Vegas won a Cup with their 3rd stringer
Colorado won a Cup with Darcy f***ing Kuemper sporting a .902 save % in the playoffs

Vegas won a Cup because they took a chance on Adin Hill who had good numbers on bad teams, just another one of their like 20+ pro scouting wins.

The Oilers would never do that.

Colorado built the most loaded team of the last 7-8 years probably and Sakic still made sure to spend on goaltending (he spent a 1st on Kuemper), the team he built was so good it turned out didn't really need Kuemper after a brutal eye injury because they steam rolled everyone else.

The Oilers management is a steaming turd compared to those groups.

He also gave away the series vs the Golden Knights the year before and almost f***ed up the series clinching win vs the Kings that same year.

He sucks.
Right, Campbell had to come in and bail them out against LA too, I forgot about that. Skinner was meh and Hill went on a tear. If Brossoit didn’t get hurt, I think the Oilers might have beaten them.
Then why do the Stu Stans always quote the same two games like you just did? If there were more actual numbers, they would quote those. And to that point…

Game 4 is also a potential elimination game in any given series, why ignore that one? Oh right, because you need to cherry pick to make Stu look better.

We know that Skinner was 0.901 the entire playoffs. No selective nonsense required. No team can possibly win a Cup in today’s game with that stat line.
i think Kuemper had one of the lowest save percentages in a long time when Colorado won. If I remember right, most cup winning goalies go about .920 or higher through the playoffs.

Kuemper was a legit good goalie, he was like .920 that season. Dude got his eye almost ripped out, apparently eyes are important for goaltending.

Sakic built such a wagon of a team it didn't matter but that is the textbook example of the exception and not the rule.

Even Sakic himself went out of his way to make sure they made the Kuemper acquisition at the cost of a 1st because he wasn't 100% sold on his goaltending.

It was another classic NHL overreaction to one offside play where Duschene was 6 feet offside.

lol Oilers media won't touch that with a 50 foot pole nor will any of the Skinner apologists here.

The excuse will be 100% "It doESn'T MaaTTER anyWAyz! Stooooo is GooD foR it, cUZ playOFfs laST sPriNG gaURuntEEs iT!".

He could be 0-11 against the top teams in the league and not one of the cucks in the media corps here would grow a spine and say anything.

If Skinner played in a market like Toronto, he would be getting his ass lit on fire for that stat line, front page of the sports section zero doubt.

and yet refused to start him until Brossoit got injured and they got desperate...that's called "getting lucky"

the Oilers were within 2 goals of winning it all...but MacKinnon actually assisted on the Cup winning against Vasilevsky and didn't use the excuse "their goalie is too hard to score on!" for the Avs like many here do with McDrai

DM I received from Spector tonight. These people are f***ing clueless.

That does sound like him. What a joke of a writer. This guy's job is literally to report on and question the players on behalf of the fans.

Even if you accept his premise that Skinner is an average goaltender and that it happens to every team, is that really the standard? This team was supposed to be best in class for everything.

I think part of it is that when people say average, they register that in their brain as being good because they like consider themselves average. However statistically average in the NHL means just good enough to be on a playoff team. The goal here is to win a stanley cup. I dont get why average goaltending should be acceptable.

Also he's not even good enough to be average by pretty much every metric.

Take the electronics off the bench and make them challenge watching play live.Or at very least if defending team touches puck afterwards and failed to clear then it should be play on.I agree they are breaking it down way to much
I agree, the electronics need to come off the bench and I’ll go one further and say if you’re going to take a timeout then your ability to challenge should be taken away.

The Oilers wouldn't have made that trade for Hill to begin with, they'd have settled on Broissoit and called it a day. That's the difference between them and us, McDavid/Draisaitl would already have a Cup, maybe 2, if they had they played for those franchises/management groups.

Well, the NBA version of the Gretzky trade (or the closest comp at least) just happened so I can't think about hockey for a while lol
