Carter had 26 goals in 48 games last year. It wasn't unreasonable to think he could get to 50 or at the very least hit 40. Again, I don't think this is fault, I just don't think the system we employ rewards offensive players.

Brown also spent the majority of the season on another line so you can point to Brown a bit but he's not the sole cause for less points. And who exactly was Richards bringing down? Since the olympic break he played some time with Carter and a random LW. Carter, during that time had 7 points. After that point, he put Richards with Clifford and Lewis. They put up their normal numbers. Carter was with the rookies. During that time, Carter had 6 points so no difference in production from him. The only person who might've suffered truthfully is Williams who just doesn't mesh well with Richards and spent probably a month where neither of them were really doing anything. But other than that, playing with Richards hasn't changed anyone's production for better or worse. And yeah, Voynov and Muzzin couldn't buy a goal. How does that hurt my argument that this system does not reward offense?

And I know that everything is on video, but how exactly do you explain losing to this team two weeks ago 2-1 and now giving up 13 goals in 2 games. Maybe they started paying closer attention to the tapes and saw how to better get through the Kings. It's just hard for me to say they aren't playing hard enough or they just aren't executing the system right, when they just suddenly start losing by 5 goals. Did they suddenly forget to how the system worked? Or is it because this grinding style we have can't keep up the pace with a much faster and skilled team?

Hockey systems are as old as the game itself.

No one does anything new......The Wings have been running the same system for two decades now.

It's about making the correct play and beating your match-ups.

The Kings are doing none of those things.

Teams knew how to beat the Kings in 2012....They simply couldn't do it.

Then I don't know how people can say getting outplayed consistently and winning the series is heart. Heart is not having the talent and out playing the talented team imo because there was barely any compete from the Kings last playoffs. Just lots of opportunistic plays and luck. And the other teamss sshooting themselves in the foot.

The Kings were decimated with injuries last year.

Sharks fan coming in peace. I would not throw in the towel if I were some of you. This series could very well be tied in a few days. I hope it doesn't but that's the reality. Highly doubt the Kings just roll over either. The first two games came as a shock and still don't think it's completely indicative of how this series will end. Should be some good ones at Staples.

Thanks for your perspective, appreciate it. The only reason I don't think the Kings will play great tomorrow is because, they just laid down and took it first two games. And that collapse yesterday, I don't see any team coming back from a loss like that, especially when they don't look totally invested into the series.

The reality is last year in the playoffs, our first post Cup run year, we changed only 3 players.

Added Toffoli, Muzzin, and substituted in Regehr for Mitchell.

This year all we did was add Gaborick.

Same line-up that went to the Finals in core pretty much. Added a few guys and took away Gagne, Richardson, Fraser, Scuderi, and Penner.

Are Muzzin, Toffoli, Gaborik and RR going to win us a Cup? No way.

The most alarming part is the Kings don't look invested at all in playoff hockey.

They look bored , and irritated that they have to play games still.

Not even really worried, the Hawks looked pretty bad in their two first round exits.

Heck Toews right now is playing like Garbage, Keith too.

I guess sometimes......You just don't have it.

Kings going out in the first round, may actually be better for the Core.

Maybe they work harder next year.

They aren't playing as bad as many think. They are marked men. What coaches should be doing with player like that is using them to draw defense and open up space in the offensive zone.

Players like Brown are not marked and still can't generate offense.

Clifford did try to start something but the refs have been really really quick to break anything up between the players. You won't see any fights even if the players want to.

Losers do their best: winners go home and **** the prom queen.

Clifford had all the time in the world to actually drop his gloves and have that be a fight. Clifford should of started wailing on Toews or Crawford last season when they were getting smoked in Game 2.

This team does not know how to send a message in a blow out because, well, they never get blown out. Also, Sutter doesn't really condone it.

You bet your ass Mike Brown or Torres would of been taking big runs if the shoe was on the other foot. Hell, they've been taking bigger runs than Kings players have and that is when they are winning by 5 goals.

One team wants it a whole lot more than the other one right now. SJ won't have their crowd to feed off of tomorrow but, regardless, Kings have to win one game up there and that seems near impossible at this point barring an unfortunate injury or injuries to key Sharks players.

Again, I point to the regular season. Kings lost this back in January. 1-12 road playoff record since Game 5 of the SCF. They don't flip a switch and they aren't road warriors.

I felt drawing SJ meant a first round exit but I still had faith they could pull it off because of Quick. Anything could still happen, of course, but nobody since DET/PIT with their back-to-back Finals appearances has won the Cup and then made the WCF/ECFs in consecutive seasons. Toss in the Olympics and two compacted scheduled seasons and you have guys playing a lot of hockey. This is not a good thing for the older, slower defensemen on this team or for a team that is built upon a relentless forecheck and hitting.

Losing in the first round and getting time off would not be the worst thing in the world. If it were to happen, I'd prefer it to be embarrassing and a little eye-opening. I'd like to go back to this team not being favored to win as they have generally performed poorly when they are expected to win or are not backed into a corner. They remind me of myself in college in the sense that term paper is not being completed until the night before it is due because I can't be bothered to even think about it until it is do-or-die. That's why I won't be shocked if this thing is tied up 2-2 after Thursday but this series has felt like Chicago last season. Sharks in 5 would be my Vegas bet at this point in time.

I also think Sutter is covering for his guys with the injury thing except for Doughty. Lots of wishful thinking around here in regards to those that believed he was going to be fine.

Hardest trophy to win in all of sports; there is good reason for that.

Kopitar-Physical
Williams-Soft
Gaborik-Soft
Brown-Soft lately
Richards-Soft lately
Carter-A little bit physical. More so this series than any of these other chumps.
King-Big Teddy Bear

That about sums it up. To add insult to injury none of the above are FAST. So the Kings are now slow and not physical.

