Based on every interview DL has given over the past three years. He calls the players his "sons" for Christ's sake.
You believe Lombardi won't get rid of anyone, but all you have to go on is a time when he hasn't had to get rid of anyone. In terms of playoff success, it's been the golden age of Kings hockey over the previous 2 years.
Jack Johnson is a poor example, considering the rumored bad blood over the Red Berenson thing, and also considering DL was basically forced into making a move that deadline or face losing his job.
Didn't Johnson sign an extension after the rumored bad blood? Wasn't that rumor one of the things that people thought would keep Johnson from signing with the Kings?
Lombardi is in a tough position a couple years ago, and pulls the trigger on a deal to send one of his first building blocks out of town. Before that, he trades away two of the young players that I don't think anyone would've thought he would've ever traded. It's not like Lombardi hasn't done things when needed.
Like I said, it will be a cold day in hell when Brown or Richards are traded/waived/whatever under DL's watch. I have my doubts as to whether he can even let Greene go.
Sure, trading Richards or Brown after the seasons they've had would be a bit difficult.
DL is not perfect. I can commend the guy but I can also criticize. He's hamstrung the team with three lifetime contracts in Richards, Brown, and Quick, all three of which we'll likely hate by their end.
Well everyone already hates the Richards one. I'm not sure what else Lombardi was supposed to do with Quick's contract. He was coming off a Cup and Conn Smythe win. Same with Brown. Who knew he'd be as bad as he's been since last year's playoff started?
How about we see how the rest of this playoff series plays out, and then we wait to see what Lombardi does or does not do this summer? Just too many definitive statements thrown around over the last few days. The Kings cannot win. Lombardi won't do A, B, and C. Nobody knows any of that for sure. Nobody would've said that the Sharks would make what the Hawks did to the Kings last year look like pee-wee hockey either.
