Blake needs to figure out was his goal is before he makes anymore deals. How does he want the team to play? Does he want to rebuild or try to retool? This team has no identity nor a system that utilizes the players properly.

You can't just add fast unskilled players to a slow skilled team and say now we are a fast skilled team.

Based on the rumor mill, I hope he thinks really hard before trading Martinez because that defense is trash without him and you better be rebuilding and not retooling if you trade him.

In hindsight, should have given Kopitar all that money over all those years? Should they have dealt him or signed and traded him for younger players?

I get the Doughty signing - still only 27-28. The Brown contract was bad but not so bad since Sutter was canned. We inherited the Carter contract. Quick is underpaid.

Without a 10 million dollar Kopitar, the Kings would have major cap space. Hopefully they could have obtained a young center in the trade. That would have left them with Carter, young center, Kempe and Thompson/Amadio playing center. Vilardi would be waiting for his shot as well.

When are you trading Kopitar? In 15-16? When he's a UFA in a few months? What are you getting for a rental/$10m player? Trade him at the 2015 draft? What young center are you getting?

Pretty much.

My complaint about 'no identity' is currently just as much about "blake has no vision."

So the Blackhawks are scouting the Kings just as heavily as the Lightning.

I think they're trying to figure out how to suck more, so they're closely monitoring the Kings.

Elliotte Friedman's 31 Thoughts
13. The Blackhawks are really pounding the pavement. GM Stan Bowman was at Arizona/Los Angeles on Tuesday. Cap-ologist Kyle Davidson made their last trip, which is not a regular occurrence. They had two scouts at Los Angeles/Vancouver last Tuesday, three at Dallas/Calgary on Wednesday and two more the following night for Los Angeles/Edmonton. That’s more Kings than in a blackjack shoe.

Things dont really makes sense between Kings/Hawks

Hawks D is a mess but will have lots of kids coming

So something like Muzzin in a deal to Hawks would make sense if Hawks then extend Muzzin for 4-5 years

End up with Keith , Muzzin and Seabrook as vets while kids such as Forsling , Joker , Boqvist , Mitchell , Krys and Beaudin come into organization in coming years (Forsling and Joker are already on Hawks)

Joker , Mitchell and Boqvist are righties so Hawks could be looking for vet like Muzzin at LHD to put with one the kids next year and beyond

Think of Hawks going with a D like this

Keith-Joker
Muzzin-Boqvist
Forsling-Seabrook

Essentially you put a kid with a vet on each pairing

Maybe Hawks decide to move Forsling in a Muzzin deal and go with Gus-Seabrook 3rd pairing until Beaudin is NHL ready

Forsling a young LHD would fit Kings rebuild efforts and you would clear cap space moving Muzzin contract that expires after next season

Hawks 1st round pick this year could be a decent one, but I suspect if a 1st were involved Hawks would have the option to use it this year or next year and they would take the former
I dunno why but would not surprise me is Strome some how got included in some deal

The problem is that Muzzin is worth more than just Forsling and I'm almost certain you guys wouldn't want to give up your first. Plus I think Blake will toward a team looking to add some blueline help for a playoff team as he might get more value out of Muzzin. AHHH I'm so confused!

I think chicago wants to see if Stome and Debrincat can rekindle their junior success

Strome has actually been playing well so I doubt Hawks move him especially with our lack of C depth and especially not after moving Schmaltz

His +/- is -4 because of the disastrous game vs Jets that saw him , Debrincat and Kane line eaten alive

Muzzin for Forsling + 2020 1st if Hawks think they can sign Muzzin this summer longterm? Hawks will probably not be willing to trade this years 1st since it may very well be bottom 5

Early 2nd round picks have high value. Last 3 Kings drafts 2nd rd picks - Clague, JAD, Thomas their best 2nd rd selections in like forever...and they were all mid to late 2nd rd.
Supposed to be a pretty deep draft.

Would a guy like Derek Forbort be untouchable?

I actually think at his age he would be more likely target of Hawks but I assume Kings would want to hold onto him during your rebuild

I think there a couple posters here that would happily drive him to the airport. I'm not sure how upper management would feel about moving him though since they've invested a lot of time into developing him.
