There is a huge difference between a guy that is 6 4 because it takes much longer to fill the body. You can’t directly compare them like that.

You can think otherwise but I’m telling you I think he needs 3 more full years. The timeline is fine though, since Habs won’t be competitive before that.

All we need to see till then is progress. If he shows progress for the next 3 years he will breakout, otherwise he won’t and could bust or be a 3rd liner depending on how his game has evolved.

Most big guys take longer. That just how it is and losing patience isn’t the way to go.
cmon dude it's been 3 years and literally 0 progess. good players dont wait 6 years to be good cmon now.

Not only that, but his wrist is GG.

Hughes got Fleeced by NYI and Chicago for a bust with a dead wrist.

Yikes.

I bet Chicago are laughing all the way to the bank after they landed Nazar with the 13th OA pick from this trade.

Tell us more then, about Dach's injury, its ramifications?
I’m an emergency doctor. I see Colles’s fracture when they arrive and i don’t do the follow-up after i evaluate the nerve integrity, splint and consult to OR. The evolution of a Colles’s which looks like grade VI is better evaluate by an Ortho. The fact that he played 3 months after the injury is reassuring by the fact that no nerve was affected in the initial injury and there was no mal-union or non-union (unable to heal even with proper care). I believe he probably receive better treatment (ergo, cryo,…) and investigation (MRI) then most patients we see in the public healtcare so the adherence in tendons and diminution of range of motion are less likely, but i’m always afraid that a young player of 19-20 years old can lessen the symptoms to continue playing (we tend to say that normal people can do sport after a minimum of 8 weeks and they don’t feel any ankylosis).

The thing that scares me is the fracture with a low velocity impact like he did. A wrist fracture in a non-caracteristic trauma is enough to diagnose osteoporosis in someone over 40 years old. For someone young like that, multiple investigation was done and, if he was bigger, the use of steroids. Hugues and the CH received everything and seems fine with the evaluation (reassuring), but he can still have chronic pain despite normal mri and the best treatment possible).

Sorry if t’ils not super clean, english is my second langage (and autocorrect keeps reminding me this fact

Actually they do. It’s not really in terms of years but of games played though. But in any event it comes down to the same thing. And sure 20% of the big guys don’t need to wait that long but 80% do.

Yeah the wrist is concerning but since they said they did their homework on him, I’d guess it is under control. That’s probably the first thing you need to check before making the trade.

Great input. Much appreciated.

he missed most of 1 season, bigger forward prospects can take longer to adjust to their frame and yes some prospects need YEARS to find their way.

This is so much like KK all over again, posters with zero patience that said I have no clue if Dach is any good or not. You have to be patient with prospects, something this board has shown repeatedly that it can't seem to do.

If not for injuries/covid he would have played 246 games over 3 years, he's played 152.

Here is what chicago fans told me in the last 2 days about him and things i know by watching him play.

-Heavy wrist injury
-Absolute terrible at taking faceoffs
-Average speed at best.
-Struggle defensively
-Barely use his big body
-Struggle to fight on the board
-Good shot but doesnt use it often
-Decent passing
-Hawks saying he would fit more on the wings.
-had all the chance on the pp and best players like Kane to play with and still couldnt grow up.

No matter how you see this , this screams like a 3rd line player for a 13th/Romanov , this is bad.
It wasn't 13th/Romanov. It was Romo and a pick.

Also, Great value because HuGo may have recognized personality traits ( and skills ) that fit better with OUR group of players. 21 Y/O

come on Mtl... you know this place never changes lol

Dach clearly still has a window to progress towards the higher end of his ceiling, and, barring major injury, has the tools to ensure that his floor will still be solid bottom-6 NHLer. It's a worthwhile gamble for a big, skilled, strong skating RH C. I hate that we had to give up Romanov, but i totally get the decision.

