I see this as Fletcher hedging his bets. The defense or goaltending (both ideally) needed to improve. Sanheim and Myers disappointed last year so it probably isn’t fair or safe to just give the job to York. He’ll get his chances. At least 8 dmen will probably be used. I really think the best player will play as Fletcher is clearly in win now mode

We saw last year how they expected young guys to take a step forward and relied heavily on that. It didn’t happen. So, the way I see it, they’re trying change that and protect against that.

it’s a minimal risk signing. There’s bigger things to get angry at. It’s not worth all the anger its getting.

My feeling is...it's just veteran insurance in case York looks like crap in camp. OR, of course, Fletch really likes Yandle and AV loves him, too and plays way too much.

Yandle isn't a guy you sign to improve team defense. He's one of the most heavily sheltered dmen in the league. Over 70% of his 5v5 starts were in the ozone last season.

Now the D is set and they have more money to spend on goalie & a forward.
