Kings claim Brendan Leipsic on waivers from Vancouver

If you dont get fair compensation for Toffoli you dont trade him period. If you sold him low you should be fired for being a moron on mismanaging important asset.I personallydint think Toffolishould be traded and think he is part of the future.Theres more important players that should go before Toffoli.

With Hagelin, Thompson, and Fantenberg as the only expiring contracts, I think people might be disappointed with the deadline, unless Blake trades everyone at a loss like Pearson. Does anyone need Clifford for next year even if Blake retains 50%? Other teams have their own $800k young players they want in the lineup over some 4th line vet with no talent.

Lets hope Blake works miracles.

This is definitely not true. He is having an off year, but if Toffoli consistently scores 20+ goals a year. He still has good trade value. Toffoli should return a 1st rounder, 2nd round, and really good prospect in my opinion. Just look at what Tatar got last year at the deadline.

I think Blake should test this theory.

I think Carts will bring back a first.
Muzzin/Amart might bring a first.
Toffoli who knows.

Lesser players have brought back first.

Carter is an interesting case. How many teams that are legitimate SC contenders can afford his additional 3 years? Most of these teams are already bumping up against the cap or soon will be. Given his age and contract, acquiring Carter would require the Kings to retain probably close to 50% to get anything more than a comparable veteran back. Would LA do that?

True. A team like Carolina wouldn’t take him for a first. His contract isn’t outrageous but teams up against the cap would have to send money back the other way. Expiring contract + 1st would help LA.

If LA retains on that reasonable contract, they better get a 1st plus.

Blake may want to keep him anyway.

Seems like Carter is frequently asked about by other fans tho.

Carolina won't touch him for a 1st unless they are firmly in the playoffs at the TDL. No way they risk a lottery pick on a 34 year-old with 3 years ahead of him. Even a top 20 pick seems too rich for that.

When Carter has 13 goals, 30 pts and is -15 at the deadline, no one will want him. Even with some retained. Will be extremely lucky to get a 2nd rd pick or a prospect
better than the 2 waiver pickups from the last 2 days.

Clifford Carter Toffoli is the worst 2nd line in the NHL. There are better third lines in the NHL.
Now that Blake could not get Nylander and WD decided that Kovalchuk is "an interesting player"
and is trying to find his spot - which is either the 3rd or 4th line....Blake is now picking up waiver wire
forwards. So I would think that since Blake now knows Pearson was a failure and now can see Carter and Toffoli are also """near failures to utter failures""" he must have a plan of some sort. He was not (nor how could he be?) prepared for 85% of the players to underperform and be this bad. Not one of us expected it, either....sure, many thought Kovalchuk was not the answer, but no one could have expected this level of total brutalness - #31 in the NHL and #31 offense and 29th penalty kill.

He is probably limited on what he can do. What can he do at this point? No one wants most of these players at this point. I do blame him for hiring WD. The worst.

It's so funny to listen to Faust and Fox get excited if the Kings make a good play...last night when Carter shot a 40 foot slapper 4 feet wide of the net, Faust got all excited about how that was a good shot! LOL.

That’s a ridiculous statement... how many teams can actually say they have a legitimate 2C? I’d swap Carter to Carolina for Pesce or to the Avs for Zadorov + 2nd.. the value is there, your just under the assumption that because this team is playing like crap they’ll sell cheap... just wait for the annual winning streak for them to prop up their value and you’ll get much more than you just listed. Also, let’s not forget the annual deadline madness that overcomes teams that feel they’re one player away... ask yourself what’s the point of moving Carter @ 50% retained????

You’re completely out of touch with your commentary. Teams not to not want and value those players, they covet them... with that said, why offer up goods to someone whom you perceive to lack any sort of leverage?? Team see that we suck and are hoping we pull off all types of Pearson type deals. Put Carter on the Avs and what do you think happens? Martinez on the Lightning, Toffoli on the Leafs or the Hurricanes or Muzzin with the any of the PO contenders??? Yeah that’s right, they’ll play up on a much better team that has a reliable FO and coaching staff. This FO is riding this team like a bicycle without a seat( think about that), the best bet is to hold until the deadline then unload with the expectation that player production with take an upswing and the returns will as well..

