Rumor: KINGS 2018-19 Season - The Luc and Rob ****show

There's that, I thought they gave him a full NMC, my bad,

At least that means they can get out of it in 3-4 years if needed, doubt they will or could but the option is there.
 
Some of the names on that NMC list are baffling. Lucic, Frans Nielsen, and Ben Bishop particularly stand out. As much as we complain about the Kings having some bad contracts, there are quite a few questionable ones.

Remarkably, Washington isn't in a bind with any of their star players.

That's mainly because they are producing, if Kopitar and company were producing, no one would say LA was in a bind, but Ovechkin, Oshie, and Backstrom all have modified NMC, which if they stop producing, would put them in a bind....

Been saying this for a long while, glad others are picking up on some of the goofier situations around the league as well.

I will be interesting how many more names are on that list. I imagine GM's have learned and will not hand out NMC for 2021-22

Ovechkin's contract is up when he is 35 years of age, but he is a generational talent. Backstrom's contract is done when he is age 33. Nothing at all like Kopitar, who is not a generational talent and his deal.

Oshie's contract is up when he is 38 years old, and that deal is every bit as bad as Kopitar's deal, which ends when he is 37 years old.

I mean, if we are comparing apples to apples.

And? LOL I said they are producing....that's why they aren't hindering, if they weren't producing, they would be hindering would they not?

Sure, if Kopitar was scoring 30+ goals EVERY season, no problem. He isn't doing that though, so it's a mute point.

Which is EXACTLY what I said....it's hindering because Kopitar isn't producing....glad you can agree with that....

That was way harder than it should have been.

TB is only 4 goals from DOUBLING the Kings in goals.
TB has played 1 more game, so actually beating the Kings in GA too.

In hindsight, should have given Kopitar all that money over all those years? Should they have dealt him or signed and traded him for younger players?

I get the Doughty signing - still only 27-28. The Brown contract was bad but not so bad since Sutter was canned. We inherited the Carter contract. Quick is underpaid.

Without a 10 million dollar Kopitar, the Kings would have major cap space. Hopefully they could have obtained a young center in the trade. That would have left them with Carter, young center, Kempe and Thompson/Amadio playing center. Vilardi would be waiting for his shot as well.
