Too many posters in here thinking this trade reflects the player’s ability and talent level rather than the situation. He wouldn’t have been traded for a price like this if Kane wasn’t coming in, and he was only worth a price like this because of a much higher than normal chance he bolts back to Russia.

Thing people are missing is most teams wanted to do struggling nhl player for player, nyr needs the cap number gone right now more than it needs a struggling reclamation project. Lockwood can be a bottom six guy in the NHL. He's not going to be an impact player. The biggest win for the Rangers in this trade is clearing the cap allocation

He wouldn't have been traded for a price like this if anyone wanted him. 31 teams could have got him and nobody wanted to give them more than a 7th.

we all know hes going to light it up with kuzmenko somehow

I was going to say he's going to a team that plays all offense and no defense (ok this was true pre-Tocchet), but he just left a team that doesn't play offense OR defense so at least his chances to get better numbers should improve on the West coast.

Drury waited too long and basically traded him for nothing. To think, Julien Gauthier at least brought back a decent 4th liner. Should have traded him last year for a 2nd or 3rd as it was rumored.

This trade package sounds like what we would get back in exchange for Johnny Brodzinski or Ben Harpur.

Right. Because he’s a flight risk, which has nothing to do with what any GM thinks of his chances to be a good player based on him as a player.
