Or you have the balls to make the right move in the short and long term. Yeah, you're probably just getting another lottery ticket, but boy howdy, this is the year to do it.

Just need Fantilli to pull a Lindros and say he'll only go to New York. Pick up a falling Michkov with the team's own 1st and you have a dynasty for the next 15 years.
The problem is that it’s undeniable it’s an organizational issue at this point. Whatever they’re telling this kids it’s not working. I don’t know the message but if it doesn’t get corrected, it doesn’t matter if we bring in a clone of Gretzky, it’s goin to be the same result.

Nepotism from an organization that’s won 1 cup since hitler and Stalin were duking it out

Just comparing ice time distribution in tonight's game you can immediately see what one of GG's fundamental flaws is. He thinks that if you're playing on his first power play unit that you must obviously be better at everything than all the other players that aren't on the first power play unit. So you end up with players like Zibanejad, Kreider and Panarin all around 22 minutes total with 5 minutes of PP time.

Contrast that with how Seattle uses a player like Eberle who, while really good at certain things like OT and PP, doesn't need to be on the ice for 22 minutes a night in total. 4 minutes of PP time but only 15:28 total ice time. Then you have a young player like Beniers getting 17 minutes and a player like Gourde getting 18 minutes total with no PP time.

We don't deploy our players in a manner that's designed to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. It's like our coaching staff just looks at raw box score stat lines without taking into account game state (5v4, 5v5).
This is an excellent post

He can improve his skating and he's 20. He was the 1OA for a reason. He was pretty good last half of last year and in the playoffs. He has regressed somewhat this year but some of the takes here are trash.
Ok, I don't want to bury the kid yet & label him a bust, but he's literally showing nothing out there. He's either invisible or dumping the puck in from center ice, or passing the puck back to the point...to Libor Hajek of all people. That's literally all he does.

It is quite funny how we are locked into Ziba and Bread but they are atrocious 5v5 together. Sure I'm not a fan of the ides of them being together so teams can't assign 1 shutdown assignment. But we can't even put them together to get a boost. It's like trying to stick Gomez with Jagr and realizing oh shot that doesn't work.

Fox is our only d that can make an outlet pass right now. Everyone has been treating the puck like a grenade and we are too slow to be a dump and chase team. Our decisions with the puck make no sense and they do nothing to open time and space for themselves. This team has mentally regressed.

I don't understand any of these hot takes where we're calling out a player, a young kid, or anyone. The issue is so obviously systemic. We got so many bad habits out there it's hard to watch. Igor is forced to stand on his head for most of the game. We don't take the body in front of our own net. Just waving sticks around. The middle of the ice in our own zone is just so soft. We manage the puck very poorly 5v5. We don't seem to win any battles 5v5 in front of the other teams net. Every play goes to the outside. We're getting nothing done at 5v5 at all in the o zone because we're too busy playing like the harlem globetrotters. We take mulitple o zone penalties. We look like the fat bloated Rangers before Renney and then Torts. Just everyone out here trying to coast through the regular season. Not one single line out there consistently doing the little things you need to do to win games. This team needs a major reset. Or they need to be broken up. They're sleep walking through the season right now. It's hard to find a team with this much skill that plays a more frustrating, lazy game. It's not just that teams are outright skating circles around them at 5v5 for periods at a time, it's just the level of awareness, attention to detail is constantly creeping into their game. It's clear whatever Gallant and staff are doing is not getting through.

And if Gallant comes out and starts talking about travel or injuries or whatever, it'll be real frustrating.
Gallant and staff are past the best before date by a huge margin. Their approach may have been cool around 1534 AD.

I don't know what the stats are now but we've been a good team 5 on 5 all season with a shitty shooting percentage and goaltending. The idea that we don't get chances 5 on 5 is bullshit. They're not converting. This game was a bad one but the idea that the team gets outplayed 5 on 5 every game is patently false. I can count the amount of times that actually happened all year on one hand.

We at least have the personnel to be top-10 in the league. We're bottom 10 right now.
I don't actually believe that we do. We're totally unbalanced & relied on the kids taking a massive leap this season in order to remain competitive.

Instead we're reliant on Julien Gauthier to draw penalties & Adam Fox to create something on the power play when the rest of the team stands around watching.

Some of you guys on this board need to be bitch slapped

Sure let’s call out laf for being a bust when kreider floats around the ice and get 5 MINUTES of PP time

@Chaels Arms said it best. Our usage is f***ing pathetic

Everyone on here up in arms that beniers is a stud, omg he’d look so good for the rangers. He would be getting 13 minutes a night. Playing ZERO powerplay. So we’d be right where we are now

Fun fact laf sets up Kakko for the breakaway. If Kakko finishes all you idiots are out here saying what a beautiful set up

I really have to read posts saying trade laf or I just don’t see him being good. But yet panarin skates for being horrible, kreider gets away with doing absolutely nothing

Being successful in the nhl is all about opportunity. The rangers are consistently not giving the opportunities to the right players. Play laf for 18 minutes a night. Okay Kakko for 18 minutes.

Panarin, Zib, Kreider, Kakko, Trocheck is a decent top-5. Fox, Lindgren, Miller, Trouba, is an excellent top 4. Igor is the best in the world. To me, that's enough to say we should be a very good team. One of the best in the league? Not at all. But a hell of a lot better than we are right now.

There is nothing wrong with playing your best forwards more minutes especially with the PP time they get.

Problem is how many games they wither away for a period or two.

They either come out flying, or finish strong, but they have not consistently put a 60 minute effort.

We're 15th in points percentage and are underperforming the underlying numbers. So what basis are you using?
Fair point. Maybe I'm being hyperbolic. But take away the first couple weeks of the season, are our underlying numbers still good then? My impression has been we've played so many games where we've done absolutely nothing 5-on-5, just relying on the PP and Igor to win us games (like last season).

Very much happy to be proven wrong. It's just how things have seemed to me lately.

The 60 minute effort cliche is just that. They're in the NHL every team pushes back. Now the last two games they had at least one really bad period. But overall our underlying numbers are good. Much better than last year.

I don't know what is going on but he is a better player than he has shown so far this year. I'm not giving up on the kid.

I was traveling, got in late and only saw the OT...I wish my flight had been delayed.

I'm usually pretty lenient with coaches and am not fast to question their intelligence but f***, I don't know what Gallant was thinking.

5:00 Gallant: "I'm playing the kids 20 minutes tonight NO MATTER WHAT!"

5:01 - 7:07 Rangers fans: "OMG THIS IS AWESOME, PLAY THE KIDS AND WE'LL LIVE WITH THE RESULTS! THE FUTURE IS SO BRIGHT!"

7:08 Puck drop

7:10 Fluky as hell goal against

7:11 Rangers fans: "I'm done, good night. Gallant better be gone by the morning."

This is true. It's just hard to carry the play for 60 minutes, especially against good teams. They still need to start putting some wins together.
