Dubas is an idiot. But the damage is done and the only thing we can hope for is he'll be fired within the next 2-3 years and let a real GM handle the next wave of contracts.
You mean like Lou Lam handing Zaistev $4.5Mx7years after playing one year in the NHL?Dubas is an idiot. But the damage is done and the only thing we can hope for is he'll be fired within the next 2-3 years and let a real GM handle the next wave of contracts.
Or Dubas who signed Ceci for the same money for 1 year? Yay instability! Zaitsev was fine. You mean like Lou Lam handing Zaistev $4.5Mx7years after playing one year in the NHL?
So it’s not just our current gm that’s that an idiot. It’s our previous gm as well. You mean like Lou Lam handing Zaistev $4.5Mx7years after playing one year in the NHL?

lmao scapegoating 101So it’s not just our current gm that’s that an idiot. It’s our previous gm as well.
Is that supposed to make us feel better about this franchise?

Youd rather the GM be fired than hope for a cup?
Yet strangely, those who claim Dubas is "inexperienced " frequently cite Lou as who we should have. You know, the guy responsible for Zaitsev, Marleau, not paying Marner's bonus, not signing Nylander and creating the whole RFA scenario? So Lou's mistakes make it OK for Dubas' ? Previous GM's poor performances should have nothing to do with Dubas'.

Urban legend. We were already far into negotiations with Marner on his ELC prior to Lou arriving. Everyone drafted ahead of Marner had already signed their ELC by the time Lou was hired (Strome, McDavid, and Eichel) with bonuses in-line with their slot. That was mainly Pridham, backed by Shanny and Dubas. If you don't believe me, just look at the signing dates and when Lou was hired. The Nylander thing is also a stretch, yes, we didn't sign him a year prior, but everything past may of 2018 is on Dubas.Yet strangely, those who claim Dubas is "inexperienced " frequently cite Lou as who we should have. So, let's compare the market where players generally get overpaid, to the market where they get underpaid as equals?Everyone is p*ssed when comparing Marner's contracts to the other RFA contracts that have been signed since Marner signed.
However, a comedian who participated in the Mrtyle/Siegel podcast put it in perspective. He was p*ssed that Marner got almost 11 million, until he remembered what 11 million used to look like - David Clarkson and Dave Bolland.
Ask yourself this: who do you think will be the most likely to live up to his AAV for the entire length of his contract:
Drew Doughty, 29, at 11 million until he is 37?
Eric Karlsson, 29, at 11. 5 million until he is 37?
Artemi Panarin, 27, at 11.642 until he is 34?
Mitch Marner, 22, at 10.893 million until he is 28?
Yep.
Like I think folks should be a bit irked by the Rantanen deal, but that suddenly doesnt mean the Leafs don't have Matthew's, Tavares, Marner, Nylander, Rielly, Barrie, Andersen ect all under the cap for the season. That this team isnt by far the best Leafs team of the salary cap era.
So it’s not just our current gm that’s that an idiot. It’s our previous gm as well.

Yeah, the last guy sucked so this guy sucking isn't so bad isn't an argument in Dubas favor, he still sucks at the end of the day

He wanted out. That should concern you more
He literally signed JT (which wasn't a hard), and had a pretty questionable 2018 draft outside of Sandin. The big-name picks were all Hunter and his staff, some of who remain. Marner was Hunter and Hofford primarily, there was no way they weren't taking him barring Eichel or McDavid slipping to us. The only big move win that can be solely attributed to Dubas is Tavares. His trade for Barrie looks good, and hopefully that's a win. Muzzin is a good add, but if we are still a first round team trading what we gave up is clearly not going to be worth it.This is just an indication Leaf fans have unrealistic expectations.
Not a single GM in this league is perfect...
Before the Matthews/Marner contract, I did not see any weakness in Dubas. All his moves were strong and he built this team into a contender with a fantastic pipeline. NOW after the Matthews/Marner contract, Dubas weakness in star RFA negotiations is his weakness. There are literally no other weakness for Dubas that I see.
The good news? We do not have any star RFAs left to sign for a long time.

You totally missed the point. Let's compare price with value. So, let's compare the market where players generally get overpaid, to the market where they get underpaid as equals?
Bettman probably slipped him some cash in his Swiss account to destroy the Leafs from the inside. Knowing Bettman he'd have a stroke if the Leafs (or any Canadian team) wins the cup.I want Dubas INVESTIGATED!!!
How DARE he do this to us.
How Dare he!!!!
These overpayments aren’t just incompetence at this point. It’s clearly more than that. INVESTIGATE him.
How DARE he.
This team has no heart to win a cup. Charmin soft.Youd rather the GM be fired than hope for a cup?
AgreedThat Rantanen deal does not look good on Dubas. Not at all.
