Matty Beniers looked really impressive tonight. It's amazing how other teams just seem to get young forwards right and we don't.

Vesey and Goodrow both with significantly more minutes than Laf, Chytil or Kakko.

This might be the season where we do all the usual Rongos things like overrelying on veterans that aren't quite as good as the organization thinks they are except this time Igor doesn't go full Hasek mode and let us get away with it.

I don't understand any of these hot takes where we're calling out a player, a young kid, or anyone. The issue is so obviously systemic. We got so many bad habits out there it's hard to watch. Igor is forced to stand on his head for most of the game. We don't take the body in front of our own net. Just waving sticks around. The middle of the ice in our own zone is just so soft. We manage the puck very poorly 5v5. We don't seem to win any battles 5v5 in front of the other teams net. Every play goes to the outside. We're getting nothing done at 5v5 at all in the o zone because we're too busy playing like the harlem globetrotters. We take mulitple o zone penalties. We look like the fat bloated Rangers before Renney and then Torts. Just everyone out here trying to coast through the regular season. Not one single line out there consistently doing the little things you need to do to win games. This team needs a major reset. Or they need to be broken up. They're sleep walking through the season right now. It's hard to find a team with this much skill that plays a more frustrating, lazy game. It's not just that teams are outright skating circles around them at 5v5 for periods at a time, it's just the level of awareness, attention to detail is constantly creeping into their game. It's clear whatever Gallant and staff are doing is not getting through.

And if Gallant comes out and starts talking about travel or injuries or whatever, it'll be real frustrating.

I'd like to see Panarin moved away from Trocheck for a while, 'promote' Chytil.

Something like (depending on health)
Kreider-Mika-Kakko
Panarin-Chytil-Krav/Vesey
Laf-Trocheck-Vesey/Goat
Blaid-Goodrow-Goat/Carpenter

In a perfect world, this would happen in the next 24 hours:

Just comparing ice time distribution in tonight's game you can immediately see what one of GG's fundamental flaws is. He thinks that if you're playing on his first power play unit that you must obviously be better at everything than all the other players that aren't on the first power play unit. So you end up with players like Zibanejad, Kreider and Panarin all around 22 minutes total with 5 minutes of PP time.

Contrast that with how Seattle uses a player like Eberle who, while really good at certain things like OT and PP, doesn't need to be on the ice for 22 minutes a night in total. 4 minutes of PP time but only 15:28 total ice time. Then you have a young player like Beniers getting 17 minutes and a player like Gourde getting 18 minutes total with no PP time.

We don't deploy our players in a manner that's designed to maximize their strengths and minimize their weaknesses. It's like our coaching staff just looks at raw box score stat lines without taking into account game state (5v4, 5v5).
