Alluckks- Appreciated!

I think Tim Hunter could be a solid option. Those type of guys get a lot of respect by today's players, they can't understand how someone could play as an enforcer for 15 years in the NHL... A lot of experience. Can't say that I am blown away by the coaches he has worked with (Ron Wilson mainly) and the result of those NHL teams. But you are ultimately your own man.

Fits JD's preference for Western Canadian type of hockey, I also like Hunter's international experience. I think also participating in those tournaments can widen your horizon, you get to work with many very good people. Like each U20 national team has a staff of like 10 very experienced guys and girls, video scouts, trainers etc. You get a bit of a crash course from them and so forth.

Kris Knoblauch was an assistent for him for one U20 national team, who knows, might join as an associated coach in HFD too if he can't get another gig.

Getting Zubov to coach HFD would certainly help the transition for Rykov! ;)

A long shot name, but he has done it well in Russia and has a ton of experience. Not a ton of those guys from that generation that are involved in coaching. Big move for him though from Sochi to HFD, bet he has family etc though...

I like Marty St Louis as an option too. MSL and Zubov splitting the duties as associate coaches.

Another long shot name — Dan Hinote. First ever player drafted out of West Point. Aborted his training for the FBI to pursue a NHL career. Drury of course knows him well from Colorado but head also a coach in Columbus during a long stretch of JDs time there. He is now with the USNDP program. I know he is a really likeable and bright guy.

But maybe more of an assistant coach candidate than HC material?

I wouldn’t mind Adam Foote either in some capacity. Always had a great hockey mind.

Do you guys think that JD have any relationship with James Patrick? It struck me that both JD and Drury should have played with James Patrick — but JD retired the season before JP made his debut with the Rangers.

Always thought that JP didn’t seem to be the most sympathetic guy around, but he checks a lot of boxes. Old ranger. Western Canada guys. Played with Drury and got a NYR relationship with JD. JP coached with Ruff in Dallas.

Tim hunter is an interesting name. he has the resume and has had success with young players and clearly is highly respected as he's coached team canada. and his style probably meshes nicely with the attitude/mindset that david quinn is looking to create in ny

but while that would be a good option for head coach i'm more interested in the rest of the staff. the staff should include 3 assistant coaches. hartford needs a full-time goalie coach, they need a guy that specializes in developing forwards and a guy that specializes in developing defensemen...

and by a guy that coaches the d, I don't mean lindy ruff deciding who goes on the ice for a line change, like actually teaching the young guys how to play...we are going to hopefully lots of assets in hartford that will need to be developed...

this really doesn't get enough attention and thats mainly cause we don't really know the names to discuss...but in many ways this is one of the most important parts of the rebuild. the top picks and young players get the attention, but fixing hartford is how you fix the organization and build a team that can win year after year

Jeep was the first jersey I ever got.

He would be a great choice for the Chelsea Highliners or West Side Panhandlers.

Madden have one of the better hockey quotes I've heard. He was asked what his biggest strength is as a hockey player and said that its that he have woken up feeling really miserable every morning for as long as he can remember or something like that. You often play your best hockey when you are really jaundiced. That was his biggest strength as a hockey player, it seemed like he just played to make sure nobody else had fun on the ice. ;)

What has MSL done as a coach to deserve this job?
He’s been coaching his kids since he retired, and he was basically just a powerplay coach for half the season in Columbus, might not be a lot, but it’s something and he’s just saying he should be an assistant. And I have a vague recollection of a report he was give an open offer for a coaching job in Hartford when/before McCambridge was hired

Edit:
4. The Rangers talked to Marty St. Louis about taking over the AHL Wolf Pack upon his retirement, The Post has learned, but the time wasn’t right for the winger. Had he gone to Hartford, St. Louis would be a leading contender for the job in New York. He’s likely on the radar for an assistant’s spot if he wants it.

I think it's only a matter of time before MSL is involved in some capacity. Him and Drury running things would be nice for a few years.

Yeah, I certainly wouldn't mind if we brought in a little experience from being an elite player to our coaching staff in some capacity. There have been a few instances over the last decade when I think that we have had players that could do a lot better in some areas but that haven't developed at all. Its hard to know if MSL would contribute in that area, but I think its closer at hand for him to take this up with certain players. I think he better will see the growth potential in these kids, give them more tips on how to be effective offensively. Moreso than Ulfie, Beuke, JJ Daignault and co at least...

Its to late now, but take Marc Staal's slapper and work offensively form the blueline. Staal has 1-2 goals per season. He has no excuse whatsoever to not be at least an OK threat from the blueline. He is a big strong Canadian kid who isn't born without talent. He should be able to collect a pass and get off a good shot faster than he does. The only reason he sucks so much from the blueline and in is that he hasn't paid any attention to that part of the game for a long time. Nobody have pushed him, nobody have recognized that he has potential to grow there. I think its more likely that the top talents got an eye for that and don't take flaws in certain areas for granted.

Uncle Larry checks in with JD update that includes focus on Hartford and player development. Some good stuff here that we will all welcome. Also a bone about possible summer FA activity. Rangers won’t be shy.

This might be one of the best news i've heard all offseason. A MUST read for everyone here. I for one am absolutely thrilled after reading this. JD already proving what needs to be done.

Our AHL team won't be a joke anymore. Bring in coaches and vets with winning attitudes who are there to communicate and to help kids reach their full potentials to make the NHL. YES YES YES.
