He’s made a bunch of mistakes but understandable when you’re learning on the job.
He’s certainly been better lately, not bringing in a goaltender at the deadline could become his biggest mistake of all.
We know he tried, trying isn’t good enough.
Problem was that there wasn't that much options this year. Who moved this year? Fleury, Wedgewood and Kahkonen. I as Finn, would say that I would have like Kahkonen, but he isn't proven and was bit costly for his resume. Would Fleury waive for us? I don't think so. Wedgewood? Wedgewood? Who, I don't know.

I think free agency was our chance, but was there much better options than Campbell? It was always a gamble and Mrazek was our choice.

Bottom line this is it in a nut shell .. my best guess 1 round win likely means he stays .. but a loss again for 6th time in round 1 means this CORE needs changing (not ancillary pieces) by a new GM
Personally I've been roped in yet again by optimism regarding this team. I like how they match up against Tampa and I really do think Tampa is losing some of their hunger coming off back to back cups. Leafs should hands down come out the more desperate team in that series but Vasi can be scary in the playoffs.

I'll let you in on a secret -- The Leafs have one of the best defenses in the league.

Over the 3 years Mrazek was in Carolina, Carolina's defensive results were tied for 15th in the league. This year, Leafs are the 3rd best team defensively.
I hope one day these obscure and abstract metrics that claim the Leafs are among the very best defensively actually lead to tanglible results and lead to the Leafs actually competing with the teams that are way ahead of them in GA / GP.

You’re right it wasn’t and it could have been an easy excuse to trade one. Time will tell if trading one or not was the right move.

He’s committed to the core 4 and I would like to see them reward him with some playoff success this year. If they are going to lose in the first round don’t no show please
As badly as he handled the contracts you have to give him credit for how has been able to handle the flat cap and improve the team after essentially tying his own hands.

The metrics aren't obscure at all, and pretty much every metric and statistical model says the same thing. Goals against are a result of defense and goaltending. I'm not sure why people find that so hard to understand.

The saddest part are people that just disappear when the Leafs are doing good, and only show up during the skids.

They're either trolls, or really miserable people. 100% people you'd never want to be around in real life.
The loss to Montreal really hurt the fan base in trusting them again. If they’re being trolls I don’t like that but I believe some are not trusting them till they show they can win a playoff round.

I’m all on board in believing them after being so cautious throughout the year. I’m ready to get hurt again lol.

Not anymore than most goaltenders in the league. Most goaltenders have a history of injuries. Andersen and Mrazek share similar injury histories for one. His current groin issue did start when he was with the Hurricanes in the pandemic bubble season though.

Should Waddell of the Hurricanes get fired for not foreseeing Andersen getting injured as well?

Blaming a GM for a player getting injured is really stretching the list to blame Dubas for.
Correct you can’t blame him for the injuries but you can hold him accountable for not reacting to them.

90% of the fanbase talked all year about how elite we were. Elite D, Elite G and Elite F.

Now we're saying we were as Elite as the Columbus f***ing Blue Jackets?

Yeah Leafs are having a real tough time competing.

There are 31 other teams in the league, there is always a way to make something happen.

Obviously he knew there was a need but decided against paying the price to fill the need.
If that holds the team back that has to be on him.

Tampa worries me the most in the Atlantic. I don't think they'll three-peat but I also see them squeezing out a round or two.

He wasn't injured before the deadline passed.

Leafs had Campbell, Mrazek, Woll and Kallgren.
Mrazek has been in and out of the lineup all year and when playing hasn’t been very good.

31 teams aren't trading away their goalies, let alone ones better than what we already had.

Don't hurt yourself reaching so hard to blame Dubas.

Sucks but those elite defensive teams have outed the Leafs 3 times in the playoffs in the Matthews era.

The Boston losses were excusable to a degree but that Columbus loss was terrible. But I'm optimistic this year, I think they can get it done.

What G was available, worth the price and fit the cap?

Maybe Kahkonen, but that was a Campbell like gamble and still costed a D that was rumored to cost 2x2nds or a late 1st.

It’s easy to blame him for inactivity, but it’s also extremely difficult to make those moves mid-season.

Being the sixth time is immaterial to whether Dubas stays or goes. He’s only been in charge for 2 playoff failures as it currently stands.

Without cap space, it's hard to find a better option than what the Leafs had at the time. Fleury was the only clear option that made sense but near impossible to make happen. Kase and Mrazek weren't on LTIR at the time to create space.