That Dach and Guhle are close and training partners in the offseason is a net benefit as well. Should be fun watching both of them coming into their own with the bleu blanc rouge over the next few seasons... hopefully Dach uses this reset opportunity as a launching point to propel him into a top-6 NHL career.

The fact that we gave Romanov doesn't bother me at all since I didn't see us having him, Guhle, Xhekaj, Fairbrother, Struble, etc... all trying to run over players, I figured at some point some of these young D prospects would need to be moved. I just don't like giving up the 13th OA in the deal, I think we could have done better just keeping the pick and going with Nazar but time will tell on that one. Getting a player like Dach could be a huge win for us or he's busted and we just overpaid for a 4th line winger. I can see why they did it, I don't know Dach's game at all, I don't recall seeing him in the dub and certainly not a bit since so hopefully management knows what they are doing, though even the best will make mistakes from time to time.

Do we know if Dach’s wrist is healed?
Heard that he couldn’t lift weights and get bigger because of his injury. He’s still pretty close to the weight he was drafted at

i hear you... except on the romanov vs 13th pick part.

what i like about the approach is that Dach is as good or better - potential-wise - than anyone we could have had at 13th, and steps into the lineup right away. With Slaf, Mesar, Beck, Rohrer (and Roy, Kidney, Kapanen, Tuch, Mysak, Farell, Ylonen, Heineman, Schnarr, Smilanic et.) we all of a sudden have a pretty large pool of fwd prospects with legit top-6 upside in a 2-4 year window. Organization context-wise, i get placing more value on the NHL established Dach over another high-ish end draft prospect.

Time will tell how good their evaluation of Dach vs what was available at 13, but for now i like the odds.

So at worst a 3rd C (position of need) with size for a 3rd pair D that Habs can back fill with 3/4 prospects?
Sounds ok here.

Im pretty much on the previous poster (Montreal) on that. Romanov for 13OV is a good trade because Romanov is an excellent dman but our lack of puckmoving on defense make him expendable. Even if he was my second favorite player on this jersey, I recognize that a pick in the 1st half of the 1st round is fair value. If we could grab a sure fire puckmover by adding this pick to a prospect, I would be more than happy even it hurs to lose Romy.

Then, the 1st+ for Dach isnt good at all. Dach value was more around the pick received for KK. We'll see if we have luck but we should never trade 13ov for luck. For now, the best chance for Dach is not becoming a center, but being a RW like he was in Chicago in a powerforward role with some passing skills to play with Caufield and Suzuki. Im pretty sure it will end like that and then we'll be all confused with Slaf role vs Dach role vs Anderson role and the poor Ylonen quiet on the 4th line.

Chicago had an offer of 11th OA for Dach. So you're wrong on his value.

At worst a very vanilla 3C that doesnt use his shot, doesnt play physical or do anything very valuable.

Romanov was already a #3D and played all season as the teams top D.

Its funny that people preach patience with Dach while dismissing Romanov. Eh, wtv. Hopefully Dach pans out.

This is the narrative we're going with now? Jesus

100% some fans think like that

Dach will be a Center in Montreal whether he likes it or not.

I look at tall centers in the last 10 years who were not bonified stars coming out of the draft and they all took a couple years to put it together. Couturier came out of the draft and did not look very impressive for the first couple year until he filled out his frame by putting on some size and got some respect in the league. Same with Mark Scheifele, hell Winnipeg fans called him bambi for the first 2 years cause he got abused, knocked off the puck and looked like a twig getting pushed around. I hope that this is true with Dach as well. Also not having to be top line.

Hope Dach works out better than last 3rd overall pick we traded for. Very similar trades. A young defenseman traded for former third overall three years after his draft year

I don't eee Romanov as a 3rd D on a veey good team. JMO. I didn't insult his game, to try and make a point.
I liked the kid and ws rooting for him. Hope he crushes it moving forward. Easy to cheer for.
But I'd rather take the chance on the C esp. with the D prospects in the system.
