Coaching and preparation. I don't know if Kompon is one of the best in the business with video, but Payne is clearly one of the worst. I've literally never seen a team get dismantled this systematically. I shouldn't have a feeling of terror after a dominating shift simply because we line change.

I agree with you. And part of me is not thrilled with how things were managed heading into the playoffs. Guys just seem slower than usual and I don't know if that has something to do with coasting it in after we clinched a spot.

But really, we have been evenly matched for the last two years. The last playoffs was indicative of how a SJ/LA matchup should go. The regular season in indicative how it should go. But I don't know what this is. They averaged two goals against per game and I could go games at a time without seeing an odd man rush. There was no warning or signs that this was going to happen. I mean, is this really all about a lack of preparation?

When did the Kings forget how to hit and hit hard? When Brown semi ran Quick in game one why didn't anyone respond and run Niemi? Why are we allowing the Sharks to target Doughty and Kopitar? This team is too nice or Sutter's dot get mad philosophy just sucks. Emotion is helping San Jose. No emotion from the Kings leads to 6-3 an 7-2 beat downs. What's next, 8-1? 9-0 in game 4?

I was hoping a deep playoff run would give Dean some leverage with Gaborik, but that's not happening. I wouldn't be shocked if he walked now. The only way he stays is for gross overpayment and we simply don't have the money as is.

Not that anyone else has showed up, but, is Gaborik worth keeping? We're crying about the contracts of Brown and Richards, but what is Gaborik doing to worry about him leaving?

Interesting thought - would the Kings swap Richards for Gagner straight up?

Our luck he'd be reignited in the frozen tundra and burn us. I'm sure a cap floor team would love to haw him and give up a decent piece.

Richards + something from Edm to Florida
Gagner + something from Fla to LA
? + something from LA to Edmonton

I really think it's Sutter's don't get mad philosophy. Don't get too high, don't get too low, be a robot.

Hasn't there been more than a few stories of him going ballistic in the locker room? Didn't Muzzin say he ripped an alarm panel off the wall in their locker room?

The Kings have played 38, now 40, playoff games between 2012 and 2014. That's half a season, with the intensity of playoff hockey, so you might be able to double the impact. They haven't had a healthy defense since Game 6 against NJ. Those playoff games have to take a toll. There's a reason no team has won back to back Cups in a while, and 3 in a row even further back. No team is deep enough anymore to withstand all of that.

Chicago went out in the 1st round two years in a row between Cups. Boston went out in the 1st round between trips to the Final. The Kings are one of the few teams in recent history to have gone to at least the conference final 2 years in a row. Sometimes the body just isn't willing, especially against a team that is doing what the Hawks did against the Kings last year, only multiplied by like 10.

Like I said, overhaul the defense with an emphasis on speed and retool the offense, and this team is right back into contender status. Kopitar, Carter, Doughty, and Quick is a ridiculous core.

I am pretty shocked that our Defense and our star Goalie has allowed 13 goals in just 2 games. I don't know when the last time that has happened but I'd assume its the first time in the DL era. As for the answer to the Kings suckage, I would say that it is a collective team effort.

I find myself asking several questions this morning... where is the leadership, where's the coaching and where's the fire?

Leadership, Dustin Brown is the Captain and during his tenure as Captain the Kings have been known to go through droughts and have coasted several times. It's the team's M.O. under Brown, and Brown only woke up once he learned that he was on the verge of being traded. It motivated him to play well, and now...I just don't see the same player that delivered big hits and provided offense. May be time to get a new voice in the locker room.

Second, coaching. I am not seeing the adjustments...and if they are making adjustments, I don't see it. The team got blown out in game 1, and Sutter took the blame for not having the team prepared and ready to go. Kings looked just as lost in game 2 when the Sharks came roaring back. This team looks unprepared by the coaching staff and they have little time to get this team ready for game 3.

Third where's the pride and fire? I don't see it, we simply just took it in the *** last night and said thanks see you in the next game.

