Seguin had a 70 points season at 19... he then followed it up with a .67 ppg season at 20.

Daxh had 7 points without Kane/Cat (in less ice time) and 8 with at least one of those... He didnt prove shit.

See, Brook was the ex I really loved at the time and I realized along the way she wasnt the one.

Dach is the ex that you found a few times kissing dudes in the greasy dive bar toilets and youre still giving her chances.

I'm aware of Sequin's points with the Bruins before they traded him. It's deeper than points. Galchenyuk put up more points than Dach too. Points come and go but the real area of value is the style of game they play and how they mature heading into their prime years from 23-30 range.

In terms of upside its:
Dach
Cooley
Wright
Wright better take the chip on his shoulder and really take it to heart. He's like the Tin Man.... if he can find his heart, he's going to be a very good player. But that's a hard ask for players who just seem a little disinterested quite often.

As much as I've seen him, I've never seen Shane Wright go into another gear. If he has another gear.... that's going to be bonkers. But I've never seen it.

He did go into that gear a lot prior to this year

There is a huge difference between a guy that is 6 4 because it takes much longer to fill the body. You can’t directly compare them like that.

You can think otherwise but I’m telling you I think he needs 3 more full years. The timeline is fine though, since Habs won’t be competitive before that.

All we need to see till then is progress. If he shows progress for the next 3 years he will breakout, otherwise he won’t and could bust or be a 3rd liner depending on how his game has evolved.

Most big guys take longer. That just how it is and losing patience isn’t the way to go.
They do take longer but if he's not doing around 40 points next season then it does not look good. You don't go from 20 points to 70 points from 22 to 25. There should be a progression. He should be able next season to show some progress in his game and be in a transition between his peak and his debut. I said the same about JK a year ago btw.

I think people would be more optimistic if we wouldnt have experienced Kotkaniemi before who have a similar career path. We need to remember that they are different player. It might turn out better for us than the hurricanes. It would be interesting to follow. I think that’s a good gamble.

Chicago had an offer of 11th OA for Dach. So you're wrong on his value.

I don't think it really tells his real value, more that Davidson was cunning enough to get a bidding war going.

Also, I have a hard time believing Davidson would skip on the 11th just to get the 66th. I would've nabbed the 11th instead.

That one is super weird to me. If he was as bad as people claim and the Hawks decided to get ride of him because of it, why was he playing more than Toews and Strome?

Was the coach trying to shelter Toews and Strome and sacrificed Dach to do it? Or did the coach prefer Dach?

Or maybe they wanted to go all-in on him and try to raise his value and see what he's got. Trial by fire.

I’m an emergency doctor. I see Colles’s fracture when they arrive and i don’t do the follow-up after i evaluate the nerve integrity, splint and consult to OR. The evolution of a Colles’s which looks like grade VI is better evaluate by an Ortho. The fact that he played 3 months after the injury is reassuring by the fact that no nerve was affected in the initial injury and there was no mal-union or non-union (unable to heal even with proper care). I believe he probably receive better treatment (ergo, cryo,…) and investigation (MRI) then most patients we see in the public healtcare so the adherence in tendons and diminution of range of motion are less likely, but i’m always afraid that a young player of 19-20 years old can lessen the symptoms to continue playing (we tend to say that normal people can do sport after a minimum of 8 weeks and they don’t feel any ankylosis).

The thing that scares me is the fracture with a low velocity impact like he did. A wrist fracture in a non-caracteristic trauma is enough to diagnose osteoporosis in someone over 40 years old. For someone young like that, multiple investigation was done and, if he was bigger, the use of steroids. Hugues and the CH received everything and seems fine with the evaluation (reassuring), but he can still have chronic pain despite normal mri and the best treatment possible).

Sorry if t’ils not super clean, english is my second langage (and autocorrect keeps reminding me this fact
Thank you Doc!

It's a mid first in a not particularly high-end draft to get a player who's 21 years old with a higher ceiling than anyone in the draft, that includes the top 3.

In the KHL maybe
Romanov's numbers looked significantly better after the coaching change. Ducharme was the worst coach in organizational history and was really messing up his development, like everyone else.

I like the trade, it's the sort of gamble you need to make - Romanov is not exceptional, if any of our defensive prospects live up to their upside he was going to be redundant either way, but he was an asset who will probably be a good fit on the Islanders.

There's good odds Romanov will have a better career than Dach, but this isn't the Sergachev trade part two - Romanov does not have the ceiling of his fellow Russian, especially offensively, and Dach, while a player I have many questions about, still has a much better chance of putting it together if he can stay healthy than Drouin did, who was clearly fools good to anyone who followed his NHL career.

So far, nothing is pointing in the direction that Dach will have a "better" career than Drouin.

I prefer that we drafted Nazar or Kemell than trading for Dach. I'm totally fine that we finish at the bottom next year.

That's some very high praise.

Curious what you think about Dach's inability to put it together (so far).

Jack Han does a good article on it and I think the Chicago environment & the wrist injury probably explains a lot.

BIg kids like this also take a lot longer to get there. The fact Chicago put him in at 18 is as stupid as when we did it for KK.

I read the Jack Han article. I think it's quite an uphill road for us and Kirby Dach. Seems like he wasn't meant to be picked 3OA to begin with.
