It seems likely that the Flyers will have their second goalie squared away in the next day or two. As for adding additional forwards or a third-pair left defenseman so as not to risk rushing Cam York, there are players out there on the UFA market who might help address certain areas of need (size, grit, supplementary scoring, speed). However, there's only so many cap dollars to go around and only so many roster spaces.

I’m not full throat into determining who is and is not a bad teammate, but there were times where clues were given out in the open. Couturier did it multiple times.

I think back to the game in Buffalo, the one they were down 3-0 and won (before they lost 6-1 to end their losing streak) where Giroux did the post game TV interview on the bench and he was asked about speaking up in the room and he said that he didn’t say a word and that it was Laughton and Braun who spoke up, and that told me that there was disconnect between Giroux and other players, some of which I presume are already gone.
I’m curious what hints you think Couturier dropped?

All one has to do is check HF if it was a good signing or not. HF hates it, then it's all good. 1yr/900K, it's not like it's coming out of your bank account. Are we still going on about Ghost a week later? move on, lol.

I mean, you could always "move on" to somewhere else..

No one is forcing you to discuss the Flyers here. There's always Facebook, Twitter, Reddit, Hockeybuzz, etc.

i hate this organization sometimes. remember the days when we'd target the top players available? i guess we only aim low now. Eichel? too risky! Tarasenko? too risky! but lets go get two shit players in Risto and Yandle. cause we know it's not risky at all to put two terrible defensive defensemen in our top 6, while simultaneously blocking our top young D prospect. so stupid.

Again, we don't have Patrick anymore. Or the cap space for a proper 3C signing.

I think there's enough out there on the rumor mill that that's in around where they're looking, whether it's 3C or 10F. Maybe it's a guy Frost could usurp but I'm not convinced they even see Frost as a center, we won't know until they get to camp. We might question the players, but they're definitely not taking chances when it comes to depth, Frost is going to have to win his spot. How arduous that will be will have to play out, he could blow shit up in camp but I think in his situation it should be to play consistent minutes as opposed to having a short leash.

He was saying stuff in post game pressers. I believe he talked about guys needing to be better prepared or being professionals more than once.

What are your thoughts on this move

I hate it.

I hate bringing in a 35 year old defensemen that needs to be sheltered to take games away from Cam York and Egor Zamula, both of whom are NHL ready.

I hate all of this talk of "leadership in the room"

I hate that he was probably only signed at the behest of Hayes.

If they were going to sign a veteran depth defensemen, I would have liked a RHD so they only played if Braun, Risto, or Ellis were injured. We now have Provorov, Sanheim, Yandle, York, Zamula, and Morin on the left side.

Thanks. There was something deeply wrong with the team last year. It will be interesting if we ever get to know what happened behind the scenes

If you look at Yandle the last three years, he was declining, then Q woke up, realized he was an aging veteran, and gave him 17 sheltered minutes a night and he had a nice rebound season. Much like Braun who was fine until injuries forced him into a top 4 role.

This is nice insurance at low cost, injuries WILL happen, at least we're not calling up Prosser or Friedman this season.
York will still get his minutes, though given his pro experience is what, 10 games? it wouldn't kill him to start at LHV, the same way it won't hurt Zamula to ge 40-50 games in before they call him up.

The Pens sent Guentzel at 22 years old to the AHL out of college, for 33 games - he blew the AHL away, forcing them to recall and play him.

Yandle is everything you rail against in defensemen. Wonder how he would look in the playoffs, in the slim chance it happens? Would he get “exposed”? A little consistency please.
Imagine making a middle six center earning $7 million a year the face of your franchise

Please say, “Sonk.”

"rushing" Cam York.

This is his Draft +3 season, FFS. This isn't like what Winnipeg did with Ville Heinola or Chicago with Henri Jokiharju. The kid plays a pro style game already and is physically capable of handling the rigors.
Heinola is still gunna be a stud tho

This forum is so negative. I've been coming here since the early 2000's and it's probably the worst it has ever been.

It's a 900k contract, Fletcher has been saying all along he was probably going to add another defenseman...I don't understand why its such an outrage, sky is falling, move. Relax.

Between Handle-Braun and Fisto on the second pair I just can't WAIT to see this new and improved team defense

I'm actually thinking they'll roll an extremely defensive 3rd pair of Yandle-Risto

The Flyers do adore trying out the worst possible combination and then sticking with it. Long team tradition. Important Flyers Hockey value.

We've already seen that being the best option isn't enough, like when Thompson usurped Frost in 2020.

too nice of a summer day outside to be angry online over a 900k contract.
