Would love to see some drama. See a mid tier team sign him to an offer sheet. Get it done!
id like to see any team offer sheet any player. we never see it any more or at least not enough. isnt it collusion on part of the owners ?

If kucherov (considering tampa's cap situation) doesn't get an OS, it's a dead concept.

Not really. As good as kucherov is, he's not worth four 1sts. And TB wouldn't have a hard time matching lower tier offers.

Well, according to General Fanager, there's like 7 teams with 7M or more in capspace, and another three with 6M+.

Of those 10 teams, four have important unsigned RFA's of their own (Anaheim, Winnipeg, Calgary and Buffao)

Another one is the Edmonton Oilers, who will have some serious cap crunch at some point (and who'll have to give Draisaitl a significant raise for next season). Another is Ottawa, who are probably already over budget.

Four teams are left : Hurricanes (possibly already over budget, might have a high pick in 2017), Devils (ditto), Panthers (seems like a candidate, budget?), Predators (ditto, and only 6M capspace).

Not to mention Kucherov probably wouldn't accept them to begin with.

If any team were in a position to put in an offer on Kucherov, I agree that the Panthers and Preds seem like the best fits. Even with the expansion draft looming, the Panthers could still realistically protect Kucherov, along with Barkov, Trocheck, Huberdeau, Smith, Bjugstad, and Jokinen, at forward, and Ekblad, Yandle, and Demers, on defense. Depending on how many defensemen they opt to protect, offer sheeting Kucherov might be more of a risk for the Predators.

Would TB be able to handle a offer sheet of 6 years @ 7,8M? That would only cost the team offereing 2 1sts, a 2nd and a 3rd.

Borderline, but I'm thinking we bite the bullet and match. It would probably cost us jason garrison though.

The real threat of offer sheets might come next year. If a team sheets johnson, for instance, before palat is signed.

If I'm in Tampa's shoes I try to send Callahan packing. I mean his NMC will screw them during the expansion draft, and he's arguably on one of the worst contracts in the league with his current production.

Maybe they can get him to waive his NMC to go to NJ and package him with a 1st rounder. I don't see the Devils sending anything back. Hell, if we didn't have infinite cap room I wouldn't even do it, but there's really no way we won't have the space for his contract so why not pick up a late 1st.

On a different note, I'd love to see the Devils offer sheet Kucherov.

That may be a little overdramatic saying he has one of the worst contracts in the league but anyway. Callahan playing out his contract is most likely going to happen. A few reasons for that. He has a full NMC will not waive and why the **** should he? Got traded from the Rangers because that is what he wanted was not even money. A buy out would be a disaster, his contract is not buy out friendly, especially if Filppula's contract is bought out next year which is a strong possibility. He was already on the trade market this off season but no takers.

If a team like the Devils ever got Callahan at some salary retained by Tampa would be a huge steal for them or any team and especially if he gets back to a 50 point season which is a strong possibility since he was hurt most of last year . Moving Callahan in the next two years will cost some severe handicap and plus there is no one ready to take on his role on that level.

They could shed enough for this season to match that. The problem comes next summer. There will be a mundo shake-up next summer.

If I'm Florida I'd absolutely try to offer sheet Kucherov, I think he's the real deal and they have cap space with Barkov, Bjugstad, Ekblad, Luongo, Yandle all already signed longterm, and I don't think they'll have a high pivk at all.

Honestly, I'd try to OS him as well if I was New Jersey. Having Kuch, Hall and Schneider as your core is a great start, omly risk is they may have a high pick this year.

NJ would be insane to try that. They need much more than Kuch to compete.

I know it's inter-division but could Pacioretty + for Kucherov work? Patches is signed for another 3 years at a 4.5 caphit

I would offer Pacioretty and Habs 1st in 2017 for Kucherov. Main point being Patches and Kucherov would be the big pieces moving.

Patches is 28, so much older, but he is a consistent 30 plus goal scorer with a $4.5M contract for the next 3 years. I think Kucherov is the better offensive player and much younger, but TB would get a sniper signed to a very friendly contract. Patches isn't a guy who generates his offense from speed or physical play so he should be able to keep scoring for a long time to come.

Oilers should really try and grab Kucherov. Dangerous around the net where he can get the rebounds and passes from McDavid.

It is easy to say this team or that team should go get someone . It is totally different to actually go out and try to get a player from a team that doesn't want to lose that player . See the cost of Larsson ? That is what it takes to get a team to move a player they want to keep " a massive over payment " So please tell who the Lighting would trade him for on the Oilers that fits into their cap space ? Draisaitl ? I am sure the Oilers will keep him . Plus if the Oilers are spending assets it should be for a RHD that is a PM PPQB .

Oilers should be adding all the RHD available and some forwards that can score goals and still play a responsible 2 way game while keeping cap space for bonuses

But I am not Peter Pan and the Oilers don't player in never never land

I wouldn't do such thing, because the Habs would go from having Pacioretty to having nothing.
