what is wrong with Kopitar? He has to be injured. He seriously looked like he was 45. The only thing moving at NHL speed, was his stick a few times, stickhandling on the PP,
before making a bad or simple pass. All of his movements of: legs, upper body, agility, speed, any moderately complex moves, were 50% his norm. He has to be injured
to some degree. What is it? Iginla and Lecavalier were much younger looking when here.

Kopitar is not emotional involved or engaged. He is saying the right things, but his play is clearly showing no investment in winning hockey games.

Not a chance. Toronto can easily get a better offer from another team that has a young defenseman to offer in trade.

I think they can too, but most of the teams that can do that can't afford to give up a great young dman, either. Theoretically Carolina could move one of their youngsters for Nylander, but then one of their strengths has a large hole. Most other teams are in a similar boat where the d-man they can offer would open up a huge hole. Trouba? Pesce? One of the Philly guys? What's really out there that's available?

I have no doubt other teams have 'better' pieces, though.

Dude looks like, sounds like, plays like he hasn't slept in months, it's nutty. He wasn't even this bad when he was playing with the robotech arm.

It's what happens when Hockey players just go through the motions. For whatever reason Kopitar is content with simply playing good enough to stay on the ice.

Panarin to the Kings?

Dupont also suggests the Los Angeles Kings’ need to get younger and faster might make them a prime candidate to go hard after a player like Artemi Panarin. As he describes it, LA is a good fit “particularly because of his (Panarin’s) desire to land in a big city with a robust Russian community.”

i think we have an above avg chance of landing one of either Nylander or Panarin

but considering the amount of teams that will lineup for both players, the payout will be substantial for sure

should LA target them? or just run the course and be as conservative as possible with our assets?

Out of shape? Satisfied with last year as a bounce back career season? Not a captain? An old 31? Injured? Knows the team isn't a contender, so that investment isn't there? Just going through a not unheard of for him sort of slump? Knows he isn't going anywhere without his consent, no matter how he plays? Could be any of those things, all of those things, none of those things, some other off ice issue. Seems we've been asking these same questions about Kopitar forever. Even when the team was good. He had 6 points in the first 15 games in 15-16 too. He was healthy then as far as I can remember.

There's never a satisfactory answer. Unless a guy is physically unable to play, anything less than success/production is an excuse.

The kings really need a serviceable third line center, it's killing them all over the ice.

that is a definite issue

Kempe isn't a center and it's hurting his production
Amadio is a great AHL player and should be a career 13th man at best
Thompson should retire

Vilardi could help, but do we really want him to join this team this year?

At this point, I wouldn't mind testing Lewis at C again, he couldn't be worse than the players i mentioned, he could only be just as bad

our bottom 6 as a whole is atrocious

none of our rookies made any case whatsoever that they belong in the NHL, and this is probably the most disappointing thing about the season (and last season as well)

Kempe, Wagner, Luff, Amadio, JAD, Brodzinski, Rempal, Ladue, Walker, Brickley, MacDermid, etc

not one of them showed that they are top 9 players or top 4D ... not saying they are bad players nor that they won't become impact players, but for now...

we're 0 for 11

I would think they have a better shot at Panarin than Nylander. The Leafs have plenty of cap considerations. Other than Werenski, the Jackets are sort of set for a while. Bob probably won't be back. Not saying they'll take Quick, I think the Kings are stuck there, but Blake might be able to throw quantity over quality for Panarin. You don't trade the 1st this year for him or anything, but I would guess the options are more varied with Columbus than Toronto.

They've tried many guys too. That top 4 RHD and 3rd C have been quite difficult to solve. Then because Brown stopped scoring for a while, they had to bring in Gaborik and Lucic.

It's tough to get the right players, at the right time, in the right mix. Brown, Voynov, Richards. Too many mistakes/misses/wrong turns in too short a time for a hard cap world. They somehow managed to win with Brown and Richards in decreased roles or capacities, but like last year with Kopitar, it took a career performance by Gaborik in the 14 playoffs for that to happen.

I think we have the assets.. They might have an interest in Akil Thomas.

he also went from -23 to +6 to +10

he's 6ft 180lbs @ the age of 18

a C that shoots right

Skating
Thomas is a speedster, he can absolutely fly. He reaches that top speed in just a few strides thanks to his excellent technique and acceleration. Thomas adds strong edge work and very good agility. He is very dangerous off the rush, as he can beat defenders in a variety of ways. Whether it is with quick movements, or with changing speeds, he is able to get by his man and weave through traffic. Thomas has a low centre of gravity, which gives him good balance but could improve this even more by adding muscle in the coming years.

man, what a mistake would it be to trade away Thomas without knowing his full potential

Kovi/Kopitar/Brown
Pearson/Carter/Toffoli
Kempe/Iaffalo/Lewis
Clifford/Amadio/Luff or Wagner.

That's about the best the Kings can do, they really need someone to stabilize the third C role. It would help all over the ice.

Or drop Carter down do something it's killing the Kings.

Kovi/Kopitar/Brown
Kempe/Iaffalo/Toffoli
Pearson/Carter/Lewis
Clifford/Amadio/Luff-Wagner.

Going into today, even with the loss last night, it got easier for the Kings to make the playoffs on points%. 3rd in the Pacific would require playing at a 101 point pace in the remaining 66 games, and 96 for the 2nd wild card. The West almost doesn't want the Kings out of it, but they keep saying no, please, go without me.

Can't see that, first of all, they'd be giving up a assets and a 1st for a rental player. Making holes in their lineup .
Panarin will sign with the team willing to cough up the 9-10 M per x 8 he wants.
The Kings can't do that, even if he agreed, that' s 30 M on 3 players.

He's talented as hell but money and Russians are his top priorities, and the Rangers could give him both.

You guys remember watching the 2016 World Cup of Hockey and watching the Dean Lombardi assembled USA hockey team look like they didn't belong on the same ice as the opponents and struggled to do anything offensively? We've seen it play out with the Kings for years and it continues to this day.

The Kings have 33 goals for on the season. The next lowest total is 41 goals for by the Coyotes. Sorry this isn't coaching or a system, this is an effort issue, and since I like Doctore:
