Over under how many days it is before Krav refuses to play in Vancouver? It’s clear the guy wants to go back to Russia.

Okay follow me on this

I will be completely shocked if VAN is not the 3rd party team that retains 25% on Kane.

By moving Kravtsov out today, and sending down Jake tomorrow after he clears, the Rangers can acquire Kane on Wednesday instead of Friday.

Toronto paid a 4th round pick to MIN to retain $1.875 million on the ROR trade.

The price based on that for a team retaining $2.625 on Kane should then roughly be a 3rd round pick.

Instead of sending a 3rd to Vancouver the Rangers sent Kravtsov.

We'll see if I'm right when the full deal is announced but this a precursor move. It's really hard for me to believe that Kravtsov had exactly 0 value.

If VAN retains 25% for "future considerations" or something super small come the full announcement of the official deal (likely Wednesday) then we can infer that Kravtsov's value was actually around a 3rd round pick.

Thats one way to look at it.

I actually have no problem with the way that it played out. If he didn't suck and was a top 9 level player then you have that on a cheap contract.

He blew and they didn't. Glad hes no longer our problem.

I don't agree that he blew. He underachieved but some of that is on the team as well for not putting him in a spot to develop.

I'm chalking this whole scenario up as another team miss on a young player so I don't expect the arguing about it is going to end.

Finding out Duguay is dating Sarah Palin is easily the craziest news I’ll hear today.

I've been in the camp to keep Kravtsov around. If that's the return, keep him.

Both sides are at fault for him not panning out; if they developed him properly and if he had the work ethic to get better, the NYR wouldn't be scrambling to trade for Patrick Kane (maybe not even would've had to trade for Tarasenko. It's likely for the best that the team moved on.

It's a shame; he has the talent/skill, but it's being wasted.

It's not a worthwhile return for the player that's still in there somewhere.

But the Rangers have gone all in on this Kane situation. They are each tired of each other and they are willing to take an underwhelming return just for cap space at a deadline.

Sad outcome but when the coach didn't have any time for the player this year despite Drury doing everything he could to bring him back on good terms, that was all she wrote.

Kravstov and Lias really amounted to absolutely nothing lol.

Draft is a crapshoot and 7th and 9th picks aren’t immune but god damn lol.

Really poor job by the Rangers entering a rebuild.

That's the return? you kidding me?

could have just waived him... but it's almost as Drury reads the boards

At least Lias returned Cuylle...

Like I said, this is the "we know you already have a deal worked out for Kane and either have to waive Kravtsov or trade him for peanuts."

His value certainly wasn't high, not like you could have gotten a first for him, but they would have done better except everyone knows the Rangers have their backs to the wall if they want Kane.

Which they do.

Vancouver has the spots, so that he plays.
Also, there is no Indication whatsoever that VK wants to go back to russia lol
Well he apparently was considering the KHL and he’s tried already to pull the KHL card!

This is one of the reasons I never understand the logic of "we have two 1st round picks. We can blow one on a rental." Imagine if we'd given away the Chytil pick in 2017. Or the K'AM and Lundkvist picks in 2018. Or imagine if we had a second 1st in 2013. The importance of a backup 1st round pick can be massive.

or imagine we keep our picks and draft another Lias and Kravtsov

Lias was at least willing to report to the AHL, was nearly 2 years younger than Krav, was a center (more valuable position), and was traded to his daddy's team. There was no such perfect storm for Kravtsov, unfortunately.

It's a possibility, but the odds of blowing two picks are lower than the odds of blowing one (as seen by the fact that, as I posted, our "backup" picks in 2017 and 2018 are core players, while the primary picks were total busts, and if we literally had ANY other pick in round 1 of 2013, it was almost impossible to miss a second time). I'm not on the "never trade a 1st for a rental" side--I was mainly talking about the attitude seen by some folks on here that if we have a spare 1st and we are anywhere north of average that season, we HAVE to trade the spare to beef up the team in some way. I also feel like teams tend to get more value relative to cost by picking up guys like Vatrano (last year) or Lafferty than they get from bigger moves like Tarasenko or Kane or (for that matter) Copp last year.
