We've already seen that being the best option isn't enough, like when Thompson usurped Frost in 2020.

That was still the right determination, your, and everyone else's, issue is with the player they chose. Frost was never going to play as 4C nor should he have.

Morin's role is to be the spare guy hanging around at this point. I'd be surprised if they planned for him to be a regular player unless they need him to be.

To be fair, the point/concern is more with Yandle blocking Zamula and York - as opposed to Morin.

Because as we know, come the playoffs - those kids didn’t have enough experience to just be inserted come such a crucial junction in the year.

This organization is just stupid. There is no other word.

Cowards.

In a simulation
Sanheim has produced more ESP than Provorov the past three seasons, but hasn't got a regular chance on the PP.
He's regressed from a point production standpoint since getting 35 in 18-19. Taking out the PP Provorov and Sanheim both have 36 points over the last two seasons. Neither of them are big time offensive defenseman which is why there is some positive to getting Yandle who is still great on the PP.

Ahhh yes the arbitrary roles that a skilled guy can’t play on the fourth line.

That organizational belief that has them just pumping out kids that maximize their potential.

This isn’t meant as a shot at you, I get we may disagree - but this shit happens every year. It’s a reliable trend. Sign a has been that does nothing but block kids.

How does Chuck reconcile his endless “poor defensively” talk with this signing? That requires a superhuman amount of cognitive dissonance. Moving past that, which I can’t, the only reason Yandle would sign for $900k with an NTC (which is unheard of at this salary) is guaranteed ice time and role. Flyers can bench him, obviously, but this wasn’t your standard bargain bin contract. And Hayes would be none too happy!

As for the Authentic Fan arguments and not singing “Kumbaya,” I can’t imagine why anyone would act as gatekeepers for this team’s fandom — or smile and blindly trust. It’s been a miserable decade. Surely, we can raise our standards (besides the team) and not shame people for breathing in the vapors of educated pessimism.

The Flyers all of a sudden have a ton of options on the PP. They should go back to a more traditional setup with two point men. Yandle/Ellis on PP1 and Provorov/Risto on PP2.
Meltzer had a nice point about how the Flyers current dmen are much better at getting point shots on goal compared to the players they moved on from. I was surprised at the percentages. I doubt they go 2 d on both units though.

Rinse and repeat. Every Flyers brass off-season meeting since 1972:

“Ya know who da problem is. Candy ass Ghost. Skates around like Dorothy Hamill.” (Unload Ghost at any cost)

“Ya know who we need- dat kid in Buffalo, real sunnofabitch to play against.” (Acquire Risto at any cost)

“Da kids aren’t ready.” (Frost, York, Zamula rot… and Allison too as soon as he misses a defensive assignment)

“We need anudder vetrin for da back line” (sign Yandle)

“We need someone who will drop da mitts.” (Resign Morin)

It was less about his skill and more about his conditioning. It's not to say it was bad but he was sent back down mainly for that reason as he was getting beaten up and worn down. Same thing was going on with Farabee, he was just playing better.

He’ll be in the lineup every night as long as AV is in charge.

The iron man streak will be a great topic (distraction for the Flyers PR/media, nothing useful) in case things dont go well on the ice, just like when they came up with Gritty (as cool as he is)

I enjoy how the same usual suspects are pumping up this move as some sort of positive leadership change as if they have any clue on what the locker was and now will be. Could be toxic.

I said it before, we have hints about what the past may have been and we have no way to say what the future is going to be in the locker room. Acting so sure in this one of all topics is mighty strange.

Without even reading any of their posts you can basically guess the 3 to 4 posters will be praising this move. They'll write some blanket narrative and then make some statements if it doesn't work out like "it's only 900k! Sure it was a miss but ultimately it didn't matter". It's purely a scapegoat for an inability to correctly assess talent.

Charlie said that Yandle had more lucrative offers elsewhere but chose to come to the Flyers. He's obviously not a superstar player but he's still a big name and decent player that chose to come to the Flyers for LESS money, which is a start.
He's made over $60M in his career and had a chance to play with one of his best friends.

It's pretty easy to see why he could take less money when it pretty certain he wasn't getting $4M offers out there.

It's a pretty 'meh' signing from the Flyers' standpoint. But it is a bit weird that they've brought in two guys close to Hayes. If anyone did believe that the team needed a shift in the room, I'm not sure of the reasoning to shift it towards Hayes.

With adding Morin....and your top 2 D prospects being LHD....and Hogberg a LHD....would it not make sense to sign a RHD if you wanted another depth D?
