Game one is exactly why you don't have a public feud and negotiating battle with your employers RIGHT BEFORE the biggest series of your life.

So f***ing dumb

They based their decision more on the fact that their staffing budget got f***ed because Dubas canned Babs then torched his career on the way out so they had to pay the entire 25 mil more then anything

$25 million is a drop in the bucket for MLSE. MLSE sneezes and they crap out 5 mil

If the Leafs do flop again and Dubas is not renewed, Shanny should really join him in the unemployment line.

Why? Leafs fans know the story of the franchise by heart since he took over but to summarize the case for the President being ousted:

At some point before he gave a rookie GM the keys to dad's Ferrari, Shanahan had to have had a discussion with Kyle about his vision for the team. And as we learned very soon after Dubas was named GM that his vision was that a fast, skilled, top-heavy, offense-first team with minimal physicality - despite pretty significant, historical evidence to the contrary - could win in the playoffs.

And then he approved Kyle's first big move weeks later: Giving $11M of cap space to a slow center, and future captain, who had almost no playoff success to speak of on his own and the personality of a doormat, just a year before the team's 3 young stars would be rolling up the Brink's truck looking to get paid.

And then Shanny at least indirectly green-lighted each of those other "big 4" contracts, none of which "took less" as Brendan publicly implored. And then approved as Dubas insisted even with $40M in cap tied to four players, he could build a winner.

And not lastly, but also relevantly, okayed hiring a rookie coach doubling down on the idea that inexperience both in the GM's office and behind the bench was the new, improved way to win in the modern NHL.

Lastly, so far, burning through 7 years and growing of two of the greatest talents this franchise has ever seen without a single playoff series victory to show for it.

Rogers / Bell / Shanny / LarryT / Dubas / Keefe all have one thing in common. Incompetence at running an NHL hockey club. With the embarrassment of riches we have, the playoff success rate is a joke.

Basically Bell / Rogers / MLSE are all on corporate welfare. Bell and Rogers care of CRTC and MLSE based on voluntary unwavering support of the most loyal fans in sports. They can do what they want because no matter the results, they will be bailed out.

agreed all of them need to go .. wholesale change to entire mgmt team .. then step 1 bring in a hockey guy with TO success to run team .. Keon might make sense with Killer helping him

Not according to Friedman.
You do know this guy Fridge is a Western drop out like pretty dumb dude .. when I practiced as a CA at kpmg many moons ago i got to see leafs books .. what people don't see is da sponsor $$$ team gets .. ticket revenue is nice .. boxes are nice .. food and merch are nice .. sponsorships dwarf all of those areas .. it is why players association always fights for arena sponsor in HRR and it is why Leafs are not for it .. and it is why leafs can afford to pay triple what they pay in AAV and still roll in Larry's 25m auto dividend .. heads up he is only 25% so owners easily creaming 100M per year

Able to and happy to spend $25m are two different things.

He gave his best buddy a job in Keefe. Then kept him along after all the disasters that he produced so far

Keefe tenure as a coach
The Zamboni saga
Losing to Montreal being up 3-1. Having 3 opportunities to close it out
Losing to Tampa being up 3-2 having 2 opportunities to close it out

Despite all that Keefe hasn't been fired. His indecision about Keefe is we are where we are.

Keep changing the cooks in the kitchen but keeping the captain of the ship in titanic won't change much about it's fate

He's too attached to Keefe. He should have been fired about Montreal. Gallant was available taht year. He should have been fired Tampa last year. Cassidy was available

Keefe will be gone. Dubas will fire him. Just like everything else with Kyle, 2 years too late.

At this point, frankly speaking I don't care who stays who goes. If he can go to Ottawa and win a Stanly cup, good for him. Why hasn't he done that here yet?

We going cry about him in 5 years? that's a chance most of us willing to take. He has had 5 years now to prove something and hasn't done jack

At some point, results matter

I honestly don't get the Keefe hate sorry. I don't.

12 years as a hockey team general manager at three different levels and he has only ever hired 1 coach, Sheldon Keefe!

Nhl general manager for 5 years, and the only goalies he's acquired are both from SOO (Campbell, Murray). His first round pick (Sandin), from SOO. Trades he's made (Muzzin SOO), (Timmins SOO), Bunting (SOO).....

His gameplan pretty much has been, keep the same core he inherited, sign the Toronto boys who want to come home (Brodie, Tavares, Gio, Spezza, Simmonds, Thornton) and thus require no work, hire SOO coach, acquire SOO players, and continually change his bottom six.

His work has been overall pretty lackluster.

This will definitely be his last days on Toronto if we lose to Tampa. The core he lavishly treated don't seem motivated to help him either.

babs torched his own career with his conduct. f*** babcuck

Lou is trash, Babcock is trash and Dubas is super trash. These 3 all come from the same squad.

Time to get rid of the last member
At least Lou learned and got Horvat. Dubas went dinosaur style with his adds. I was told it's supposed to be the other way around where Lou does the dinosaur stuff.

looking at your profile pic... damn we took sundin for granted. he was no rocket richard winner or anything like that, but when the playoffs rolled around, he was tough as nails and helped carry the team.

He was a master of consistency. Although, for all the talk about how Matthews doesn't throw his body around for a big guy (62 hits in his last 15 playoff games) Sundin never really ever threw a hit, but he absorbed quite a lot along the boards and always used his size driving to the net.

also gotta give sundin credit for playing in the dead puck era. always had players draped all over him.

but yea, when sundin was here, there was a big contingent saying he was soft or at least not emotional enough not rock em sock em like wendel etc. some of it was just xenophobic but yea.

I see Dubas as very good, but slightly misguided.
He equates the best organization, the best analytical stats, the best trainers, doctors, therapists, best food as the road to success. And it is, but as a long term company, to be named employer of the year, to have a good stock price, to attract great employees, BUT, winning Stanley is a short term, at all cost endeavor...the short term goal not the highest stock price.
It is hard to give the ultimate sacrifice on the ice IF you are too comfortable off it. IMHO.

A lot of fans have been turned off. More will be turned off with no playoff success and organization being status-quo. People will find other hobbies/places to spend their time/money.

It will go down as one of the worst rebuilds ever. They squandered a golden opportunity completely and the only thing that cements that failure is 3 more L's.

I hope we win this year. Not so confident of our chances next season.
