Slewfoot is a poorly named penalty, as it does not always require a foot sweep. As per the rulebook.
But doesn’t the foot/leg have to be behind the player so as to cause him to topple backwards when his upper body is pulled back? Giving the player zero chance of righting himself to prevent the fall?

I don’t believe Ellinas’ foot/leg was used in this manner.

I'm not sure of this, the replay from the other side of the rink showed that Ellinas foot may have helped in dumping the player. But I think it wasn't intentional.
I saw that replay too. It seemed that the leg was behind him but pulled it out of the way (skating stride) before the action.

Tough to tell without watching repeated slo-mo’s.

In any case, the fact it was reviewed by the on ice officials tells me that the league will back up their decision.

They still haven't replaced Schmidt either from the trade. They signed FA but that isn't for any sort of run this year. It's the 3rd line that needs to be addressed. Prior to Rehkopf and Mesar leaving, Rangers had 3 solid lines that complimented each other perfectly (1st, 2nd, 4th), to the point where Jussi rolled all 4 lines all game, no matter the situation. Mess that up, and you get a 4-3 record over WJC and some pretty messy hockey.

Still, the fact this team is even in this position to be critiqued for it's depth sitting at 1st place is wild. What a weird season. Silver lining last night, 2 rookies scored. Lam is a stud.
And yes, the boys didn't stick to the script and play the way that has got them to this point. YET....they didn't get whomped by Sag. In fact, it took a 5 minute PP for Sag to get the winning goal. Otherwise, it may very well have gone to OT.

Dirracolo is settling in nicely early on. In his interview with Fixter, he did note that big hits would be a part of his add to the team. Looking forward to that. And that goal he scored was a huge bonus.

Ando wasn't Ando last night. Very quiet. Usually, he's the chirping cheerleader of the team. Either not feeling well OR he's been told to rein it in.

I did notice a change in the 3rd. Rangers D didn't play so deep with one D ready for a breakaway. Prior to that Saggy would power in past the Rangers D who had issues catching up to them. The shots on goal issue was the Rangers not keeping it simple and passing way too much instead of yes...shooting!

We should see a bounce back tomorrow night.

Does anyone know why the first goal by Saggy was called back? I know Parsons was adamant it was kicked in but all the replays on TV wasn't conclusive. I suppose there may have other replays that Roger never had.

I’m surprised how all these teams haven’t made a move yet. Not just the Rangers but pretty much everyone. Is there not 2 GMs that have talked about a played and decided a 2nd and 3rd for a 2004 (just an example) is a good trade for both teams. We had the OS and PTBO trade that really wasn’t good typical 19 year old traded for picks or young player. There has to be 20 to 40 2004 players in trade talks….nobody has come up with a deal that both GMs are happy with? Just find it weird.

2 goals called back. 1st was goalie interference and 2nd was kicking motion.

A loss is a loss is a loss but I didn't leave the Aud yesterday super concerned over it. The new season starts next week.

The first one was iffy with the goaltending interference but the 2nd one when they showed the review you could see the kicking of the puck into the net. The slewfoot I think meets the basic criteria for that call but did not look intentional. League almost always backs the refs. stay safe.

Although only getting 13 shots on net should be extremely concerning I agree with you here. Losing 3-2 to a team like Sagniaw isn't worth a panic knowing we managed to maintain our 1st place position throughout the WJC and now have two of the best players in the league coming back.

Hearing Jussi say "we made too many pretty passes with no shot" is just a sound board button during post game at this point.

On the positive side, we scored 2 goals on our first 3 shots on net! ;-)

First goal back was challenged for goaltender interference and won by kitchener. 2nd goal called back was definite kicking motion.

1st Saginaw goal called back was goalie interference.

Saginaw player in blue paint, making contact with Parsons.

Plus big nickle Martin coming back, immediate top 6 fwd upgrade

That Lam goal was a beaut.

After that Saginaw made sure to rough him up whenever they could.

I think Rangers top six forwards is as good or better than any team in the league.

I think with the guys missing and with the D trades, the top guys are playing too many minutes right now and look worn down as the game goes on.

On the final shift last night, Sop couldn’t muster the energy to compete and it also explains Ando’s lack of energy for the extra stuff.

Very good observation IMO. I noticed this while ago already. I recall one shift where the coaching staff left Sop's line out after a fairly long shift late in the 3rd. Faceoff in O-zone while on PP and the opposing player grabs the puck and Sop is so gassed he has no way of catching up to the guy on the breakaway....and a shortie results. These guys need a rest just as badly a Rehkopf and Mesar I would say, but the schedule doesn't stop for them I guess.

One part of me sees this team as not being able to match Saginaw in the 2nd half - especially since they can still load up even more than they already have ! Soo and London are two more that will be tough. Then there's Guelph, Fint and Owen Sound who also want to have something to say. I personally think parting with any '07 in any trade could very well be done in vain (i.e. too many hurdles to overcome in the West to make it to the OHL finals.....then facing the East winner...drained, battle-weary, and in an anticlimactic final if they were to somehow make it that far). Just my opinion though.

The other part of me acknowledges that the staff has gotten a lot of mileage out of a very young line-up lately, and throughout the season thus far.

Sop looked gassed a couple times last night or didn’t care….both not good. 2 minutes left and 2:00 power play. Jussi calls timeout. He doesn’t make many mistakes but the 6 that were put out on that 6 on 4 you pretty much knew were playing the last 2 minutes unless we scored. None of them were on the ice (Pugs line was out). Let them play until next whistle and then call a timeout. There was a whistle right at 1:00 mark. Prefect time to rest the 6 and start fresh.

Vilimanis sounds like he is going to the eastern conference.

So….Pobezal still first option although everyday that goes by I find it more unlikely that he comes.

Martin Misiak would have to be the next target? As a Blackhawks fan I’d love to see him here.
