It's even less meaninful than that, because two of the wins and two of the losses in the 4-4 (that includes Washington) were in shootouts. soooo 2-2-4ish. Interestingly all of the losses were away from the X.

What it does show, is this team can play with any team in the league. And a heck of a lot of that came with Fiala's line basically being relatively ineffective, pre Boldy.

Boldy has strengthened the Fiala line a ton, adding another piece to get Gaudrau out of there would strengthen it a lot.

which with our games in hand and our current win rate, we should be in the number 2 spot in the central. giving us home ice advantage.

I continue to be asking the question:

If this team is 3rd in the league in goals, and if Kap-Hart-Zucc seems to be more or less unstoppable.....why is anyone asking about an upgrade at center? I know that no one is happy with the ? in a Boldy-?-Fiala line, so there is that....but still, the offense on this team is not something to cry about.

Goals against, however, is a big problem. If that doesn't settle down when Brodin and Spurge are back then something needs to be done there.
You answered your own question. Need a valid center for Boldy/ Fiala

I’d like to see a puck battle stat. I feel like he wins 90% of them and it’s amazing.

Let’s get down to the important topic at hand. Kaprizov is a legit hart trophy contender right now. Ovi is the current favorite, but Kaprizov’s pace is almost the exact same as his, Covid has just put his games played a few games behind. Every Kaprizov point from this point forward is important towards getting him at Ovi’s pace. Kaprizov, imo, should get the advantage between the two. He has literally made Ryan Hartman a near point per game player. The way he’s elevated players in this team makes him the literal definition of the hart trophy

Kap is tired for 12th in p/game. He's tied for 25th in goals. He's tied for 9th in assists. Those are all very good numbers, but those aren't a Hart winner stats when compared to the rest of the league. He also doesn't have the narrative like Ovi does this year to boost his vote totals.

He has also played fewer games than most of the players on the list above him. Also worth noting that he is tied for 2nd in even strength scoring. If the Wild's PP could improve to being just average, his numbers would be a lot better.

I'm not saying that Kaprizov should win the Hart....only that he deserves consideration if he continues his pace.

Consideration sure, but picking up a couple 5th place votes, not a top vote getter. Even pro-rating the stats his numbers (outside of even strength scoring) aren't the very top tier. As a direct comparison Kap is behind Drais, McDavid, Rantanen, and Kadri in points with the same number of games played. McDavid and Drais are above 1.5 ppg.

Kap is having the best season ever for a Wild player, no doubt. Compared to the rest of the league he's just not having the best of the best season. That slow start he had will probably cost him really getting into that best of the best discussion this year.

If you exclude non-playoff teams (which a lot of people do for this award), he's top 3 right now with Ovechkin and Huberdeau. Though Shesterkin has a pretty good case to be there too with how far ahead of the other goalies he is, with the Rangers not exactly being a defensive stalwart.

At worst, top 5 with one of McDrai in there.

Also, of the 11 guys ahead of him:

3 are not going to have the games played to be factors (Kucherov, Pacioretty and Rust)
5 are from 2 teams (McDavid/Draisaitl and MacKinnon/Rantanen/Kadri)

Forgot about Marchand before though. He seems to be carrying Boston quite a bit this season too. Pastrnak and Bergeron aren't quite what they recently have been this year.

I didn't notice the Kuch and Rust numbers until after I posted.

Huberdeau is having an amazing season and should get some love. He's 20p ahead of Reinhart (2nd on the team). The guy is on an 80 assist pace halfway though the season.
Fox in NYR is over a ppg as a d-man.
Meier is dragging SJS into Playoff contention. His numbers are just strange compared to the rest of the team. He's +15 and the next FWD is +2.

There has been one Dman who has won the Hart since Orr in 72. Lidstrom, Potvin, Bourque, Robinson, Coffey, Karlsson all didn't win. No way that Fox wins. Unless the Dman is truly mindboggling(Orr), or the rest of the league is mediocre/vote split(Pronger), then a Dman will have to be content with the Norris.
