His wrist isn’t sore anymore :sarcasm:

I see a lot of Eric Stall. I know, still early, hate comparisons. But he's a efficient cycle guy, he's good picking up loose pucks on the boards and close to the slot, he's a very good passer, and is calm. I see a lot of 21 in him. Never flashy, but he's got wheels too.
I love the Staal comparison, but I hope he’s alot closer to the #12 version than the #21 one lol

Early assessment of Kirby Dach has me cautiously excited that he may become a steal.
What was Chicago thinking?
21 y/o 3rd overall pick jettisoned during a rebuild?
He has looked really good this preseason.

Yeah, I like this kid also and was a fan in his draft year. Maybe not #3 overall, but he has a lot of nice traits.

As for those whining about him last night… he was far from being the problem with the team.

He reminds me of Ryan Johansen and if he can have the same impact of him, (the talent and potential is there), Habs are in are a pretty good hands with Suzuki and Dach at C for longtime.

It's where I care less that we didn't get Wright or Cooley.

Dach, Suzuki and Beck are looking like a great future center line but we are likely going to walk away with a Bedard, Fantilli, Yager or Carlsson. I think a couple of those guys can bounce to the wing too, so there's flexibility but it'd be better to choose our best center line based on center duties vs. having to use those 3 at center because there are no other options.

Could be especially true if we land PLD as well.

My early assessment is that those who valued him as similar to KK are way off.

Dach skates better, is more creative, is better at board battles, and is at least equal to KK in willingness to backcheck.

Hey @morhilane, how were his advanced stats last night? Curious to see. He seemed to carry the puck many times in zone entries, but it might be just anecdotal.
Unfortunately, NaturalStatTrick doesn't have zone entries/exist data. They pull their data from the NHL and it's mostly shots generation and defensive stats. JFresh Hockey on twitter sometimes post the info during the season, but no posts for pre-season games that I can see.

From the eye-test, he is smooth in controlled zone entries as advertised. He also passed to Caufield a lot so he was the puck carrier into the ozone instead as well.

One thing about Dach, a lot less shots attempts against happen when he is on the ice (and he mostly start in the neutral or dzone). I can't wait for the season to start to have a real picture (it could be skewed by a bunch of things in pre-season), but I think he might better than Suzuki defensively despite the ranging style. This should help reduce Suzuki's load.

Generating offense is a bit more complicated for Dach on the other side, despite him being good at zone exit/entries. Something to work on this season I guess.