I hope in the off-season they add an agitator and a speedster. They need both...badly.

I can't imagine how anyone on the Kings would look enthusiastic after losing 6-3 and then 7-2. They're not supermen. They're very very human.

Hell, Brown even said they got their ***** kicked. It's the best way to describe what happened and I have never known anyone to feel good about that.

I just don't buy that he would have any value, the contract this year may not have been worst in the league, but it certainly was in the team picture. When you are making almost $6 million a year and are one of your teams worst players for 3/4 of the season, you know it's a huge problem.

Dallas fans say they may want him, but I have a hard time believing Jimmy Nill would want anything to do with that contract, and he knows the Kings are a team that will spend to the cap, so why help out a potential playoff rival down the road by taking $36 million of cap space away that you know they will re-use. Dallas is probably 2/3 years away from contending, getting MR aint pushing them over the top and when they are ready to contend they aren't going to want to have an albatross likely 4th line player taking up all the cap space that could be used to better the team. I think the Dallas fans on the main board are much like many people on this board were for awhile, they were judging the player based on past returns and not current and more importantly future returns. Management teams have scouts, video and advanced stats to judge players, and none of those things are going to make anyone want anything to do with MR, and certainly not for a younger and better roster player.

Edmonton and Florida you say, well yes they are near the cap floor so adding $6 million to their cap right now wouldn't be an issue, but the management teams in Florida and Edmonton have to believe their teams are around four years away from contending (don't laugh) and again, do you think in 2018 or 2019 when Florida is looking to add a key piece they are going to want the cap space and not have it being used on a 34 year old Mike Richards. Edmonton and Florida are the types of team that would be interested in MR if/when he is bought out and they can sign him for 3-4 years less at probably a 50-60% discount on what they would pay him now.

We will see, I am still of the opinion that unless the Kings retain a good portion of the cap hit or take back another awful contract in the deal that the compliance buyout is going to be the only way to rid ourselves of this unsightly contract. The compliance buyout was negotiated into the CBA for situations just like this.

I'd get rid of Brown before Richards since he would yield a higher return and give more cap flexibility for Dean. At some point leadership has to be held accountable for the poor results this year and Brown's cap hit is an albatross as well.

Dean was about to make leadership accountable after he canned Murray, and it didn't turn around quickly after that firing. The team was still coasting until Brown was on the verge of being shipped out of LA. Once he heard the rumors, he went into beast mode. Now he's back to pre-trade rumor mode.

Richards was dealing with an illness during the olympic break, and hasn't regained his strength. Dean knows more about Richards health than anyone else, and doubt he is on the way out.

The whole team has been soft for the entire year if ask me, there has been maybe a handful of games ,where the kings pounded a team .

Kopitar is just a badass. So strong and so responsible.
Williams was pretty tough up until this season. He's had a pretty rubbish season.
Gaborik is never going to be a physical presence and doesn't need to be.
Brown is having a down year and is probably banged up.
Richards is neutered from his concussions. Hesitation has destroyed his game and his body is fading.
Carter - note Gaborik.
King has never been physical. He certainly has the build though.

None of the above are fast? Really? Maybe not in this series, but Carter, Kopitar, and Gaborik can fly.

Agree on the final point.

Well they have a lot too be happy about. This SJ core just may be showing signs of finally tired of losing in the playoff's.

I give full props to the Sharks, the Kings are getting outclassed.

You know who has made a huge impact on SJ I think....Larry Robinson.

This. I hate, really hate, all of SJ - their fanbase, their media, Joe Thornton's dumb farmer face. I never got the whole "dance gif war" feigned friendship thing with them. They're a major rival.

They're outworking and outplaying the Kings in all corners of the ice. They have absurd depth with guys like Hertl and Pavelski. They SHOULD be tired of losing in the playoffs. Thornton is on the wrong side of 30 by a fair margin and hasn't sniffed a championship. Same with Marleau. These guys have been labeled playoff chokers for a reason. It's about time they actually looked like contenders with some depth to back it up.

This team is going to need to inject cheap, talented youth moving forward to complement the core. Linden Vey needs to be given every opportunity to play next year; same with Pearson.

Did Chicago add significant FA's after getting bounced by Phoenix for their second Round 1 loss in a row? I think it was only Roszival and he wasn't highly sought after because most believed he would never walk, let alone skate, again after taking the hit from Brown.

What they did have was Leddy, Saad and Shaw really step-up and become important pieces to a team that had committed the majority of its cap space to 5-6 guys.

Vey, Pearson, Toffoli, McNabb, Shore, Forbort etc... are so damn important to this fun ride continuing. Do they start using this youth more next season, as they should, or do they continue to run Richards, Stoll and bring back one of Mitchell and/or Greene?

Going to be interesting to see how this plays out. This team needs tweaks and not to be blown up. Time to see if this development system is as great as it has been touted to be the last few seasons.

Lol, our dear ol' captain is invisible being matched up against titans of hockey such as Raffi Torres, Mike Brown, and James Sheppard.

What a joke season this guy has had. I've never been a huge Brown fan, but this 13/14 campaign, what an embarrassment.

he had an awful season, no doubt about it. You don't have to be a fan, but you have to at least respect his talents. He's got a very unique skillset--only two players over the last decade have had x (I forget the exact number) number of hits and points, and those two are Brown and Ovechkin. I'll look harder for the stat soon. Regardless, the guy is a year in and out 50-60 point league leader in hits, that's a very unique player, so you can not like him for various reasons, but at least acknowledge that he's a damn fine player.
