I mean, I get the logic behind it; one of my new positions was created with exactly the same kind of thinking and it's kicked off an insane power struggle because of it. Perhaps that's why I'm so cynical about it.

The logic behind making the PoHO the real brains behind the team is fine. I'm just doubtful it's going to make any difference except promote the kinds of operations we're seeing JR do in Seattle. And if PoHO has this much power, then we are going to get exactly the same calibre of GMing in proportion to it. That's what I mean. You're not going to get the kind of candidates who we want, who would a that job where they don't make decisions and don't have much input except on minor things.

In practice we've just neutered the GM position, which is fine, but we should take that into account.

It's rarely hard to find reasons to be cynical about business structures.

If you want to see it working, look at Vegas. Not that I've got any bloody clue about how they do it there, but they've been doing it since shortly after expansion and clearly something is going right.

I do kind of share your concern about neutering the GM position. But I figure the structure is common enough by now that I think a lot of prospective GMs might just roll with it, at least pending what Dubas gives them as their responsibilities and powers. And if they're not, then, well, GM and AGM with funky titles it is.

Nice start kyle....don't stop there

One of Kyle Dubas' first orders of business in Pittsburgh was to make front office changes: Alec Schall (dir of hockey strategy), Teena Murray (SVP of sports science/performance) and Kerry Huffman (dir of pro scouting) were all fired on Thursday. All three were Hextall hires.
Love it. Get those sleepy bastards out of here. Clean f***ing house baby.

Hate to give him credit, but Madden wrote a very good piece about the hire.

This was really well written and I completely agree here:

• Dubas presents well. His introductory press conference had more coherence, charisma and insight than the entirety of his predecessor’s tenure. (You may be getting the notion that I don’t believe Ron Hextall provided a tough act to follow.) I was ready to buy a used car, insurance, non-stick cookware, whatever Dubas was selling.

Felt the exact same way during the press conference. I never liked Sleepy but I disliked him even more after that.

Also loved the callout to the Hornqvist/Neal trade and expecting something similar to come soon with Doober.

I know I'm the cynic here, but I'm honestly hopeful that Dubas can ram through some changes. I'm not worried about him seeing the problems, per se, I'm worried about him being able to get the changes made through this weird power-sharing agreement we're working with.

But like always, I hope I'm wrong, and I'll give him time to prove himself.

I’m really excited for the future. Not only the next 2-3 years of the core but after. I like this hire as much as I hated the previous one.

I honestly think that this is a hire for the rebuild rather than some all in for the old guys one more time.

Dubas is a young guy and is not going to want to hamstring the next decade for a pursuit of a fantasy.

Sullivan on same page as Dubas to have Penguins contend for Stanley Cup

Coach agrees with new boss that it's best to 'surround' Crosby, Malkin, Letang with more talent

Speed is what's most needed, Sullivan said.

Oh I'm going to vomit
🤮

if you ever have trouble sleeping, repeat this in your head, no cap, I've done this numerous times, it's like counting sheep, takes your mind off things
it also helps if you’re dressed like this

He basically said what people here & elsewhere that are hardcore Pens fans know! sort of a Sports version of Daniel Patrick Moynihan's D Senator from New York in the 80's wrote a book Defining Deviancy Down. this is Defining smarts down

I don't think the Penguins need to go all in to get over the top. Crosby, Malkin, and Guentzel are still capable of giving you Eichel, Marchessault, and Stone levels of production. Letang still has the fitness to give you 25 minutes.

The bottom six and defenseman 4,5,6,7 are not sell the farm to fix it problems.

Goalies are voodoo. If they get above average goaltending they are in it with a chance for 2 or 3 more years.

Translation: This team's scouting/analytics is a f***ing jalopy and is about to get Ol Yeller'd.

(I hope)
I hear they will be building around Brett Hextall and other ex-70-80s era flyers with 0 experience that are already in the org.

Its going to be a long road and some HFB posters are fools if they think this team has any chance of competing for a cup with Crosby, Malkin and Letang still on the roster. I wish the 3 all the best, but it will soon be time to rip the band aid off and try to convert 1-2 of them into the future of the Penguins. Its best to have a full and firm embrace of the suck instead of half assed attempts at "pushing for the playoffs".

Its still a poor decision to fire Sully considering all the stupid cash he is owed, and who they could replace him with. I'm very excited that Dubas was available and he is a good start to the Pen's 5 year plan.

Makes it sound like the team is a dumpster dive lol…

Jason Bukala is the founder of "The Pro Hockey Group", a player report database populated with scouting reports from expert evaluators around the world. With his years of experience managing an NHL scouting department, he oversees all regions and coverage categories at "The Pro Hockey Group". Jason Bukala has mined talent for several teams over the last 20 years, including the Montreal Canadiens.0 He has also shared his scouting reports on some of the most intriguing players in Montreal's system and projects their NHL futures.2 Jason Bukala was a hockey player active from 1990 to 1992. Shorter version WTFF is he??

Pens don’t need to go all in and they don’t need to hoard all their picks either. They have a big summer here where they can use free agency to effect the largest change. Dubas also isn’t shy about going to Europe for talent, he brought in Barabanov and Mikheyev from Russia. Unfortunately he let Barabanov go get more opportunity in San Jose where he looks really good.. but he was right initially to bring him in. Anyway, stuff that like that can go a long way.

I for one have zero issues with a front office cleanout.
I agree getting rid of the dross that Hextall hired is a good thing.

But the incoming swarm of Dubasites that are about to be hired, will not be a good thing. Check out what is happening in Toronto’s FO right now, it’s literally a Dubasite-instigated riot over there.

I’m not entirely sure I’ve seen one take from any Canadian media that isn’t slamming Dubas or the Pens. Just so salty up north.

Tbf I haven’t seen one Pens media member that has been remotely critical of Dubas or his past work.

Same. Change is always exciting but Dubas really does have that new toy glow about him lol. Obviously it's all talk for now but he's saying all the right things.

I don't expect him to hit a bunch of home runs nor do I think that's even a fair burden to put on him. What I am excited for is that I think it's unlikely that he will throw assets or dollars at garbage players or in a flailing way. Everything will be done with some sort of overarching plan in mind. There won't be a situation of oh shit I can't get Chychrun and I really don't want to trade my first anyways uhh f*** I gotta make a move ok a 2nd for Granlund.
