GDT: Kings off-season thread

Yeah - I get that part, but I don't think another team was going to offer him that. Maybe we had to give him more money and less term and that was the compromise.

Quick was getting older and his numbers were headed down. There was nobody left behind Petersen. That was his leverage.

I can't be the only one expecting Petersen, Iafallo to bounce back next year.

Don't forget that the previous year people were saying the same about Quick. Sure, different pedigree, but there are injuries and recoveries, ebbs and flows.

Edit: add Walker to that list, too. People make them popular trade targets this offseason but I think they--like the prospects--get a chance to recoup value before they get moved at all. I could see someone targeting Iafallo the way Blake did Arvy though.

I think it’s pretty unlikely that Winnipeg would do that trade, although I definitely see Scheifele as someone the Kings would be heavily interested in, same with JT Miller.

I think this is the summer where Blake makes his big move for a veteran star.
Trading for a Miller or a Scheifele is great idea. But it brings a question I often have on these boards. What is fair value? Usually a proposed trade starts with someone offering several pieces
that they don't want for someone really good. I am curious how you(or anyone else with an opinion) would value our young players or prospects. For instants my opinion is Vilardi is worth 3rd round pick and Byfield is worth 1st round pick outside of the top 10. Turcotte has no trade value at this time due to injuries and lack of performance. Any trade for a Miller, Scheifele or Fiala is going to start with a 1st and a Clarke or a Byfield

I'll say it's likely that Petersen and Iafallo are better next year. I think something was wrong with Iafallo - just not the same player we saw in the first half. You could have literally swapped him and Moore out and they wouldn't have skipped a beat.

How much do people here like Walker? If you had a choice, which defensemen do you ship out?

I think Petersen will be better, definitely. His technique was not as solid this year and that is fixable. I suspect he’s struggled with the expectations of becoming ‘the guy’ and the bigger contract and he’s far from the first player to be affected by that. They just need to get into his head and have a reset.

I also think Iafallo will be better, but needs using like the complimentary player he is. He’s a middle 6 winger that should be nowhere near the 1st pp unit. I wouldn’t be against moving him in a package for a physical LHD.

Walker was a placeholder until prospects were ready. Clarke, Durzi and Spence are all ahead of him in the depth chart. His injury affects his trade value but he was never going to net us a big haul anyway. Maybe include him as throw in to sweeten the deal in a meaningful trade because clearing the cap hit and the contract spot is good enough for me.

I read a Buffalo fan offering a second for Walker. Think that offer is more than fair (believe Buffalo has 3x 2nd this year). Would give us a small amount of cap relief, solid return on investment with Walker, and puts Durzi into the third pairing.
They may have to do an in-season trade to see how he bounces back from injury. At his cap hit, I definitely think there are better options.

That’s true. He does seem like the odd man out there now to me. Can see Walker moved, maybe Durzi gets packaged with a 1st for first line help/blue chip goalie prospect/LHD.

Walker isn't worth any more than Troy Stretcher.
He should've.

He'd have pretty good value if the league wasn't aware of our abundance of RHD issue and the fact he's missed so much time due to injury. I would not be surprised to see Walker blossom into a Kevin Shattenkirk like player.

To me Petersen do not have athletic and mental abilities to be star in NHL.
I have watched him in AHL and I have watched him in NHL.
He was good, but never was great

I don't think he's the long term solution--otherwise the Kings wouldn't have been after Wallstedt either--but I also wouldn't be making a move to replace him right this moment either. There are plenty of problmes with the Kings that need to be solved before goaltending imo

I think LA is one Quick’s injury away from being in desperate goaltending situation.
With his age it is real possibility.
I do not want to wait for it…

That’s who I’d like them to go after as a middle 6 winger. He’s got size and speed, and if he’s on Byfield’s wing imagine the two of them with their size flying down the ice at the defense.
Marchment-Byfield-Nichushkin :eek3:

But in all seriousness, I'm not really in favor of the Kings making big UFA signings this summer. But if they do go that route, I'm just trying to point out there's probably better options than Forsberg. Nichushkin at 5x5.5M is better than Forsberg at 7x10M.

Career year for Nuke otherwise he's a 30 point guy which translates to 20 on the Kings

put him next to byfield and you might as well copy and paste all of last years' posts

they might never lose the puck though

He might help out the PP. Hehe

Iafallo & Cal could bounce back next year. The issue with them is the team has needs & they are obvious spots where cap can be freed up & their position replaced by a cheaper option. Blake did recently ink those contracts so maybe he isn't in a hurry to move them.

Teams looking for RD, Van, WPG, Buffalo. Are there any others? Van & Buffalo are looking for long term partners for Hughes & Power.

Could probably add Seattle in there. Lots of LD, only 2 RD.

I'll say this until I'm blue in the face. Get Carson Soucy from Seattle. Everything we need from on the defensive side is in one guy. I'd swap one of our RD (Durzi or Walker) and a pick for Soucy.
