He’s still gonna be a RFA after 4 years.

How is a beat reporter who does this for a living, not able to shut his trap until he’s done some homework about what Dach’s status would be after a 4 year deal?

What is his senseless rollercoaster tweeting when he could have tapped into a source in the know rather than lazily relying on a “few tweets flying around”?

His baseless rushes to judgment are unprofessional. Getting it right is more important than getting it first and being all over the place. What a putz.

3.5M seems high for Dach until you consider taxes. It still pisses me off that salary caps are based on pre-tax dollars rather than post tax dollars. It really gives an advantage to states with low taxes. The new NHL was supposed to level the playing field, but it has only really tilted it towards the US of Aye? Friggin' Bettman.

If I understand buyouts correctly, for a player under 26 the team would only be on the hook for 1/3 of the remaining contract. If that would apply here, 4 years would not seem as risky. Believe this helped influence the Colin White buyout.

4 years for almost zero accomplishment irritates me, but in this new era of pro athlete it is what it is. It ain’t my money, and I am seriously looking forward to seeing how he gels here.

Actually if all the kids they acquired/drafted are that weak / unwilling to accept guidance, it is the organization's fault for not being able to identify this trait.

You can't just blame the player each time when the organization keeps getting these players. Why can't they draft low maintenance players like other teams where player develops themselves? What's next, blame the city fans media? Anyone but management...
Okay, players have absolutely no personal responsability in their own development/life, got it. They are poor little milionnaires stuck in the evil talons of bad management.

4 years at 3.5M based on what was signed lately makes no sense to me. For this to make sense has to mean that they are CERTAIN that at year 3 this will look like a steal. Not sure how it will be though especially if you insist at using the guy at C while he can't rise his faceoff % higher than 40...

Imagine giving 4m to a guy that can barely stay on the third line.

The trade was bad already, is this was true , Romanov would cost less lmao.
Apparently, it’s only one of the options being considered.

It may also be the case that some other option prevails.

Maybe there is also a 2-year show-me offer, which would have the player handsomely rewarded after displaying that he’s taken a serious leap from his Chicago shortcomings.

Id go 2.5m for 2 years. Above that is not worth it. our salary cap is pretty limit right now , feeding a 1.5m for a guy that struggle more than KK would be bad.

Surprised they'd go 4 years....still the financial commitment isn't huge if the numbers reported are right..

Based on comparables we’ve seen mentioned in here (like Kakko), I was under the impression that a reasonable 2 year deal would have him earn $2 Million per season.

I'm down for a longer contract, gives the kid a chance to play with the next few years and not have to worry about his next contract that would be right around the corner. I think it would probably be best for him just to focus on hockey especially after his rough start into the NHL, and for him to know he's going to be around for awhile without that extra noise of a bridge deal.

Prefer a shorter, cheaper contract. But the fact that they agreed means that they both believe it's in their interest.
I'm not sure which side wants a long contract more
