If what Shanahan said was true.

Dubas probably just did what Matthews, Marner, Nylander and Tavares did to him. Play hard ball and expect to get what they want.

Sucks because I thought he was a good GM overall. But he needed a rude awakening. Let’s hope that whoever we bring in is better.

But the experienced GM comment scares me. Who has experience that would actually be a better GM than Dubas? I genuinely can’t think of anyone.

A GM can't really publicly hold the organization's feet to the fire the same way as star players, because they normally represent the owners in the management hierarchy. For all practical purposes, the GM is the organization's public face.

Me atm... Soo who's the new GM...

OMFG just saw this clip on twitter.

Dubas was angling for more pay by using media and what not I am 100% sure about it now than I was before.

Shanny said dubas' agent called with a new "financial package" offer that dubas wants to be a GM and Shanny basically told him to F-OFF

Dubas can F right off

I didn’t want to believe it because using your family as a negotiation tactic in public is kind of scummy and Dubas doesn’t seem like that kind of guy. However, the more that comes out it kind of looks like it was a leverage play for Dubas.

I personally wanted to keep Dubas but he kind of played himself here. Especially when he came back saying what he said in his availability and then asking for more money.

Learning what we know now I think the decision to move on makes sense. I do not like the culture we had here. Leafs need to stop giving these guys everything they want. This is THE best market to play in or work in. That should be the sell for anyone that wants to work or play for the Leafs.

I get more of a vibe that Shannahan wanted to extend Dubas for at least 3 (likely 4-5) years and Dubas countered with 1-2 because it actually was a rough year on his family and I can't blame him for not wanting to lock in if his family is gonna be dealing with harassment or other "fan" conflicts.

The big disconnect there is that there is a salary cap with the players. The numbers matter, because it's a zero sum game. That's not true of the GM. Who the f*** cares if he played hardball on his own contract? "We could've had a better backup if we weren't paying Kyle that extra $1.5M." It's completely immaterial.
At the end of the day there has to be a number especially for someone with no results

Did I miss something? It seemed to me it was just as likely (or more likely) that it was term instead of amount.
Ok.. add term to my statement if it was that.. there has to be a limit to anyone that runs a business.. even big ones

Cause these rich sociopaths got successful by doing the same thing over and over and i dont see it changing because 'pffft.. what is an extra 3 yrs at 6 million they have tons.. especially to the guy that got babcock gone and that cost

I do wonder if it was process more than dollars. Changing the number this late in the game is pretty shady.

But again, why should you or I or anybody else outside of the board room give a shit about that? Either he's the right guy or he's the wrong guy. Larry Tannenbaum having an extra 1/15th of a million dollars is not something I give two shits about, personally.

I don't care an iota about how demanding or a push over Dubas was or wasn't in negotiating his contract. Not a single f*** given. That has nothing to do with the hockey team. If Shanahan came out and said "I've lost faith in Kyle's vision for the team and I'm pursuing a different direction," hey, great, that's a good reason to fire a guy. "This was 100% my guy after watching everything on the ice but then I saw a presser and got a gut feeling to fire him, so now I'm doing that with zero preparation a month before Marner's NMC kicks in because I'm an Aquarius and we're just kinda like that sometimes," f*** right off pal.

It comes down to professional judgements for me. If you cant negotiate your own deal in good faith its a pretty big red flag.

Maybe thats bullshit, and I'd like to hear from Kyle on exactly what happened, but changing your ask last minute is horrendous, especially with the amounts floated out.

I thought Dubas did pretty a good job as a GM but I'm still glad to see change of any kind. I hope they bring in someone good. I hope Keefe is gone too and at least one of the core is traded for a king's ransom (probably not JT, that contract is unmovable).

Man...the GM that's gonna be walking into this is going to have a massive storm to course through.
Yea, sure is mess with all these NMC's kicking it, extensions needed almost immediately, a coach that keeps failing, etc. No wonder Dubas bailed :sarcasm:
