I know I am one of the most pro-fighting on this board but the Kings got whooped 6-2 and 7-2 and no one does anything? That's kinda sad. Kopitar and Quick got run. Thank god Greene made Torres pay a little.

The Kings are the big and tough team we used to be and teams know that now. The top 6 forwards are softies on this team.

I agree. Not advocating any cheap stuff, but show a set of balls and stand up for yourselves and your teammates. Don't crawl into a shell and cower. I feel like they've had the will beaten out of them.

I also love how opposing fans are mocking the "built for the playoffs" line. Pure ignorance. Fact is, no team was better over the last two playoffs collectively than the Kings. Stanley Cup and Western Conference Final. How did the other elite teams fair in that time frame...

Pittsburgh - a roller coaster of a team. Pretty ugly after the Cup.

Chicago - won the Cup in 2010 and didn't make it out of the first round the following two years. Won the cup again last year.

Boston - won the Cup and lost in the first round the following year. Made it back to the Finals and lost to Chicago.

The Kings were due for a down year. Retool, recharge, and make another run next year.

Kings need to start moving players in the off season then. We won the cup when Colorado and St. Louis were still building. Those two teams are excellent now. The Kings can't just sit back and think they have the talent already to compete in the West.

Sad thing is Voynov (of all players) and Greene have gotten into scrums with the Sharks for being near Quick. The other 5 Dmen don't do squat if they come near Quick. In game one, the sharks made some runs at Quick to get him off his game, and NOBODY really stood up for Quick and made them pay.

Like the great Bluto says, "What the **** happened to the Kings I used to know? Where's the spirit? Where's the guts, huh?"

Again, he might or might tnot return. It's a huge gamble, if Richards falls further off the cliff, absolutely no one will want him. Get rid of him a year early when he has value or get rid of him when he has no value. If DL waits for MR it can be a huge mistake.

It worked for Brad Richards and the Rangers. It is a gamble whether Lombardi keeps him or moves him. At the end of the day, he has to make a decision that'll help improve his team.

Agreed but not because of what other teams are doing. The Kings locker room appears to have grown stale. Ship some players out and inject the locker room with some fresh faces and a new staff for Sutter.

Look at the Blackhawks, they blew up the team due to cap constraints but were able to come back later and win another cup. Kings need to rebuild the roster and get some fresh faces. Things are getting stale and complacency is setting in.

13 goals in 2 games in the playoffs is unacceptable.

Quick has arguably been the most physical Kings player so far in this series.

I think when people are saying the King's lack hunger, it has a direct correlation to Sutter, specifically his "take things level headed" mindset.

Look, it is a key to competition that you shouldn't over react to losses, and you should leave your emotions out of the equation. That keeps you even in play and stops you from over reacting. I have years of competitive experience, so I know this well. If you let losses hit you personally, your not going to get out of them quickly. the key to this mindset, however, is focusing on how you are doing, and focusing on doing well, no matter the outcome.

However, this lack of emotion, this belief that things will change, can also lead to something else: a sense of entitlement. And I think that's what the Kings have right now.

2012, what did we hear. "We're going to keep playing our best and see what happens." That is a mindset focuses on the process, on working hard despite actual outcome.

2014, what do we hear, ALL YEAR, when the Kings are playing badly, not scoring, etc.?

"We're just trying to get ready for playoffs." Brushing off the issue, expecting that things will be different in playoffs.
"We think we have the core here to win it again." Entitlement, expectation of going deep without a focus on the process.
"Pucks will go in eventually." Expectation of change, entitlement to goals, rather than process focused.

This team seems to have become complacent because they EXPECT that something will happen, and they will eventually magically rebound. The stats, numbers, everything says that should happen, but it doesn't happen magically. The Kings need to be critical of their play, mad about how far they have deviated from their game, get angry at the Sharks for handling them so well, and be ready to win tomorrow. The time for waiting is over. Tomorrow is a must win situation.

I think it will be good for this team to lose early though. Get a real taste of whats it like to not be a contender. Last year was easy enough to write off, "Oh we got to the WCF, thats pretty good." But a loss in the first round to a team which we have beaten all year, that will sting. And hopefully get the Kings to focus on playing well rather than playing average and hoping to win.

Also, the quotes were paraphrasing.

locker room getting stale? did i just read that right? the team just broke the 100pt threshold for just the fourth time in its history even after a god-awful January. i swear, some people on here are acting like we're the god damn Edmonton Oilers. pull your head out of your you-know-what

Clifford did try to start something but the refs have been really really quick to break anything up between the players. You won't see any fights even if the players want to.

Brad Richards had a really bad year, but it was very uncharacteristic. He also is physically fit too.

It's pure luck that B. Richards worked. If he didn't, NYR would be screwed.

The window to move Richards is small. And DL has to make a business move. No matter how hard it is for him.

Time to mess with the Sharks and throw this at them with the advantage of last change:

Brown-Kopitar-Gaborik
Pearson-Carter-Toffoli
King-Stoll-Lewis
Clifford-Richards-Williams

Muzzin-Doughty
Regehr-Voynov
Mitchell-Martinez

Jones

I do agree with that. Probably the Kings feel entitled which has made them complacent.

Switch Brown with King and I think those lines are going to really mess up SJ's line matching.

You're not trying hard enough.

That is giving this core another pass......Sutter will be the last coach Lombardi hires.

Even so if Sutter is fired, he will be replaced with a (similar coach).

It's time to start looking at the Core for lack of emotion.

All you ever hear about Sutter from EVERYONE in the NHL (players included).

Is Sutter is an INTENSE Guy.......

Sutter does not lack emotion or intensity......That has defined Sutter as a person his whole life.

It's time to start shipping out players for lack of production and emotion.

Lombardi resigns guy's like Clifford/Lewis....Then everyone wonders why the Kings can't produce offense.

Then where has their heart been the last two seasons?

Their heart has been in the Stanley Cup final and WCF in the last two seasons as well as approaching franchise record seasons. I know expectations have been raised, but please recognize success too.

We may not be seeing results in the immediate moment but let's not let that completely invalidate where we've been and very recently.

Also meant to ask, what happened with Brown at the end of the game?

Presumably got tossed for chirping, dunno. Was lame imo.

From the insider, I think this is an important point:

"Of course, it’s still a 2-0 series deficit. Goal differential means nothing. The Chicago Blackhawks are trailing 2-0, and they lost one game in overtime and one game in triple overtime. Circumstances across the Western Conference entering Game 3s haven’t favored teams opening the playoffs on the road."