It's like everyone else on here is out of touch and value these King players like it was 2014. Their play of today, right now, reflects their value. 2 months ago, no one would have believed Pearson would be traded for Hagelin! Unless Sprong or a pick was included....that's how it's going to be with many of the rest here, when they are moved.

Toronto wouldn't touch Toffoli - he couldn't play in their top 9 and they have no room for his salary next year, he has one year left. Carter isn't worth much at all. He'll be 34, soft, easy to play against, production way down, his line the worst 2nd line in NHL...and he has 3 more years on his contract! Unless he somehow scores about 10 goals between now and Feb 26, will be lucky to get a 2nd rd pick for him. Muzzin and Marty surely have value. Quick has the most value of all the tradeable vets...unless Brown, Kopitar, DD ask to be traded. I hope Voynov is reinstated and they get something decent for him. RHD still under 30 and 2 rings.

Agree to disagree on Carter. Deadline deals get crazy. Carter has term but it’s relatively cheap. He stays in good shape. I steal think he has value. It’s hard to judge a team mired in funk. Carter is a legit scorer.

Leipsic??? What Leipsic???

Leipsic was the most hated WHL player in modern memory whose play style at the time justifiably drew comparisons to Brad Marchand.

For whatever reason that part of his game is completely gone and he now brings no physical or agitator dimension whatsoever. If you're looking at old WHL highlights and expecting anything like that in 18-19, prepare to be disappointed.

What he is now is a smallish, soft skill player with a bit of playmaking ability. Average skater - can be shifty but has awful edge control and falls down constantly. Poor shot and despite the nice hands he shows passing the puck or stickhandling has terrible finish on actual scoring chances. Has some PP utility.

And he's really, really, really bad defensively.

In the right situation with the right linemates and heaps of PP time he maaaaybe might be able to produce in spurts the way Ryan Spooner has over the course of his career. But he'll bleed goals doing it and isn't a guy who will ever stick on an actual good team.

Was handed the perfect situation in Vancouver with his former junior coach who gave him a way longer rope than he deserved (really deserved to be waived after the preseason) and he blew it here. Hard to see him making it anywhere else after that.

Thanks for the breakdown. My hope is that he either finally puts it together (which isnt likely) or is a warm body until the end of the season when the Kings start sending out vets.

So...by January 1 (if no more roster moves)

Adding: Leipsic, Scherbak, then adding: Kovalchuk, Lewis, Hagelin, Brodzinski, Vilardi. 7 forwards that the Kings did not have on team as of last night.
Of course, Vilardi may go back to juniors and Brodzinski probably to Ontario. Still, this is nucking futts.

I don't think Brodzinski goes to Ontario unless a conditioning stint. He's not waiver exempt on a one-way deal. He was likely going to make the opening night roster. Don't think the Kings are writing him off.

Looks like Carter is going to be chronically underrated until he is moved.

We've been spoiled, you should look at 2Cs around the league.

I would agree, Carts is no different then the rest of the team at sucking. I dont know why he's been turned into the whipping boy when the only damn players being "productive" are our goalies.

I can't wait to see people complain why we can't find a 2c for the next 5 years. Or we have to pay player X 7 mil to play the 2c position when Carter was only 5 and change.

He is clearly more valuable to the Kings than anything they could reasonably get in a trade for him. I've consistently said that on any Carter trade thread. Carter isn't going anywhere.

Yeah, I just don't see it happening either. Everyone wants to trade him and think they will get a boat load of stuff for the future team. Guess what, what if the futures are crap and we're stuck with 3c/4c playing the 2c position just like the 2000's teams? Hell, we still can't find a solid left winger for Kopitar.
