Would you do it?

Dach and Dvorak for PLD?
No, that’s too many NHL assets, and effectively both are our middle-6 centers. I suppose we could sign White to fill a #3/#4 spot but if rumours are true and PLD wants to play here, we can wait a couple years where by then, we should be ready to start making some noise.

However, any decent trade to move Dvo, I’d welcome it.

I can see Wright and Colley becoming the #1 C that we dream about

I can’t see Dach becoming that with what he showed in the past 2 seasons. Can he become a good #2 C behind Suzuki ? Sure
I personally think Dach can still be a no.1 center in this league. He has too much talent and size to be push aside at 21yo. His rookie season was pretty good for a 18 yo and the start of his sophomore season was good to, before his injury. Last year was a tough year but he missed a good chumk of his off-season and to be honest, the whole team was trash also.

I think he his more talented than Suzuki but Suzuki's IQ is off the chart so i don't know who will be the best player going forward. Right now it's Suzuki no question. But i think there is a fair chance Dach might become the better of the two in the end.

Oh no.

I swear people forget how young Dach is, anyone remembers what suzuki was like in 20-21, that's this year coming for Dach.

Salary Cap says hi

Otherwise I might be inclined to do it. Dach's injury and recovery make me a bit uneasy. PLD, with all his problems, should make our 1-2 punch at center a real thing. He's less a project than Dach is.

Yeah. I’d personally just not overthink his gong show of a time in Chicago and consider these next couple upcoming seasons as his true development years. I think by 2024, we’ll know exactly the kind of player he’s going to be.

People may not know the timeline of his injury. He was injured before his sophomore season started.. Blackhawks rushed him comeback lead to complications then shut him down. He wasn't heal until last August.

66th was the first pick of the 3rd round.

Columbus' 3rd round pick was 96th.

So Chicago probably opted to go with 13th + 66th rather than 11th + 96th.

There were 51 picks between 13th and 66th and there were 83 picks between 11th and 96th.

If Columbus offered their 11th + their 2nd round pick (44th), then Dach would be a Columbus Blue Jacket right now. So they were surely offering a 3rd or later, which Habs' offer is better.

IIRC, the 11th was San Jose, no?

Yes.

Only reservation is it makes us better short term, and Bedard/Mishkov/Fantelli is priority #1.

I'd love another top 3 pick next year but I am not sure that is their plan. I think their plan is assembling building blocks and gaining momentum. If we come out flat this year like last season, then maybe they consider resting guys with injuries and shooting for another tank year. However, heading into the season, they are thinking positive momentum vs a top 3 pick IMO.

There are other moves we can make to get the cap to work. Petry is likely traded after a few days of UFA where the top D men are signed.

Pitlick is likely gone. Dach likely gets $2.5M bridge deal (+/-). Something like Chytil got last season.

It's workable and if there is a deal for PLD (Dach and Dvorak), they can easily delay the trade and explore the Petry trade and maybe a Hoffman trade as well. Problem solved.

Oh no.

I do still like Dach's potential. He's got development to go through and also maturity for what a center is responsible for. We do agree on what he "can" be. Hard to guess accurately

Maybe, it's best to see what Dach can do this year and possibly considering a PLD trade during the season (Price may be on LTIR) or next offseason. It's clear that PLD is only signing for 1 or 2 years with the Jets.

I love Dach's potential but PLD is a legit top 2C and one year older than Suzuki.

I'd consider the move but it depends on trades with Petry and others. Dvorak has more value than some are willing to admit.

Could be.

I also don't think they're thinking trade Dach, right after acquiring him ;)

I herd that the Habs were trying to trade for the Sens 7th OA pick and then flipping it for PLD. It fell through and Dach was plan B. He's from out west and there is no doubt in my mind the Jets would value him in a PLD trade.

PLD to Montreal is not going away (like it or not).

For sure it's always possible to make moves.. but what are we getting for them? Other contracts in return?

Highly unlikely Dach goes for Dubois, though.

We don't know what the options are as fans. I think Petry is going to return something very good and we will save cap space in that deal (regardless of $1M retention or taking back a 1/2 year cap dump at lower cap hit)

A guy like Hoffman will get a 2nd rounder (or two) and we take back and 1 year dump. He's not difficult to move base on his PP skill and proven track record. Won't get a 1st or Grade A but we won't have to pay a future to move him IMO.

I don't know. I would not use the highly unlikely narrative at this point in time.

I don't disagree PLD is a quality center, but we aren't expected to compete for a couple seasons which is the remainder of his current deal. The environment may not be ideal depending on how high a regard he places on winning and playoffs which may impact his motivation which to be frank, hasn't looked so great in Winnipeg and especially the end of his time in Columbus.

He'll probably be under immense pressure from the media as well for obvious reasons which isn't ideal again if the team isn't winning.

I mean, I wouldn't be outraged with that trade, but I'd rather see what Dach offers and wait a couple seasons and try to sign PLD.

Might be something we review during the season or next off season. Depends on what other teams offer the Jets for PLD and his 2 RFA years left and also depends on how Dach looks this season.

Look at it from the Jets perspective. If Dach has a great season this year with the Habs, he might be untouchable and if PLD tells them he will only do long term extension with the Habs, they are in a dilemma.

I heard the Habs were trying to trade for the Sens 7th OA and then flipping it for PLD. Dach was plan B. I'll let you guys decide if this has any credibility
