Oh hey look at that, there is/was *shocked face*
So you are saying guys like Talbot, Blackwood, Jones and Rittich are all equal in talent to Korpisalo? Yeah right. And a bunch of other guys just signed back with the teams they were already on so they don't even factor in.

It's way too early to push the panic button on Korpi. He's played what 2 games??? and you're already to throw him under the bus??? That's that definition of overreacting

But he got exposed last year in the playoffs and looked bad. There’s something about a goalie showing weakness like that - the other team had him figured out - that’s got to be a concern.

He lets in some soft goals - at least that’s something we can all see

Sogaard looking pretty good in Belleville, would have solved our cap issue too...

Speaking of goalies who let’s in soft goals and has bad nights

Just a reminder, this was Lalime:

Honestly though, that was lalime at his worst.

At his best he was able to keep the pucks out at about a .915 rate and could get 30-40 wins.

I don't think korpisalo is good enough to put up 30-40 wins for us at any point over the next 5 years.

Oh, I forgot, playing in the AHL is exactly the same as playing in the NHL…..

Highest rated Goaltender on the UFA market this past offseason….
So who should PD have brought in, and how?

Honestly? Probably better let sogaard be the backup and save the money.

Lalime wasn't some superstar vet when he came here. He was just like a Forsberg.

And who did we get to backup lalime? Rookies like Prusek and Hurme. They both did great as backups.

And what happened the one time we went out and got a vet goalie? Barrasso shit the bed.

Sometimes it's best to just go with a younger backup goalie who wants to prove it. We could have still had Gus if we had that mentality.

Played 3 stunk in 2. He's not very technically sound. Doesn't have very good hockey sense. A very poor pro evaluation by management to give a backup/2a goalie that much term. Par for the course with Dorions ability to evaluate netminders. Leaky momentum changing goals are going to go in on him. He has raw talent but he will never be consistent enough with his skillset to live up to that contract.

Soogard is 22 not 29. Big difference. He's more technically sound than Korpisalo. He has a long way to go from a development standpoint.

That being said he should be developing in the AHL.

Gustavsson is one of the best technical goalies in hockey. That trade will haunt this organization for a long long time.

The point is we didn't need to go out and get Korpisalo, the option of running with Forsberg was available. We made a choice to not trust Forsberg and use a significant chunk of our limited cap space to acquire a goalie who while he was the best available UFA goalie, came with significant questions about whether or not he could be a starter.

Time will tell whether the bet pays off, right now it feels a lot like the bet we made on Talbot, how did that one turn out, or did you forget about that too?

Korpi was suspect at signing, he has done little to change my opinion. So no not overreacting, he's just confirming my suspicions.

Time will tell, you’re spot with that….and That is why all these people running around with their hair of fire, and suggesting the he’s a bust, after he has played, what three games, and had three PPGs score on him in his last game…

the point is after Ottawa lost both veteran goaltenders for large chunks of the season last year, and they were forced to play the younger goaltenders in the system… including Sogaard who has a NHL 3.30 GAA and a .889 SV%… proving he was not ready for prime time, and there was a consensus that acquiring A veteran goaltender was at the top of the to do list this past offseason…. So PD acquired the top rated goaltender available on the UFA market….

So after the first “off game” ( did I mention 3 PPGs?) of the season, the whiners come out and second guess the off-season acquisition that they all were in agreement when he was acquired….

If he doesn't work out, they will need Sogaard to save them since he will be cheap on a bridge deal.

At worst absolute worst, for 4M you'd want a goalie who can reliably play 30+ games. 4M isn't true starting goalie money anymore, and the cap is going up. So that's the only positive, that the floor isn't very high for what he needs to do at that AAV.

He just needs to have above a .810 save percentage (disclaimer that was facetious. I have not checked his save percentage )

There was nothing resembling consensus approval of the Korpisalo signing when it happened. Many posters here hated it. Probably the same ones who are now concerned by his terrible start to the season.

If Korpisalo loses another game…. There will be a march on the CTC to have him sent to the AHL and Sogaard brought up to win every game he plays for the remainder of the season…guaranteed Stanley Cup

If you hated a signing or trade or whatever at the time you’re called a pessimist and don’t know what you’re talking about.

If you’re proven right you’re accused of using hindsight

Fans aren’t stupid. If he loses but plays well I think we would all understand shit happens. If let’s another 4 goals in on the first 15 shots in the next game then yeah

If this is a mistake which I am not convinced it is, we are going to have to wait to determine that more convincingly and to correct it.

I am not defending the signing. I just don't know what we can do about it now and what Petty Pete would be compelled to do about it. He has bigger fish to fry right now to make his way out of other blunders.

Can't wait for the clarity he comes up with on the Pinto situation.

Can we trade him?

How are you proven right? It's game 5 of the season. Yes he had a bad goal against Carolina and two that he should've had against Detroit. Let's evaluate him based on an entire season before we start declaring it a disaster.

Dorion absolutely needed to replace Talbot. I don't think Forsberg and Sogaard would've been enough to make the post season. Korpisalo was the best available UFA goalie on the market. Again, let's evaluate him based on the entire season... not 5 games in.
