I sincerely hope Dubas helps curb all of this Stockholm Syndrome moves like resigning Dumo....

I for one am intrigued by him and whoever he gets as GM. I think we are trending up. Makes it hilarious how 95% of Leafs fans are so upset. Pretty pathetic to read some takes.
It's like reading the takes around here of people who think Mike Sullivan is the one singular issue affecting this team, tbh.

Extra hilarious given how when he was still their GM the majority of those posters praised everything he did and would defend with vigor any time he was criticized.

Kind of reminds me of a jilted lover who thought his girlfriend was perfect and tried to fight anyone who said otherwise, but when she dumps him he's all "She's not that hot anyway and I didn't like how she treated me a lot of the time".

We are so fortunate that FSG was able to bring in Kyle Dubas. Thank you to FSG for making this happen.

Whoever Kyle Dubas brings in as GM I trust it will be a good person.

My old list of GM Candidates before Dubas was hired were these names. Pridham I think will be the GM, but my older list of progressive, young and creative hires were these names.

1. Brandon Pridham
2. Eric Tulsky
3. Meghan Chayka
4. Sam Ventura
5. Zac Urback
6. Cam Lawrence
7. Tyler Dellow
8. Matt Cane
9. Arik Parnass
10. Alexandra Mandryck

With Dubas as president its less important to have a progressive GM, but any of these names would be cool. Whoever it is, in Dubas I trust.

Wasn’t there like a 35 page thread on how HFboards owes Dubas an apology like 5 months ago?

Life comes at you fast.

Brandon Pridham definitely will be the new GM.

He has a history of working closely with Dubas so there is a comfort there and won't get a bruised ego if Dubas steps in at times and works with him.

The Pens won't have permission to talk to him until after the draft and free agency is the only hold up.

Dubas wasn’t brought in to break up the core or to end this era before they retire. Anyone hoping he goes that route… ? I don’t know that you’re picking up on the signals the organization is putting out, but the earliest the rebuild starts is 2 years if Sid decides to retire. I would rule out a 1-year deal to finish with the other two, though. And in that case, you’re waiting 3 years for the tear down.

I’m not arguing right or wrong, just saying that the organization is going to try to compete this year

I wasn't arguing that the Pens would do that.

It would shock me completely on many levels.

I was saying that they should do that and that the fan base is drinking kool-aid if they think that this team can catch lightning in a bottle again.

I think, pragmatically, and in a vacuum without emotions, starting the rebuild last year was the right move (may as well shoot for Bedard).

After re-signing malkin and letang, it feels difficult to do it now. I’m sure you could trade the big-3, but man… 1) who wants to be that guy? 2) you’re probably not getting a lot for anyone but maybe Crosby.

I just think they’re locked into this situation now. They chose this last year

This is the correct plan

And moving aside pure logic, on one level I agree with the Pens.

If the core stuck with the Pens their entire careers and gave us three cups they deserve that ride off into the sunset if they want it. The fans deserve it too.

Even if it sets back the needed rebuild. Even if the chances of winning another cup, or even a deep run, are miniscule.

GM - Pridham
Someone with an analytic role - Cam Larence

Yeah it will be interesting to see who Dubas fills the role with. He said "It will be someone who possess a particular skillset that I do not have myself." I like it.

I’m surprised that FSG bought the team and then was okay with a farewell tour, but as a sports fan (not even specifically a penguins fan), allowing a generational core to finish their careers together should always be the move, imo. This is such a rare thing, it should be encouraged and celebrated. I hope they get one more good run. I don’t think they can do it, but a 3rd round run for these guys would be spectacular

If you look at the SCF teams now, there’s no way the Pens can get to the level to actually compete for the Cup in the next few years…players play much more physical, quicker, and nothing like how Sullivan wants to play…but I love watching the core and I’m glad they’re there and maybe we can make it to the POs again and possibly win a round…that will be the best they can do

Which is why I hope that Dubas looks at it like that. A ride off into the sunset and gift to the fans. Meaning not mortgaging too much of the future on this last year or two.

I like the hire and have zero expectations of winning another cup with this core. If we do id be shocked...

As with all GMs/PoHO/VPs... Some moves will he good, some won't.

I guess you have to bring up Torontos short comings and disappointments. But not all of it falls on Dubas. Also their are many differences between PoHo Dubas in Pittsburgh and GM Dubas in Toronto.

For one he got his wish to be the shot caller. No more Shanahan and Ownership red tape to cut thru. Seems like FSG is giving him the keys to the kingdom.

So let's see if they truly were handcuffing him on things and forcing him to do things he didn't want to do on other things.

I'm also interested to see if he really wants the best front office possible, or if he's going to hire all his buddies like some claim he will.

But as the future goes I'm excited to see how he rebuilds the team for the future since he's a younger progressive guy that is willing to use new innovative tools/means to make decisions.

Not just some old dinosaur retread that refuses to move into the 21st century cause they'd rather do things "the old way" Like its the 80s and 90s still.

Who he hires to fill out the front office will be telling I think. I really hope its the best people for the job like Darche etc. Instead of crony yes men. Altho I'm sure there will be at least 1 of those hired.

Pens have a lot of space right now. There is potential to really reshape the roster, let's see what Dubas does. It's not likely the Pens win, but it's absolutely possible. Look at what Florida is doing this year. Look at what Vegas is doing a year after missing the playoffs. No perfect comparisons, but I'm confident he can at least get the team back up to playoff level. And then before we know it Sid will be done, and it will be rebuild time.

Ok, get ready to be stunned.

Brian Burke is not a fan of Dubas.
