Confirmed with Link: Keith Yandle Signs One Year Deal With Flyers ($900K W/ NTC)

What is the new culture of the team? What’s the new identity?

It’s not physicality like they were saying because only 1 is physical, it isn’t speed because AVs system doesn’t really play to that, it’s not being heavy as most of the players they’ve acquired are below average nhl players size.

These moves seem like a desperate ploy. AVs job would likely be on the hot seat if he couldn’t take a good roster to the playoffs again and I assume the same with Fletcher.

It all depends on usage. If he sits as the #7, then it's actually an ideal spot because York is playing, and if one of the lefties gets hurt, he can come in and provide mobility opposite Braun or Ristolainen. I do get everyone's apprehension about whether they'd actually do that though.

It was very nice knowing most of you.

The new culture is "BE A f***ING SOUTHIE."

It was always obvious they were going to sign a vet to compete for the 6-8 spot. The problem isn't signing an insurance policy for 6-8. It's who they are signing (a former big name player) and you know he's going to get more leeway because of it.

This organization can't help itself.

Tell me how it works ? If York makes 875 k and Yandle makes 900 k. What’s the diff ?

Um

What.

Here in the off-season, we have a spending limit. York, if I remember correctly, is not presently counting towards that limit. There is no cancellation. We just have 900k less room for a goalie now.

That’s a fair thing to want, but Keith Yandle for 900k shouldn’t be a reason those players don’t get their shot. If he stinks bury him.

You can argue that won’t happen, which I probably agree with, but I’ll save my rage for then.

This organization has a long history, and even more concerning - this immediate front office and coaching staff - of preferring bad vets to young kids.

Grant, Thompson, hagg, Braun, the list goes on and on.

Just because York should play above Yandle doesn't mean he will, better or not.

Don’t think this is too big a deal in the grand scheme of things. If they like York as much as they’ve said this could be a good insurance policy if he shows growing pains.

they could do a lot worse for a 6/7 defenseman and I would feel a lot more comfortable with Yandle as the next man up rather than Morin. Besides, all 6 defensemen we had slotted into the lineup are all not going to stay healthy.

Organizational depth is not a bad thing

Exactly what was said in the summer of 2016 when Manning was re-signed.

"depth is not a bad thing"

Manning then shit all over the ice for 65 f***ing games in both 16-17 and 17-18.

I'm not a big fan of Yandle but he's an upgrade over their last 3rd pairing/PP specialist at they got him at a fraction of the cost. As you said they obviously felt they desperately needed to change the culture of the team.
I'm not a big Yandle fan, either. But at 900k you aren't going to do better. And it's clearly another team atmosphere move.

They're taking your comment as if it would be spent on a backup defenseman not a backup goalie, which is what you meant.
