Whats Boston got to do with the 72 tourney. Montreall, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver were the hosts
Fair question.

Team Canada 72 was very Boston Strong. Harry Sinden head coach. Defending Cup champs. Awrey, Cashman, and Johnston. Orr's absence loomed large from start to finish. Phil Espsito puts on what many have said is the greatest individual series performance ever.

Jack Slater had posted some newsclip here about how into the Summit Series Boston fans tuned in big-time. I dig a little based on the article he shared, which is below.

It seems likely the bar hopper went out and did his survey during Game 4 in Vancouver, a Friday, since the Games had been suspended temporarily.

1. At the time, the beloved Red Sox were playing the Yankees and in a 4-way pennant race with 20 games to go.
2. Over in Munich, the Summer Olympics had just resumed after competitions were suspended in the aftermath of the terrorist attack. Looking at the events held that Friday, a lot of big-ticket Olympic events were underway.

So, the bar-hopper found that 21 out of 29 Boston bars are watching the Summit Series, v. 8 for the Rsd Sox-Yankees and 1 for the 1972 Summer Olympics.

Boston definitely 'got' the Summit Series. That's why I think it is very fitting that they are involved in the latest bestie.

Someone want to explain how Hughes is allowed back unless another defensemen defensemen is taking a fall for him to get in?

He's not technically allowed back yet, he's on standby in case they have another injury, like Harley was.

That said, one of the US's lesser used D men coming down with an "injury" before Thursday will be the least surprising hockey development of the century.

I did not know that McAvoy checked into a Boston hospital.

Maybe they should let Hughes play so we don't all go all "if" after Thursday.

Too many injuries for the U.S. McAvoy is out. The Tkachuk brothers are injured. Besides, I made a wager with my friends. U.S. would win the game in Montreal and Canada would win the championship game. You knew both teams were getting to the final. Canada wins.

Healthy line up i would have gone with USA but with the rumors of MacAvoy and both Tkachuk not playing ill go with Canada

McAvoy is out. The Tkachuk brothers will play. Their health is an issue.

I hope you're right. :)

MY heart wants Canada to win, but in reality, I think USA prevails due to goaltending. At any rate, I just will have to pray we get the 2019 playoffs Binnington.

One thing is certain. If Canada loses, and it's because of goaltending, the public is going to demand a major overhaul of Hockey Canada.

Goaltending is always a wild card. Sure, we have the advantage over Canada on paper, but in a single game, you just never know what you're going to get. There's also Hellebuyck's track record of not necessarily being able to step it up in a big situation all too often. Binnington has at least done that before, albeit 6 years ago. So while I think that gives us an edge just in terms of chances, but in that department, to me that gets cancelled out by Canada having superior top-end talent. Not by much I would say, but it's still there. That leaves the blue line. Very slight advantage to us. Losing McAvoy is a big blow to defense in terms of disrupting Canada's attack. All that said and thought out, I think it's a wash, which I pretty much thought as well before voting in the poll, which I did before the news that McAvoy wouldn't be able to play.

So... who did I vote for in the poll? USA of course, because I'm American and therefore biased. :P

Can't fault you for being honest.

I can’t see two straight losses but I dunno. The goaltending matchup is a pretty big mismatch. Canada will need to play out of their minds. Only chance I see Canada here is with a jump early on. If they score the first two goals they have a chance. I’m gonna say Canada comes out flying to start and squeaks out a win.

Canadian fan here. USA is the favourite based on their goaltending advantage, and it's a potentially big one.

But the odds should be 60/40, or similar, no more. These teams are both capable....man it's actually nice to watch such hockey after such a long absence, and the players, wow, they are obviously feeling it too.

It is fantastics for us fans no matter which way it goes. And kudos to Sweden and Finland, regarded as also-rans by analysis, they were not far off from being in the Finals themselves, I hope they want to repeat the process.
