvidsson
Fiala-Danault-Kaliyev/Fagemo
Grundstrom-Lizotte-Lewis
JAD

Anderson-Doughty
Gavrikov-Roy
Bjornfot?-Clarke
Spence

Copely-Talbot

^That's probably your opening night lineup, unless they sign a 35+ LHD.
L3 has been together for over season and a half, as the shut down , chip in line.
I doubt they break them up.
The minutes may even up more with the top 3 lines but I believe they will look at;

Fiala - PLD - Kaliyev

for continuity.
The D pairs may differ from game to game.
I would roll out Spence first to evaluate and or shop , while Clarke starts in AHL.
Moverare 7D.
Conauton is a possibility as well. He is listed as RD/LD
