How are you proven right? It's game 5 of the season. Yes he had a bad goal against Carolina and two that he should've had against Detroit. Let's evaluate him based on an entire season before we start declaring it a disaster.

Dorion absolutely needed to replace Talbot. I don't think Forsberg and Sogaard would've been enough to make the post season. Korpisalo was the best available UFA goalie on the market. Again, let's evaluate him based on the entire season... not 5 games in.
I think the disconnect here is that a lot of people don't think it's prudent to sign the guy who looks at the time like the best goaltender on the UFA market. That hasn't often worked out well.

You’re right I will evaluate later. He could bounce back. But I don’t think we need to wait a full season lol.

We’ll time will tell if he was the best UFA available. He was perceived to be the best available but again how can you declare that right away?

Ottawa is kind of a goalie graveyard, but we should exercise some patience and caution when a new goalie comes to play in a new system.

Forsberg is playing really well, fortunately, while Korpisalo keeps working to get better acclimated with the skaters in front of him.

The sooner we get Zub back, the better for our whole team, especially our goalies.

The frustrating thing about acquisitions like this is that it’s just so obvious. He never had a good year before last season and we felt like that deserved 5 year term. Player agents must love Dorion.

Well Murray had a .899 save percentage the year before Dorion gave him that monster contract. Ar least he tried something different this time!

This was my least favorite decision of the summer and I still feel the same. Too much risk even if he was "the best available". Some people seemed encouraged by his playoff performance because it was Edmonton, but I wasn't impressed.

So far not impressed and a cause for concern but give it a few more games. Unless Dorion is going against advice, the pro scouts have been and it appears still are the weakest link in this org!

Never liked Korpi, really didn't/dont like the signing... seems like he has some really great athletic ability and can make really tough saves but always seems to give up a softy.

I would have gone with Andersen, Raanta, Brossoit, Ned, Blackwood, Stolarz, Daccord, even Martin Jones over that stinker of a deal to Korpi. Looked like a future buyout from day 1.

Forsberg wouldn't let in a single goal if he played for Minnesota given the rate things are going

There were a lot of high quality shots yesterday, but two of those goals against were stinkers. Momentum killers. And you need your goalie to stop those kinds of shots. It will be interesting to see how the guys play the next time he is in net. It's really easy to lose confidence in a goalie, and hard to regain it. I hope they don't lose confidence in him this quickly.

And Soogard is not ready for the NHL. He needs to stay the full season in the AHL and slowly develop. We also don't want him playing behind a putrid defensive effort like we saw yesterday.

It's not quite panic time yet (way too early for that...I hope!), but yesterday's game was definitely concerning. And not just for poor goaltending. All the guys on the team really need to toughen up mentally. The whole "we're a young team" doesn't cut it anymore. It's time to hit the next level. No more easy excuses.

And why do you need to sign the best on the market. Or the perceived best. “Well we had to sign him. He was the biggest name there!!” Is that how you run anything?

He also completely gave up the Carolina game. We tied the game and he let in two atrocious goals

Any of those guys would have done. And we would have pinto signed right now lol. And likely have room to maneuver something else if we wanted to lol

The pre-season was promising, these first games less so. I get that sometimes you have to gamble on goalies, but five years was quite a hefty bet. I was of the mind that we should just run with Gus and Fors, but I get that would have been a risk as well

The point is we didn't need to go out and get Korpisalo, the option of running with Forsberg was available. We made a choice to not trust Forsberg and use a significant chunk of our limited cap space to acquire a goalie who while he was the best available UFA goalie, came with significant questions about whether or not he could be a starter.

Time will tell whether the bet pays off, right now it feels a lot like the bet we made on Talbot, how did that one turn out, or did you forget about that too?
He's alot better than Talbot I can tell you that for sure. Way more talented but might have similar consistency issues. Even with his shaky start I don't hate it that much. But what should be clear is if either him or Forsberg significantly outplay one another it should be their net. I think the term was a bit much but they had to get him here and I doubt it was his first choice.

Giving up on Gus so early when all the signs were there especially for a 35 year old is one of Dorions worst all time moves and that's saying something as there is a long list.

Freddy Andersen was the goalie I wanted Ottawa to sign this summer. Steady, reliable veteran, still more than capable of being a 1A, a perfect mentor for Sogaard.
