Two games in, with no preseason, and this guy fancies himself as a comic.

Right back at ya:

He was available. Not Dubas type of player he's taller than 5'9" and weighs more than 170.

It looks like it's time to take the dogs out for a walk, and spend some time with higher IQ beings than the median of this forum. Sure, we could have traded Nylander for him, and massively overpaid him. The last sentence is just ignorant. (in the true meaning of the word)

Still think a few comments here are odd. The core four forwards hsve all played pretty well over the first two games. Matthews/Marner are only a matter of time before they light things up offensively.

They lost last night because their goalie had an off night and structurally the skaters aren't fully in season form yet. Its absurd to think 2 games into a season (a season with no warm up preseason games) that anyone can make any deep pronouncements about the state of the team

I mean, you don't give up on Marner, Nylander and Matthews as a core when they are that young... you just don't. You give it time, let them mature, and then adjust as necessary. But you give it time, and have patience. Acorn seeds don't grow into trees their first year.
Unfortunately, a lot of fans utilize supposedly given patience through past failure in Leaf history to justify a ridiculous amount of impatience in the very promising present, leading them to a desire for knee-jerk moves that would almost guarantee further failure.

Actually those of us whose sole purpose isn't to defend/apologize failure have a lot more to judge the Leafs/Dubas by than two games to start this year.

Last time I checked, the Leafs had no more or less of a pre-season than any other team has had and that includes the Senators that just schooled the Leafs last night.

You'll have to fall back on another excuse.

The fact that other teams also didnt have a preseason doesn't change the reality that some guys take a while to warm up.

This isn't a new thing, anyone who watches hockey sees this every season with some teams/players.

It's an excuse with absolutely no basis in fact at all.

And furthermore, it also holds absolutely no water when EVERY OTHER TEAM is going through the same thing.

The Senators haven't played a competitive game with their roster in 10 months and absolutely destroyed the Leafs last night in almost every way imaginable.

Dubie better hope Brodie can increase his skating speed ASAP or this may be his last rope ... I truly hope we are seeing a vet who is badly out of shape i heard he came into camp 15 pounds overweight so that may be it ... that's my only hope

Invisible game one, terrible game two...

He's gonna have to play a great game tonight to get back to net neutral and moving forward a much better effort overall defensively.

I don't know how Dubas' job is going to survive another botch job with the defence.

I think he is better he is just really badly out of shape and needs a couple weeks to get back into game shape

well... the core is essentially unchanged. We tinkered with the bottom folks.

considering the last 20 games of the regular season, an inability to beat Columbus in a series and that we have handed out 3 points in 2 games to opponents we are playing in a mini tournament.... I think there are some warning flags with the core team as assembled and it’s fair to discuss them.

Please.. if two MVP level pay guys can't find a way to play better than that, put up 0 points combined and a -4, and you want to blame the coach? Seriously, these two guys should be able to carry just about anyone. It's not like this is a sudden thing with these two either.. pretty much the same last playins... just play to score points, not to win... and half effort. We've seen Crosby carry around crap, and resulting in crap getting well paid... top players make others better.. they don't get pulled down that much, by one guy on their line. They need to be better.
If it's not on the coach why was Joe Thornton playing 18 minutes last night?

A quiet game on the back end is a bad thing? I thought we wanted d-men in the top four that limit their mistakes and can play sound, responsible defense against better competition.

the amount of criticism after game 2 is astounding

I know you can’t change the past, but in hindsight, I wonder if it would have made a difference if we had given bridge contracts to Nylander and Marner?

What we watched last night was almost identical to what we have watched the last 2-3 years just at a slower speed, so I hope they warm up soon.
Lol

Actually LL made headway and was show the door. One could argue that if Lou had remained the Leafs would have been far more successful.
How do you figure? Zaitsev Komarov Martin to 4 years, PM to 3 - I see no evidence we were on an upward trajectory at the end with him

Good point. Brodie was brought in to eat up important minutes on the right side: which is exactly what he's doing, especially during that first game

You don't have to make highlight reel plays every shift to do that and to have a good game.
