I agree with your analysis, but didn't they say similar things about Carter / Richards too?

maybe Scheifele is too comfortable in Winnipeg, maybe if he comes to LA things could change, he wouldn't be "the guy" with Kopitar, Danault, Doughty, Quick in the dressing room
Richards and Carter I feel like were a different kind of "problem." Richards was one of the best two way centers in the league at the time, and Carter could at least point out the d-zone on a map (he became a good two way player in LA). Their issue was they played hard and partied just as hard. Old school professionals if you will. As far as I know they never had issues with teammates as long as those teammates didn't try to stop the party.

Scheifele on the other hand is the complete opposite. A good player that seems committed to the game, but he's atrocious defensively and in the room seems to expect things from his teammates that he refuses to do himself. From what Ive heard he's got the arrogance of a young Taylor Hall mixed in with a "try-hard" mentality that a lot of people find cringey.

I wouldn't want Scheifele anywhere near prospects, and Quick/Kopitar/Doughty would probably hate the guy.

Ok… my thoughts FWIW (very little).

Kopitar is fine if his minutes are managed fine. Personally I’m playing Kopitar, Danault and Byfield even minutes at 5/5 and the splitting up the special teams so that Byfield definitely plays regularly on the PP and Kopitar only plays PP or PK.

Byfield has to play with 2 high tempo veteran players. Kempe and someone else, either a FA like Fiala or Arvidsson off the current roster. I’d then play Arty with Danault and Moore. Kopitar then plays with the best of the rest because we have to play the long game here, maybe Fagemo gets a look. I’m not talking about how the 4th line needs to look because it won’t make or break us. However, I’d like to see Thomas and/or JAD get long looks.

If we need to sign AA we have huge issues. Trading Iaffalo is more likely to help than hinder, so I’d move him. They need to put Vilardi, Kupari and of Turcotte out there with a couple of decent players and give how Iafallo regressed in the second half Turcotte (if fit) can fill the puck hound role. Perhaps stick Kupari or Vilardi on the other wing and there’s a line for Kopitar to mentor.

On D I think we could easily end up with a right side of Doughty, Clarke and Spence. Spence’s emergence and Clarke being a potential Elite D man means they have a conundrum with Durzi. I’m not sure about him and his upside and I like his intangibles but on balance if Clarke is ready then there’s a chance he goes. The left side is Anderson, Bjornföt and AN OTHER. If theres a trade to be made it’s there, but not Chychrun, someone thats play with a bit of spite and keep the front of the net clear. Moverare is a solid 7th D, or Walker can do that job if we cannot move him.

I’d trade Roy given we’d be bringing some physicality on the left and his limitations were exposed. He probably has some trade value so time to move him on. I’d let Maatta and Edler go, I think Maatta had a solid season but he’s priced himself out of a job here IMO.

We definitely need to find a good goaltending prospect but they will probably go with the current pair for now.

They can’t just tinker at the edges though. Moving Roy and Iaffalo clears some salary for scoring help and beefing up the left hand side. They then need to show faith in the key prospects or start moving some of them. If the think Byfield and co have it in them, then put them in the right roles - the ones they know. If not then they need a major rethink because is the need Kopitar to play anything north of 18 minutes on average we have a problem. If part of the problem is that Kopitar will sulk if his ice time goes down (purely speculation on my part), then move him for anything we can get.

Reading these Scheifele comments... If you have never watched a player, which is clear by some comments maybe best to not comment on them yet alone make statements that come off as factual.

that's like saying the entire starting roster should have been 'rested' in fear of someone getting hurt. Is that reality?

Shoulda rested Doughty the last 20 games of the season too.
If your locked in against your opponent and spot, rest those that need it for injury and the vets. Deploy all those that would have been scratches. Look what happened. We were not in the playoffs last year. Its a commonly employed tactic for teams locked in. Are you Mac's kid?

Pretty sure the idea was that Arvy was already hurt and he aggravated the herniated disk before the series began, but I doubt it would have mattered because he would have aggravated it in game 1 and we won game 1 so no difference really.

It was a great season, and thats how it will be remembered as will the incorrectness of your calls last year. Clean slate next year to see if you again correlate with your avatar.

Yeah I am not being censored so you better block me now.
What was your last account ?

Dude, they alternated sitting the first two line in the last two games. You can only sit so many players because you only have so many players at your disposal. You think you have just 10 players sitting on the sidelines you can throw in? They also had ONT to worry about and who were preparing for their own playoffs. Use your brain, bud.

You really think they would have played Arvidsson in a meaningless game if he was injured?

what do you guys think about

adding Malkin 2 x ~ $6-7m per , despite his injuries. I think he can be an excellent mentor for the kids

adding Chiarot for 3-4yrs to round up our bottom LD , a guy that can go up and down the lineup when needed

these two signings would be of course contingent on the fact that we add a top forward via trade as well
no to malkin. yes to chiarot depending on the cap hit.

Doughty wants to add toughness, Blake will add toughness. Question is who??

Nikita Zadorov? Lawson Crouse? Bring back Kurtis MacDermid?? KYLE CLIFFORD??!

It’d be nice that whomever they get at defense that they can actually score goals from the blue line. 10 goals from a defender not named Doughty would be amazing.

Doughty 39 games 7 goals
Durzi 64 games 3 goals
Roy 67 games 2 goals
Edler 41 games 3 goals
Spence 24 games 2 goals
Anderson 57 games 2 goals
Maatta 66 games 1 goal
Bjornfot 70 games 0 goals

20 goals from your defense is sad. 2012 had 44 goals and 2014 had 36 for reference.

I noted at the time there were unused scratches one was Moveare the others I cant remember. No need to be condescending when you dont even know the facts.

Genuine questions: Should LA explore offloading Petersen?

Is he ever going to solidify himself as the starter? A $5 million backup is a lot. I don't want to give up on him, but he is already going to be 28 this summer...
Only if they pick up a Quick replacement and get a good offer.

I wonder if we could trade someone like Vilardi for a goalie prospect. Maybe a guy like Askarov for Vilardi+?

Not interested in Scheifele based on what I've read from Winnipeg fans on this board. Fans are dumb and all that, but in this case they seem rather convincing.

I think Deslauriers is a UFA. Also would be calling NJ about Graves availability to play in bottom LD. And look for a tough winger that can play in the top 6 wings like Bertuzzi

Ha in the exit interview Quick didn't even know he only had a year left on his contract, didn't sound like he's thinking of retiring next year.

As long as we still have Ranford I wonder if this will actually be a problem. Everytime we pick up a journeyman goalie Ranford turns them into a stud.
