You mean this guy?
I thought he passed away? RIP.
This one:

So when a new GM comes in, hires a new coach and they’re both in agreement they want to keep the Core 4 together and put in players around them they feel would work, how we feeling about that? This could be a possibility with new people in place.
I'd be fine with that but it better work.

OMG the media narrative are unreal. You'd think this freaking guy won 4 cups and formed a new Leafs Dynasty. Hard to replace? What the heck was he even exceptional at considering the point of Hockey is to win.

Give me a break
I think it'll be a difficult transition because there are dozens of hires in that front office with varying degrees of loyalties to Kyle Dubas. We'd like to believe it'll just be a simple matter of finding a new general manager but a new general manager begets new assistant gms, new coaches, new player development people, new scouts, etc.

No it's not. And players have more choices about where they're going to play than ever. College players like Fox basically demanding two trades? Tkachuk? Eichel? Happens in the NBA all the time, only a matter of time.

Jokes because wasn't chicken little right in the end?
name me a player in the history of the NHL that has demanded a trade because a GM was let go. players want to win and make money and not have to play for torts for more than 2 seasons, they dont demand out because a GMs contract isnt renewed.

Why be loyal to a guy who pulled that stunt and not to his boss who was loyal to Dubas to a fault for 9 years ?

I thought the "stress on the family" comment meant that Shanahan had canned him shortly after we lost to Florida, but gave him the opportunity to leave gracefully by letting him say it was his choice, and for the sake of family.

Based on Shanahan's comments today, it looks like that was a bargaining ploy that backfired.

We may never know for sure.

Im sure they gave him an ultimatum
The board needed someone to go and the obvious choice was keefe but i feel dubas wouldn’t do that
Also one of marner or nylander have to go and im sure he wouldn’t do that

They gave him a choice and he quit

or... just hear me out here....

The Chinese Farmer took a flight to Toronto and told him "Stop using my name and take some freakin' responsibility!"

I am not sure about tbh...in the span of 5 weeks, draft, Free Agency, NTC & NMC is locked in so if we are looking to make trades all while unsure what kind of team we are going to pony up in the upcoming future without a coach.

I am pretty calm about the Matthews front tbh... Just the other aspects seem hectic for a short period of time which can determine the next couple of years.
Any trades we don't need to be in a rush with. FA I'm not too worried about if we have a new coach in place or Keefe because they can figure out what players would work in the system they want to use. The draft will be the hardest part but I think if we give the new GM at least a month to find new staff and work on draft strategy then it's not too bad. We also only have what? 3 picks? So it's not like we'll be busy on draft day unless we trade back.

Yea, Matthews' AAV could get extravagant. Interestingly though, I would prefer a shorter deal to keep that number down as opposed to the last time.

Tavares' situation actually would be better if it's sorted out sooner. If he is at all moveable, doing that and finding a replacement at 2c is important.
Isn’t the AAV likely to be higher on a shorter term deal at this point in his career? His age 27-29 years are likel valued more than his age 30+ years. The more age 30+ years the Leafs buy, the lower the AAV is likely t be.

At least in my opinion. But as always, I could be wrong.

This organization needed a kick in the stones.
It became so complacent with yearly excuses, run it back, wear your Mickey Mouse shirt and hold hands for 5 playoff games won after 7 years.
Now it’s finally getting interesting again.

Yes! Corrective action is good. Doing what needs to be done is the right thing to do.

Not exactly that but when Punch Imlach came back for a second time he kind of went to war against the players. Sittler I believe asked out but instead Lanny McDonald and Tiger Williams got traded thus breaking up the band. Sittler eventually got his wish although I think Imlach wasn't really running things by then.

I suppose it would depend on how short.

But right now, I wouldn't think they would do say 12.5 for 7 or 8, but they may do it for 4 years and then get another bite later.
