I thought you gave up your leafs fandom when Dubas got let go?

Going to be fun watching all the people celebrating Dubas being fired cry about how poor management is next season and going forward without a sense of irony. I'm sure the excuse is we hired the wrong GM. Damn if only Shanny didn't handcuff himself maybe we would get a better one than Treliving

A good reason why people probably shouldn't work themselves up into a tizzy until more information comes out.

This places the desire for more "autonomy" into a whole other light. Wasn't about getting to do whatever he wanted - rather didn't want to rely on Shanny as the only pathway to addressing the ownership board. One can still argue he didn't need it, but it also comes across as a much more reasonable request....
And not trusting shanahan

A very subtle play is to show up your boss in front of the bigger bosses

So you were never a leafs fan then just a Dubas one?

Seems like you should be in Pittsburghs begging them to hire him instead of here then

Isn’t that something? He had tears in his eyes when he sat up there a little over a week ago using them as negotiating leverage.
Families are off limits, but he threw his into the ring.
A dumb negotiation ploy but I can't see him making that play, which cost him $20m, if he did not have a deal elsewhere in his back pocket. The Pens window is closing. He may want to tell his wife that there will be pressure to win.

Another Dubasite hoping Dubas does better than the team. Just WOW.

Nah, we’ll blame everything that goes wrong on Dubas, just like the Dubas disciples blamed poor Lou. JT’s contract handcuffed the Leaf……Dubas, no cap room…..Dubas, can resign core……Dubas, no draft picks……Dubas. It’s going to be so much fun………

How close is Kyle Dubas to becoming the Penguins' general manager?
How about close enough to have met with the resident franchise icon?A source with knowledge of the situation told DK Pittsburgh Sports that Dubas, an apparent finalist for the GM vacancy, was at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex for a session that extended late into Tuesday night. Sidney Crosby also was there and was believed to be among those who met with Dubas. Members of the Penguins' public relations staff also were on hand.

Feel bad for Fenway. They are getting duped. He has zero clue on how to build a team and Pitts needs a GM to overhaul. Bad choice. Dubas is going to find out quickly that he really is a shyt GM

Dubas did the handcuffing and got himself fired. That stunt he played was unprofessional and he didn’t deserve to be retained.
When looking at the situation, you can’t ignore that piece of the puzzle.

The leafs not having a GM like 5 weeks before Matthews/Marner get that NMC is concerning

We need to bring in a GM asap or promote Pridham

Get this distraction out of the way and assess what direction this team is moving in next year

If it's been Shanahan who has had the ultimate veto/say on all deals, no doubt Shanahan and Pridham can take care of these contracts.

Thank you for being clearing that up for everyone. Clearly you know more than most of the media people who are talking about this.

That being said, time will reveal all.
Actually.. when push comes to shove we might

I always randomly think about trackimg this.. my random thoughts.. thoughts from other posters that make sense and loosely some media and have a tally of hit rate.. could call it endless thoughts

FSG is quite competent as far as sports management go. Not surprised that they're sniffing around Dubas to see what lessons he's learned from his failure here in Toronto. The failure is there for everyone to see, but so too are the virtues.

He's got to have learned that loyalty is earned rather than granted, that coddling your players is a route to failure, and that decisive decisions must be made sooner rather than later. He failed here by signing our young guys to those stupid contracts and then hanging on through the experiment for far too long. He failed by letting the team have a horribly weak leadership structure, and that comes from his signings of Tavares, loyalty to Keefe, and coddling of Marner and Matthews. Nylander was the one he played hardball with and Nylander is the one who rewarded him. He failed by watching them fold against CBJ and running it back, then watching them fold against MTL and running it back, then accepting that a mild improvement against Tampa was good enough, and then when he watched them fold against FLA it was too late.

Failure is the greatest of teachers. To become great you must not be afraid to fail, and we will all fail along the way. You don't pop out of the womb as Jacques Lemaire, and Dubas came in with the hubris of youth and thought he could reinvent the wheel. He didn't have the background of Stevie Y or the longevity of Lou. But the promise of a young GM prospect is hard to ignore. He's got a good record as a talent evaluator, who's drafted decently well and who's trades improved as he went on and learned from failures. He's loyal at his core, which is simultaneously a weakness to be exploited and a strength that will help him build relationships. He's often overplayed his hand and that's cost us dearly, but that also speaks of a willingness to be decisive, which will serve him well as his judgement improves.

The real trick for his future will be whether he can really get inside the minds of his core and build a hockey team that works. He seemed to go off ideals rather than the players he had in front of them, trusting them when instead they needed to be held accountable. He managed to put some very good teams on ice here in Toronto, his work around the edges was consistently very good, but the core of our team was always less than the sum of their parts. If he can build a core that wins, he'll see a lot of success. If he can't crack the core nut, he will always be a pretender. FSG will do their diligence.

Leafs Home Board
Also speaks to a certain autonomy doesn’t it, guy literally stuffed every MLSE orfice with Soo connections. Oh, his hands were tied, pleaaazzzzeee.

You know there is some Irony in Dubas connection to the Soo and his love for the past and acquiring players under his time as GM.

One of the players under coach Sheldon Keefe first season as coach in 2012-13 was leading scorer Nick Cousins (now of the Florida Panthers).

Not only did Cousins score the 1st goal of the Leafs/Florida series sending Panthers off.

but guess who scored the series clinching goal in game #5 in OT?

So ex Soo Greyhound started it and then ended the Leafs season in round #2 ..

Wonder if Dubas and Keefe after collecting so many former Soo players, realize the one they didn't, did them in, and might now even end their Leaf careers as the last goal ever scored against them in Leafs management roles.

What we know is that Dubas was ok with trading a core 4 player. According to Johnston, Shanahan called the core 4 and said they're staying.

If we hire another GM before then and we essentially run it back with the same core, then I feel Dubas' asked for autonomy is justified because Shanahan would've blocked a trade. Which makes us look even more of a clown organization because everyone is generally in agreement that after 7 years with minimal success, the core 4 has to be broken up.

I reserve judgment until July 1st passes.
