Or at leadt till the next trip to the woodshed?
That 500K every in cap savings over the course of the deal a 7 and a 5th or a 6th are not mid round picks. Dubas did great in this. Dubas could have resigned him.Too bad he didn't take a hard stance when negotiating with his players which would have saved millions per year on the cap.
It was clear Hyman was going to Edmonton from the beginning after Dubas didn't properly plan to have money to re-sign him. The $500k savings was not worth a ton to Edmonton. They got the player they were after and Dubas lost a player and missed out on mid round picks. Terrible terrible asset management.

I choose option C. We don't accept less than what the team has set as their valuation for a player. We lose Hyman, but we would have anyway. This is the same as all the other free agents except Goodrow. The is better long term as GMs understand they have to he serious when they make offers instead of just expecting the GM to put up or shut up.
There are possibly several including this one depending on whether universal wavefunction is objectively real, and that there is no wavefunction collapse. Clearly in the one we are currently in though . We lost a free agent. Other teams lost free agents, some of them top players. Only Goodrow returned something and that was for exclusive rights. We could have got something back, but Holland didn't step up and pay the price. This is a joke right?
We lost one of our top players and received nothing for it.
Zero.
In what universe can that be considered "great" ?
Ok, I think he will.Yeah I don't think Dubas needs to plan much further ahead than this season.
If the team doesn't perform, he's sacked.
And he knows it.
Instead he just selfishly squandered an opportunity to salvage some assets for a player he couldn't afford to keep.
I don't think there is any information on that. And if Dubas had taken the 5th and 7th, how many of the anti-Dubas crowd would have complained that he was horrible because he could have gotten more?
Do we know if the Leafs broke off the negotiations or the Oilers? I could see the Oilers simply saying at some point “That’s it. We’ll simply do 7 years. All offers are off the table.”

I think if you know you are going to lose Hyman for nothing, even a 7th rounder is better than nothing. And if Dubas had taken the 5th and 7th, how many of the anti-Dubas crowd would have complained that he was horrible because he could have gotten more?

two draft picks in exchange for saving the oilers a couple mill on cap. You better get back at least a second. Anything less. Let him sign the 7 year deal.Lets Review - 2 draft picks on a player your not going to resign vs Nothing ... hmmmmmmmm
Do NHL hockey teams need draft picks?
Given the Leafs have no 3rd, 4th, 5th, or 6th, and have a conditional deal to give away their 7th at next years' draft, why would anyone in their right mind turn down 2 potential picks that cost nothing ?
By getting nothing.Where are these Dubas fanboys that you talk about? I don't think that is the case. Dubas just dispelled the notion that he should take whatever is offered. Holland crapped the bed here not Dubas.
Yes, currently the Leafs have only two picks in the 22 draft. A first and a second. Possibly a 7th, even then if we lose the 7th we would have gotten a guy with more upside and closer to playing than we would have got with the 7th.By getting nothing.
2022 Draft........no 3rd, no 4th, no 5th, no 6th, and, if one of his longshot acquisitions actually works out, no 7th
What a shrewd businessman.![]()

Absolutely, Holland should have stepped up. I couldn't agree more! The team your dealing with is in another division ... Make a deal!

Could you imagine? Even worse, people convincing themselves that SOMETHING is NOTHING and like the other people you are talking about, going on the internet and trying to convince other people of that, too.Imagine having to convince yourself that NOTHING is greater than SOMETHING.
And not just that but then having to go on the internet and trying to convince other people of that, too.
Amazing![]()

Except one of us is grounded in reality.
5th round pick + 7th round pick >>>> receiving nothing
You're attempting to argue the opposite.
As you can see, basically no one agrees with this completely outlandish idea.
You're obviously just trying to pull our legs though.
Appreciate the attempt at abstract humour.
The sad truth is that there are more than a couple of people that do agree with this madness.
