I'm so confused. To not go out and sign another defender you're relying on two of Braun, York, Zamula, and Morin to play well and there to be no injuries. Yandle allows any two of them to be out of the line-up if they aren't performing. (Yes, Yandle can block York and Zamula as well, but that's just shifting whose performance gets evaluated first during the season).

Instead of going out and signing a garbage AHL-NHL tweener for $750k, they get a guy with tons of experience who can actually contribute in a #5/6 role. Yeah, he's got problems with his game, but that's why he's a bottom pairing defensemen signing for $900k right now.

Regardless, he's a 35 year old offensive defensemen about to take games away from York. It's the same shit we always do.

I think they just needed some back up plan just in case York wasn’t the guy or struggles. If he’s good enough, he will force their hand. Same with Zamula. If he’s bad, they just stick Yandle up in the press box. I feel better with Yandle as an insurance policy instead of Morin

So it's Manny being Manny except Keith Yandle style? Thanks, I hate it. I hate him too, and I hate this signing, and I hate the Flyers

Also, I hate how every time I type Yandle it autocorrects to Handle. So henceforth it will be Handle, and I won't fix the autocorrect

Oh, God help us, Yanny Being Yanny was not a thing I wanted in my life.

Yeah, a bunch of assholes from Boston. Exactly what makes a good locker room. God bless Claude Giroux for having to deal with all the talking that's going to go on between these guys.

Just like they baselessly call it a bad locker room, they now baselessly call it a good one. It hurt itself in its own stupidity

So "we will have to wait to see them play to judge" but we are able to say locker room is one of the best in the NHL in friggin July? The brontosaur "not in the spreadsheet" bullshit is in full force in that statement

Let alone stating that it was a bad locker room. Authentic fans my ass

Hopefully it's because they're trading Braun lol then I'd be ok with this

Yeah that sounds exactly like how the Flyers operate

We saw last year how they expected young guys to take a step forward and relied heavily on that. It didn’t happen. So, the way I see it, they’re trying change that and protect against that.

it’s a minimal risk signing. There’s bigger things to get angry at. It’s not worth all the anger its getting.

Um

What.

Here in the off-season, we have a spending limit. York, if I remember correctly, is not presently counting towards that limit. There is no cancellation. We just have 900k less room for a goalie now.

Briefly:

In the offseason, the Flyers get ~8 million more cap space to play with. The flip side is that every one-way deal counts against the cap, including those of guys who played in the minors last season. Every player on a two-way contract counts against that limit at a pro-rated portion of their NHL salary based on the percentage of NHL games they were on the roster for the prior season. So Allison played in 14 games last season, so he counts as (14/58) x $925,000 or ~$223k against the off-season cap, and York counts (3/58) x $880,833 or ~$45k.
