The Hunt and Gauthier over Kravtsov narrative is tired and disingenuous.

Kravtsov is a top-six type of player who could probably fit a balanced third line as well. He is definitely not a 4th line player, nor would he benefit from playing Hunt’s minutes, nor does he fit the identity that Gallant is building with that bottom six (which we’ve all liked - it’s our top six being invisible that’s the problem).

Hunt is averaging 9 minutes a night with Rooney and Reaves. If you give Kravtsov his spot, do you think that’s the right place for him to play? 9 minutes with Ryan Reaves? Gauthier only got into the lineup because of an injury. Is that where Kravtsov should be? In the press box until there’s an injury? If he’d accepted his assignment to Hartford he could be called up for injuries JUST LIKE McKegg has been today, but would also get games and significant minutes in, in the interim. In other words, the situation that would be best for him developmentally.

Hunt and Gauthier did not take Kravtsov’s roster spot. Hunt is the 12th forward, Gauthier is the 13th. Kravtsov needed to be in the top nine, or otherwise in the AHL as the first call up. The players who beat Kravtsov for a roster spot were:

Panarin
Zibanejad
Strome
Kreider
Kakko
Lafreniere
Chytil
Goodrow
Blais

If Kravtsov had played well enough to convincingly push Blais to the 4th line, Blais could have bumped Hunt out of the lineup, but no one could honestly say Kravtsov made a bigger impact than Blais in preseason, nor would the lineup feel the same without Blais getting the minutes he does.

Its obvious he is not suited for a bottom 6 role on a Gallant team. So unless he decides to become a more 200 ft player, or there is an injury in the top six, there is no spot for him on this team.

The other aspect of this that's strange to me is the Rangers just cleaned house completely. If he feels the organization misled him or made promises that weren't lived up to than shouldn't that grudge be held against the Gorton/Quinn regime and not against Drury/Gallant? Couldn't he at least give the new regime the benefit of the doubt for a few months before taking this stance?

It's just disappointing because from what I've seen out of this forward corps the first two games there are going to be more than enough opportunities to get him into the lineup even in a top six position. TBH, if it weren't for this whole dispute I'd probably be calling for Gallant to give him Laf's spot right now.

I read a comment on one of these threads that he was butting heads with Drury in Hartford a the hartford GM last season and, the exit interview with Drury's NHL Management team last season was contentious before the summer break.

Seems there is friction with two Management groups and Kravtsov to date, not just Davidson/Gorts/Quinn.

ironic that one of the worries of having him on the 4th line is not playing enough, yet now he's not playing at all.

I'd be more worried about him doing the same thing if he was given a 4th line spot

He wants a top six spot, believes he deserves one, is unhappy he hasn't gotten one.
Giving him a 4th line spot or 13th F spot and not expecting him to still be pissed seems to be missing a major reason why there's an issue right now

He is crafting a performance, he takes cues from Elizabethan theatre but with a veneer of the early wave of modernist playwrites, like if you’ve ever dived into Anton Chekhov’s early works some of Kravtsov’s plays will start making a little more sense.

Things would be better if he took a page from Olenka in Chekhov's "The Darling" (taking on the personality and drive of whoever she was with--so VK would be acting just like the guys on the roster re: work ethic and drive). Unfortunately, he seems to be stuck in that Elizabethan theatre mode that you mention, as he is currently exiting, pursued by a bear (Drury). :)

Not too many 21 year old players are playing top 6 minutes in the NHL. They gotta be elite players. One step at a time. You can't rush people.

Tell that to Kravstov. Maybe there is some difficulty with him understanding the English language.

Kravtsov might have the best English of any Russian player in the NHL. Especially for someone fresh off the boat

Around the same time, the Rangers were making changes within their scouting department. Former director of European scouting Nick Bobrov was fired by Drury in May, with one source pointing to his role in the mishandling of Kravtsov and Lias Andersson, the No. 7 overall pick in the 2017 draft. Andersson also requested a trade after being demoted to AHL Hartford in 2019, with some stark similarities between the disappointing outcomes for two top-10 picks who were supposed to be core pieces in the Rangers' rebuild.

There is belief that both Andersson and Kravtsov were given false hope about how quickly they'd play in their desired spots in the NHL lineup. That communication issue may have played a part in Bobrov's dismissal.

Drury wants it to be clear that roles must be earned, not gifted based on draft status. But should he have known that not including Kravtsov on the opening night roster would cause this rift? And if so, should he have dealt him sooner?

Based on that article, Kravtsov misunderstood the signals. They were clearing a path for him and he failed to make it stick. Unless you consistently prove you are a top player, you don't get the benefit of the doubt and have to prove you are worthy of the spot. Definitely a failure on both sides to clearly communicate their understanding of the situation.

Hate to say it bc I love Krav, but after the game against the Stars, I totally understand why he didnt make the team. He doesn't quite fit anywhere yet. He needs time to develop into a true top 6 RW. He does not fit in a bottom 6 role for this team.Crazy part is, there is a spot for him in the top 6 if he can prove himself. I think NYR is an ideal location for him. Kid needs to bare down and prove himself.

...The two guys who got the most time in preseason playing on that 3rd line wing...weren't in competition for that 3rd line wing spot? How does that make ANY sense to you? One of them got sent down to the AHL and the other one started the season on that 3rd line wing spot. Who was Kravtsov competing against if not the guy who also played that role in pre-season and started the regular season playing that role?
I can't make it any more clearer. You just can't see your hand in front of your face can you? Blais moved up because Kravy got injured. Prior to that, Blais was on the 4th line. That's what happens when a player gets injured. He didn't win the spot, he moved up due to injury. And for you to not understand this, puts into question your ability to reason and think clearly. Kravy also got some shifts on the first line before he got injured. Kravy and Blais clearly had separate roles on this team, and for you to lump them fighting for the same spot is ridiculous.

One other thing you might not be aware of is that,... The Rangers chose to carry only 13 forwards instead of the typical 14 most clubs carry entering the season. So Kravy was very much in direct competition for a spot on the roster over the 8th defensemen, which happens to be Hajek. And why exactly? Was/is Hajek gonna get icetime? You damn well know Kravy would have!

Your logic on this matter is so skewed, it doesn't makes sense for this conversation to go any further.

Is Kravtsov best served by playing fourth line minutes? Hypotheticals like this only emphasizes how warped your logic is, I'm sorry to say.

This team has been weakened by this turn of events. We are weak on the right side due to this. This Canadian and west coast stretch coming up will be a disaster. Out of the first 12 games, how many do you think we might win with this glaring weakness?

Could have sold him AHL with 'We need you to go down to learn how to play center'.