Bottom line is that DL needs to look at the culture he's created with long term contracts, complacency has set in with players and staff.

Ditto.

Key word I mentioned to a buddy on Facebook - complacency. Maybe the players are satisfied with a single ring. I'll tell you what, as a fan, I'm not. I want more.

Anyone that wants to rest on their laurels needs to have their role as a player on this team evaluated. I know Dean isn't satisfied winning one Cup along with Quick and Kopitar. I've heard all three outwardly confirm that many times.

He's scored 30+ goals in 7 seasons.

True, but also only 23 in his last 88 games. I'm just saying, since we're talking about contracts and production for players on this team, is Gaborik worth keeping? Outside of 2003 with Minnesota, he's got 9 goals and 18 points in 38 playoff games. He's looked as lost as any of the other forwards so far. If the Kings have enough problem contracts, why risk adding yet another for a 32 year old?

Fox was talking about it the other day. How Sutter doesn't want his guys getting mad during games it doesn't do anything to help them yada yada. I think getting mad would help. The idea of moving Brown is laughable too. People want a new voice but who's going to be the new voice. Kopitar is not a rah rah guy. Neither is Carter. Doughty is still too immature. Who's left? Richards isn't long for this team/league with his recent play and isn't a rah rah guy either. Williams might be but he's likely gone too. Regehr is 34. Mitchell is 36. Greene is a goner. Not too many choices. This team isn't full of passionate leaders like other teams. And trading the only captain to lead is to the Stanley cup 2 seasons after is a mistake in my opinion. I stand by my opinion that you retool the d for speed and mobility, look at moving Richards and Williams, and get some young hungry kids up and making an impact.

All I know is Gaborik and Kopitar is the combo this team has lacked for many, many years.

I love Doughty and wouldn't take a single defender over him. That being said, he's not captain material at all. Yet. I agree on all points.

I've defended Brown so many times this season and STILL stand by that. He's having a down year - the first of his career.

I thought this too. Could be a good basis on a deal. I would rather move Richards for a LHD though.
Here are my pure panic moves (aka moves I would regret right after, or regret typing right after a kings win)
1) Trade Richards to Dallas for Goligoski
2) Trade Quick to Winnipeg for Kane
3) Sign Miller
4) Trade Brown for....

Edit: I already regret it.

A Dallas fan on the main board seems to think a Richards for one of Roussel, Garbutt or potentially Chiasson could work. Would you guys do it? Which one would you prefer?

Maybe this is the Sharks year? Of course if the Kings win Game 3 and do it playing Kings-style hockey the pressure will go back onto the Sharks, who will have the choking label on them until they lift the Cup. That's a lot of pressure and they need 14 more wins to get there. As a Kings fan there isn't a single thing to be happy about, no moral victories, no shot count battles, they have been dominated. It's like Sensei Kreese is the Sharks coach and he told his players he doesn't want them beat...

Before we start trading or getting rid of guys, I think they need to take a better look at the offensive system. Not even Kopitar with how great a season he's had, actually finished with less points than his normal 82 game season. Obviously, Richards and Brown are the two bad season standouts but the sad thing is if you look at the team leaders, their numbers aren't really out of the ordinary this year. Carter, who I truly thought would go for the 50 mark in goals after his half season last year, finished with only one more goal than 2013. Williams was 16 points below his last full season. King, our most productive LW, had only 30 points. Toffoli, who I think we expected to have a breakout season, had 29 points. Gaborik has been pretty good but not exactly up to his usual quality of scoring.

My point is, when you have this much talent on your team, guys who have scored a lot more elsewhere or in previous years and no one is playing up to their norms, maybe you need to start tweaking the system before getting rid of the players. What happens if we get new guys and the same stuff happens again?

Secondly, this defensive system has been ripped to shreds by the sharks and I don't think anyone expects their team to score 8 goals. So the defense is the issue right now. If this system is this predictable that the other team can score 13 goals when they are properly prepared, then it definitely needs to be worked on above all else.
